Pacing is still a little slow, yes, and it's not nearly as good as Resident Evil, but it's on par with Gordon and the News. I miss the Chris Slack reporter accent. |

No...And anyway, how do you explain American Wrestling? User was put on probation for: Why is EPIC the only descriptor that people use nowadays?. (3 days) |

I dont. Thats a whole lot of 'splanin ta do, and I'm not up to the task. America has alot to answer for, but our wrestling tops the list, right up there with Hiroshima, Nagasaki, American Idol, and Iraq. Okay, fine, then who DOES find a drag act funny? I thought it was a brittish cultural institution, like witty dialogue, excessive ethnocentrism, and tea. |

Ah, the Rugby players. Say no more. They're also responsible for the fake rubber breasts, yes? Seriously, though; I'm being intentionaly ignorant and steriotypical. To make fun of us americans, you see. I was never that in to mortal Kombat, myself. I always preferred Killer Instinct for my pixelated blood and gore fix, back in the day. Now, I play with cutsey nintendo characters who just knock eachother offscreen. And...its more fun. much much more fun, than all the gore in the world. |

As far as comparing it to Resident Evil goes, you guys displayed perfection very early on so you're bar has been hoisted pretty high for a new show, don't let any "not as good as RE" comments get you down, it's still solid ^_^. |

I'd say this episode has the besting production (costumes and acting etc), but wasn't as funny as the rest of them! I know lot of people in all the comments have slagged you off about the constant firing of jokes (e.g. Yahtzee or whatever he's called on his comment on News), but I liked that! I WANT MORE LAUGHS! The only thing I didn't like about them was when you tried to hard at each joke, milking them for every drop or making sure we understand it. Subtlety is key! Oh, and does anyone else see the parallels between this and the Street Fighter "Where are they now?" videos that were going around the internet a while back? It's been a while since I saw them, maybe I'm just being a bit stupid . . . Peace. P.S. I want to see more Buckfast cameos!!! |

And they're the ones lauded for being sportsmanlike? I've seen Professional Boxers do less damage.
It is rather amusing when you get a "US Americans are all right but all you Brits are Racist!" threads that come up; usually because the two main combatants are fully aware of their shallow stereotyping; and actually play to it. Now I've just got to visit the Queen for my cucumber sandwiches. (And heaven help Yahtzee with the Stereotypical Aussie; especially a Pom who's gone down under)
Streetfighter 2 had a great set of characters, good music and simplistics controls that you can pull of some frightening combos. MK/KI etc. just added some moves that you'd have to perform by borrowing the fingers of your neighbours hand to perform and the end bosses could only be beaten by racking up the Flying middle Punch, half circle with kick, strong punch, half front circle with light kick combos. The Fatalities were nice if you were in an Arcade and you really wanted to nark someone off; but unless you practiced them for hours; it was sheer luck whether they happened. And then MK3 added a run button, and then weapons (And gave Reptile the rottenest ending since Gen-An in Samurai Showdown). 'Twitch' machines like KI/MK just have legions of Smoke wannabes pulling off the same unblockable combo; StreetFighter 2(Vanilla) at least gave you the chance to win without Fireball,Fireball,Dragon Punch. Not that I have anything against cross dressing, but overtones of annoyance were seeping through my eyeballs. |

Paperboy Posts: 37 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | I have to side with sirdanrhodes - this episode wasn't that funny. An interesting premise (violent game characters constrained by a banal bureaucracy) gets bogged down by not doing anything particularly inventive with said premise. Compare with url=]http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1711287]Street Fighter: the later years.[/url] Street Fighter takes the mundane mixed with the surreal, making a funny and engaging story that plays well off of audience expectations and carefuly timed of jokes. The humour sustains itself by focusing the jokes on a specific focus - namely, that of superheroes experiencing a mid-life crisis. Mortal combat, unfortunately, didn't work the same way - The jokes spin out and seem amateurish, not following along with the premise of otherworldly creatures having to dodge a bunch of red tape. To often the talk wears down and doesn't his home the same way. Please, talk to Yahtzee - he knows how to write humor well, and I'm sure he'd be happy to lend advice to a fellow Escapist contributor, provided he's not up to his arse in headcrabs. |
