We've had our trusty forums for over a year now, and as our community has grown, so have our guidelines for posting!
Interested in signing up? Go here. Standard info, and if you've used the WarCry network in the past, you can log in with that username and password, since we're one big happy family. After that, you're good to hop into and start any number of great discussions.
As far as actual posting goes, we keep things a bit laid back around here, and as such, I'm loathe to call the following rules; they're guidelines. We are all board warriors of action; rules lawyering does not become us. So, I'll keep it short and easy for everyone:
Grammar and spelling. Everyone who moderates the boards is an editor. Bad spelling and improper grammar physically hurts us, precious. Respect yourself and others; take the time to check your spelling and how your post is worded. Also, one exclamation point or question mark is enough at the end of a sentence.
Quoting. Don't break up a person's post into individual sentences and clauses. It clutters up the page and makes it harder for other users to enjoy the forums. If you wish to respond to a particularly lengthy post, just quote the first paragraph for reference and address the entire post.
Mod sass. When the moderators put on their referee's shirts, anything they say is non-negotiable. If you disagree with their conduct, send them a private message.
Flaming and trolling. Let's keep things civil, here. Responding to someone's post just to attack him is unacceptable.
Rants. We're a content-heavy site. You probably feel strongly about things. It's OK to post your thoughts about the issues that affect you, but ranting about how EA ran over your puppy without backing it up isn't how we work here.
Original posts. If you're starting a thread, make sure your first post seeds the thread with something to discuss. If you want to talk about a game, give us some background or post a mini-review. When you start a thread, ask yourself why other people should care.
Polls. We're now yellow carding and one-day banning people for making stupid polls. A "stupid poll" is pretty much anything where the choices are slanted or myopic, or otherwise deemed stupid by your friendly neighborhood moderator staff. Be warned.
Act like an adult, and I don't swing the banstick. We're intelligent, responsible people, all of us. We know how to treat one another, and we know how to disagree respectfully without things turning nasty. This is our lawn, we invite you to play here, but be polite and follow our rules or find somewhere else to hang.
Also, there are no signatures on purpose. Don't add your own.
Getting to Know Your Moderators
We have a team of three moderators. They'll be your go-to guys regarding new forum ideas and issues as they pop up. They are:
Jordan "Ice-Nine" Deam - We call him the Bear Trap. You don't want to find out why. He is heading up the moderator team.
wilsonscrazybed - He's the first of the Red Guard, a community-based Neighborhood Watch.
Russ "Russ Pitts" Pitts - Russ is above all this, but is more than capable of helping out on the moderation front.
Julianne "Andraste" Greer - Julianne is in charge of everything here. She is to be loved and feared.
Jason "Virgil" Smith - Jason is the programmer who built the forums. He has godlike powers here.
Jeff "Spinwhiz" Palumbo - Jeff does marketing. It's in his best interest to not have the forums be stupid.
... and more. Chances are if they have a gold name, they have moderator powers.
Other Fun Stuff
Yellow card/red card. This is the mods' fun way of giving out warnings and bans. Like in soccer, a yellow card is a stern warning, not to be taken lightly. A red card means the user was banned for the post he made.
Titles. All of the post count-based titles have been discovered. Will we add more? Who knows? Special titles are awarded for special circumstances - keep an eye out for contests.
Forum Markup. You can find documentation on the tags our forums support here.
Depends what you define as cursing. I know there are some obvious words (commonly referred to as the "F" word and such) but where do you guys draw the line at excessive language? Sure, most people can use their better judgment and common sense to work out what words to omit or change and such, but what do you guys (el moddos) define as "bad language?"

Really, do you need a definition of profanity? I think we all know what it is when we hear it. It's more about how you use it, than what you use in this case. I think as long as you aren't using profanity to insult people, or in a way that makes these forums seem less mature you should be fine.

You love this job don't you. Wait, is this even a job? Do you get payed for this?

Don't use the 'C' word. Even if it means happy-fun-time-sparkly-cake it's just a terrible blunt sounding word. I think it should be a rule (outside of Yahtzee) say the 'C' word and god kills you.
HDRob Inglis: Pulitzer Laurette is another rank
Achieved by yours truely. I don't know weather to be happy or rethink my entire life?
I would like to request personally that i'm tired of the bullying of MGG from everyone so I thought" Hey, why don't I just ask Joe to ban him, lock his threads, and stop the nonsense", so could you do that because were all adults, not jock's bullying a anoying nerd.
From,
A concerned viewer.
P.S. This thread wasen't locked and I figured I could reach you here.
Ah, yes. Poor Moogly Googly Great is Equal to Reviews. He makes illegible posts, rambles on incoherently, and then flips out with the almighty power of CAPS LOCK whenever someone has any criticism. Either that or he blatantly ignores it. So why is he seen as the victim? He's already said that English is his first language, so it's not a matter of a bunch of people picking on someone who's trying to learn a language.
And the whole "virgins" fiasco is still fresh in people's heads.
idk, but joe cool, its not like we really are insulting him. At this point the thread is just people having fun wiht a metaphor. also he has insulted everyone on this forum, so its not like hes blameless here.
I'm kind of confused with the "no cursing or ranting rule." It isn't that I don't get it, it's just that you employ a person named Ben Croshaw who has been known to curse and go on rants from time to time...
Also, I am not disagreeing with the moderators, I'm just asking a question. How can you allow Yahtzee to speak in such a manner when you tell everyone in the forums not to? Not saying it's bad but it just seems a little contradictory. P.S.I'm not being disagreeable, please don't ban me.

First off, they're not rules. They're guidelines.
Second, when did anyone say you couldn't curse? The basic precept around here is "don't be an idiot." How you achieve that is entirely up to you.

Ok. You know, stupidity kills more people than evil. lol. it's true
Almightyjoe: i have seen the title 'gone gonzo' around somewhere,
Yours truely
Easykill: And I think PurpleRain should just get a special title- he's showing all of us up in geekiness.
I like to call it knowledge of Pop Culture not geekiness. Some of Yahtzee's title's should be used: 'Charismatic Stalion' 'Callipigean superman' or that new one.

Nope. PurpleRain is a geek. But in a good way. Snake is not gay!
