Halo Hits the Cardboard Warzone

Genius Products and B1 Games are bringing Bungie's Halo franchise to the closets of gamers everywhere in the form of a board game.

Microsoft has licensed the Halo brand for a board game, yet another extension of the franchise. Players will command the UNSC Marines and Covenant forces in family friendly "strategic battles for power."

The modular board will be re-configurable to enable fresh gameplay on a new map with every match. An included DVD will feature music from the series, as well as unseen exclusive content.

This board game is heavily focused on the Campaign mode's interactive storyline, with options for quick Heroic-level matches or lengthy Legendary battles. Head-to-head matches can be played under either Slayer or Capture-the-Flag rules.

"Halo is one of the most recognizable and successful videogame franchise of all time and boasts a tremendous worldwide presence that continues to grow," said Trevor Drinkwater, President and CEO of Genius Products. "Fans of all ages are going to love this extension of the popular brand that offers endless game play. B1 Games has created an incredibly innovative game that mirrors the hit franchise and will truly resonate with fans."

Expect the Halo Interactive Strategy Game this September at retailers nationwide.

Because we all know that boardgames based on videogame characters sell.

As a board game enthusiast, I would probably enjoy this more than the actual HALO.

I miss the days when video games had game mechanics.

WTF? What's the date today? April was ages ago, what's going on? First a new PS2 is being released (I had to read the title for that 3 times) and now this! Can't quite figure out wether or not they've turned Halo:CE or Halo Wars into a bored game, either way, I don't like it!

Sigh, and I thought Sonic and Mario were whored out too hardcore.

Congratulations you bastards, you blew it all up. Halo Risk, yeah, tt would have been acceptable. But some wacked on new game all of it's own? Wasn't Haloclix enough?

Uhm...well. Ok then.

Even as a massive Halo fan, I can't say I'll be getting it. Destroying a Scarab won't exactly be the same when it's a half-inch across and made of plastic.

Personally, I think this is just another attempt to milk the last few pennies from the fanboy's pockets... I have played Risk and I have played Axis & Allies, these games are classics and I don't see how anything can really compete with them.

Every week Master Chief becomes a more and more credible rival to Mario...

Although I can't see a learn to spell with Sargeant Johnson coming out any time soon (live in hope).

I might actually get this, if it's orgianol, and not just a risk rip-off.

I actually still have that Pac-Man board game. Picked it up at a car boot sale along with the Mario one.

Well this is pitiful. 3 games in and the series is already being milked. Mario at least had much more games before he was milked (and still being milked).

I don't know how this got past the idea board, but even I hope it wont be half-assed for some reason.

There is Mario PEZ and gum. A board game isn't that bad.
