You may not like it, but the shark doesn't care. If it wants to eat you, it's going to do it. Hence his blatant "fuck you" after he gave Portal a perfect score, since it wasn't funny. He has no mercy for anyone, including himself and his beloved "smart, clever adventure games". I respect him for the fact that he hates, but he at least hates everything equally. |

Anonymous Source Posts: 5 Joined: 22 Apr 2008 | Wow, these comments are unnecessarily brutal towards SSB, I'm really surprised. Me and my friends have been into Super Smash since the N64 game, and Melee became a staple of our good times together. Brawl has recently taken that spot and we all love it dearly. The story line was amazing, those of you who complain it was too long should maybe realize that it's rather short for almost any game and just seems long because you're not used to it for the SS series. As far as those who call it a button masher, clearly you are button mashers and won't take the time to play the game for more than a few alcohol fueled minutes. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is such a fun experience to sit down and play with friends, I don't know how you can all just jump on the hate wagon train that our good Yahtzee has started rolling. Seriously, you may all hate nintendo fanboys, but you don't even know why...play the game before hating the game. Marth is from Fire Emblem. He was my best character in Melee, now replaced by Mr. Game and Watch in Brawl. Sonic and Snake were worth waiting for you impatient masses. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4937 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 | Its weird how Yahtzee can do a totally biased review, and then people will call all the people who criticize his judgment Nintendo fanboys, without realizing that well more than half of these posts are poorly spelled praise from Yahtzee fanboys. |

When did I say this before? |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 7 May 2008 | You know people without lives (Like the ones who complain about his reviews) need to remember that there is such a thing as freedom of speech and I think unless you're playing with 10 or more people that Super Smash Brothers sucks so KEEP ON DOIN WHAT YOU DO YAHTZEE!!!! |
Anonymous Source Posts: 8 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | Wow...Do you guys realize that this is the most posts on ANY of his videos? Come on now. I would think we'd have something better to do then to debase each other over something as silly as Brawl. Yahtzee doesn't like it. Big deal. Move on. There aren't many games he DOES like. I'm more of an avid SSBM player myself and find Brawl just a step backwards in comparison. Things that made Melee good were taken out to make it (and I quote) a "non-tournament game" and "more accessible for the newbies." I'm surprised that so many people are so angry at his review and the people that agree with him. I thought Brawl was going to be terrible FAR before I saw Yahtzee's review just from gameplay videos while all of my friends thought it was going to be amazing and thought I was just "hatin'" on Brawl. It's not my cup of tea, but for those of you who enjoy it, go ahead and do so and stop flaming the people who dislike it because of a personal choice. And for those of you who just wanted to hop on the band wagon, for shame. I would hope that perhaps some of us could make an opinion before someone reviewed it. |
Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | Freedom of speech is a two sided coin. People also have the right to complain about what others say. That's still speech. What isn't freedom of speech is when people STOP others from speaking what they believe. People can hate Yahtzee all they want (I thought his brawl review was hilarious and I seriously like Brawl [I'm "That Guy]) |
Anonymous Source Posts: 8 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | I'm a "that guy" too. I play more of a pro-type of Melee. That still doesn't excuse how long this thread has gone on. It's pretty ridiculous at this point. I know people have opinions on what others have to say, but we aren't even going about this in a debate sort of way. It's just arguments being flung onto more arguments. No real points are being made and it seems to me that most of the posts in here right now are just people trying to incite a flame war. Kind of like Arella17's post: "You know people without lives (Like the ones who complain about his reviews) need to remember that there is such a thing as freedom of speech and I think unless you're playing with 10 or more people that Super Smash Brothers sucks so KEEP ON DOIN WHAT YOU DO YAHTZEE!!!!" I have nothing against a good argument, but this is just sad at this point. |
Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | This is true. While everyone is entitled to say what they believe, being illogical and irrational about it isn't going to help the point being made. And those kind of comments have been made on both sides. It goes back to something I said a while ago. "You can just as Fanatically HATE a game as you can like it". The same goes for everything people talk about. Unfortunately, it is the internet that allows these people to get away with saying things they would (I certainly hope) never say to a real person, normally because it would involve getting hit immediately after, or going to jail. Plus, anything that goes over 1100 posts TWO WEEKS after it came out when it shouldn't have gone over 300 is insane. |

Well I think that qualifies you as unobservant and clearly not in any possition to comment on FPS's. Having played many, they vary greatly, from GRAW to Quake. Saying they are all the same is like saying you cannot have variations in a genre.
Whether you care to admit it or not, EA release such as vast array of different games and genres, how many they release does not affect the quality or repetition. If you seriously think you can draw a similarity between The Sims and Burnout, you clearly have not grasped what I was trying to say.
Yes halo didn't change a great amount but each new one was a genuine continuation and improvement to its predecessor. The storyline flowed and gameplay improved, but the former point being the important issue. Without any storyline SSBB is simply a rehash of previous its predecessors! That is not a step forward in the game industry, as its the same game, just with tweaked graphics and a different pad.
Yes I do think halo fans would like to see a difference. Mainly because it's not the difference that would upset fans, it's if the storyline was garbage, something Nintendo fan(boy)s tend to ignore just because it has their favorites Link or Mario in.
If something does not improve or adapt it will die out. Simple business. Look at Nintendo. They have been falling ever since the N64. Spurred on by initially good sales, after about a year, their games and consoles are seen as being the same and dated. Hence the reason buying a new Gamecube is exceptionally difficult. Also if you really think someone who has never played a game, even a sequel, has a valid opinion on it, you are clearly wrong.
Again though, there is no variation in the storyline, just a new place with Zelda. Princess goes missing, Gannon involved, fetch. If all the GTA's had the same main character and same basic storyline then maybe you could say they were too similar. But they don't. As for Gran Turismo, read carefully, it's a racing simulation. Therefore improvements are vital to how the came plays and more importantly, imitates driving. Can you really say the same over any Nintendo franchise?
.
Clearly you need to play the games made by Bungie and Rockstar that your commenting about. The essential difference is that Nintendo does not change the storyline or gameplay of their games. In contrast, Rockstar and Bungie are advancing, trying to perfect their genres, Nintendo is stuck in the past. I do not hate sequels, as long as they actually are good, and not 'more of the same'. For example the expansions to F.E.A.R. are just repetitive and not an advancement from the original. Halo had the ongoing storyline, GTA brings new plots with different characters. Not the same storyline with the same characters. The reason I loathe Nintendo is because I feel that they, or more precisely, the fanboys, are holding back the games industry from advancing and developing new games and genres as fanboys love 'more of the same'. |
Muckraker Posts: 272 Joined: 14 Jan 2008 | Wow...........32 pages of dross not worth my time to read. This goes to show that N-fanboys will do ANYTHING to be heard. No matter how many sites they are banned from for life. And yes, SSBB is 'fun' but it isnt Portal. What were they expecting, a rave reveiw from a person who had to wait a millenium before getting this game (Australian Release dates are as horrible as he says, I looked them up.) |

I'm as disappointed with the bastardization of the SSB series as any other serious gamer. SSBB isn't nearly as ground breaking as the original was, and it's even MORE over-done than Melee was. Instant K.O.s are BS, everyone knows that. Cool characters required to be unlocked sucks ass, everyone knows that. Everything you can say about SSBB is obvious, because it's practically a kids game, anyway. |

Sounds hyprocritical of me but im just trying to help those who stressed out over things like these. P.S. Sorry for the spelling. |

I think he's from Fire Emblem. I know he goes hand in hand with Roy and Ike, and I know he's in a Japanese game that hasn't hit the states (or anywhere outside of Japan as far as I'm aware) yet. Hence his little victory speech in Japanese. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 17 Mar 2008 | Marth is from Fire Emblem, a supposedly hardcore tactical RPG that really made itself known after Marth and Roy were introduced in Melee. I say 'supposedly' because I've never played the original, just Radiant Dawn, because like most games from that part of the world it never leaves the J-Pop polluted streets of Tokyo without every screaming fanboy (with his nose buried so deep into four-year-old DBZ manga you could've sworn it was a permanent Goku tatoo, of course) on the U.S. mainland calling for the blue-haired boy with the same haircut as my sister. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh, for Radiant Dawn did prove that the concept the series was derived from was indeed 'hardcore' and intuitive, and I don't really hate the Japanese and otaku(s?), even if personally I couldn't say if the lot of them shared these feelings, but now let's get to what I wanted to talk about: If I could speak on the behalf of every inbred, balding primate hiding in their cellars, flailing their Wii remotes and Nintendo-emblem bearing T-shirts like fratboys at a Halo 3 game fest, I'd apologize for being such a self-righteous ass; luckily, I'm not one of them. However, Yahtzee, I am sorry that you had to suffer what must've been a literal tome of hatemail from some people who no doubt have been on the losing side of a Tic-Tac-Toe match with a chicken at some point, when they can find out how to scratch out the lines in the dirt. |

If your not enthralled into the SSB gamedom already, then you aren't going to become enthralled with it anytime soon. I enjoy the game, and my boyfriend plays competitively online, but we agreed with Yahtzee even though he tore the game limb from limb..... in fact for me that part was enjoyable. |

Or maybe he could take a tesla coil covered in Whale semen and rape my throat with it, same result. wow, that was sudden even for me, i apologize, beg your forgiveness and finish by saying that the only thing less interesting than the results of the U.S election is watching paint dry on the acting talent of Hayden Christensen. |
