I recall this kid, who immigrated from africa (or is it emigrated?)When in america and applying for financial aid for college, and it had the part that asked about 'race', he put down 'african american'. (same goes for the college he was applying to) That said. |

The root comes from that europeans/americans feel guilty towards africans, since we basicly caused their hideous problems. I highly doubt the people working on the game actively tried to be offensive, the development process probably went something like: Hey! Lets set it in Africa! And there can be lots of scary Africans to kill! |

I think the reason that America has those types of labels on people is because (from my knowledge) America was built on immigrants. We got germans in Texas, Spainards in the south, Canadians in the north, british in the north east (i think) and plenty of others that i'm sure would give us dozens of "cultural labels" like "German-American" or "British American" The point being, to my knowlege no other country has such a diverse culture around the world. If i moved to Britain would i consider myself an American-British? No, i'd either be an American or British. |

FOX News doesn't 'bash liberals'; it sets up a strawman they call a liberal and then they bash that. What FOX News "calls them" on has about as much to do with what liberals actually believe as their discussion of _Mass Effect_ had to do with what was actually in the game. |

With re5 being developed in japan and most black japanese originating from south east asia calling them afro americans would be wrong on two accounts. America =/= the world. |

The problem is you don't see "German-American" or "Russian-American" on those labels. You're either Asian, Hispanic, Latino, African American, Indian or White/Caucasian. Of course, I still find it funny how the only minorities that seems to have trouble making it in America are Hispanic/Latino and African American, despite the fact that the modern role-model for young teens are black rappers or black athletes, and yet clearly whitey is racist and doesn't want minorities cluttering up their businesses and colleges. Or maybe it's a problem with the culture that the minorities have adapted? Nah, can't be it, as that's just taking responsibility for yourself, and who wants that? |

I don't know what you're trying to say here.
There's also plenty of trouble "making it" among Cajuns, Scotch-Irish Appalachians, and American Indians. I also don't think white West Virgina coal miners have "made it" yet.
Actually, aren't Italian-American gangsters a role-model for most Hispanic/Latino and African American? Every episode of _Cribs_ I see looks like an homage to the career of Al Pacino. Or you know--remember that athletes like Marciano and John L. Sullivan were role models to white minorities in America, so, I don't see what connection you're trying to make there.
The problem is that just when Hispanic/Latino and African American gangs started controlling the cities is when waves of political reform swept America. Jews, Irish, Italians--all these groups were as heavily involved in gangsterism before they "made it" as Hispanic/Latino and African American are today. The difference is you just can't have a Tammany Hall machine these days so all that drug money that goes to buying French Champagne and spinning hubcaps can't go to buying politicians and judges unlike that money from Prohibition alcohol. Not to mention the lesser stigma attached to the drug minorities used to sell--alcohol--as opposed to narcotics. Heck, modern gangs can hardly even run a Policy/Numbers racket with all the legal lotteries. You might want to read Mario Puzo's fictionalization of this change in _The Godfather_ or if you want it right from the horse's mouth--the last great boss of Tammany Hall--you can pick up _Plunkitt of Tammany Hall_ for the real scoop on how white minorities made it out of the ghetto. Or for whites that aren't "making it" go watch _American Hollow_. Also consider that Hispanic/Latino and African American came to dominate cities right when the power of unions was declining and manufacturing was moving out of the cities. Can you really imagine a leader like Michael J. Quill arising in the conditions Hispanic/Latino and African American find themselves in as far as the state of American labor? I mean, most white minorities haven't "made it" yet--there's only been one President of the USA that was a Catholic, only one who was from any of the white minorities of Irish/Italian/Polish/Greek/etc., who came from a family that made its money from bootlegging. And they shot his ass dead. |

Would have been a pretty epic post if not for that last sentence. Anyway, I find it hard to believe that Capcom didn't expect any reaction from America: a huge market share. I don't buy the complete ignorance argument but I am not standing against the game. The fact that it may be possible to cross this boundary might actually be a milestone for us. Here's hoping. :) |

Paperboy Posts: 14 Joined: 18 Aug 2008 | I don't understand why the game is being considered racist. The game is set in Africa. Wouldn't it be more racist to not include African people in the title? |

Apparently that only count if you're not shooting at them. |
