My impression is that it depends upon who you are talking to. I basically assumed that they had any of the particular weapons they can acquire, but are just thrown into some place and told to fight.
Many seem to believe that MC would be given as much time as he wanted to prepare to completely blast Samus, her suit, her undergarments, her ship, her pet, and the very memory of her out of existence or that he has some gun that apparently he does or doesn't.

As for the weapons, again, you are way off. Master Chief's sniper rifle is a Barret M82A1. It is indeed 14.5mm. Also known as a 50 Caliber.

*Extremely pedantic* 14.5mm rounds aren't the same as .50 calibre. 14.5mm rounds are considerably bigger and heavier than .50, and are somewhere in that region between machine gun and autocannon. The Russian army used similar rounds in their heaviest machine guns, and while you can just about carry an M2HB around (if you're exceptionally strong, unencumbered and you're carrying it without the tripod; good luck firing it as well without murdering yourself), a loaded 14.5mm machine gun is considerably more difficult, weighing somewhere in the region of my own mass.

The way I viewed it is that MC John (yeah, took that in a new direction) is given his pick of the best weapons he can carry, Samus is fully upgraded such as at the end of a game.
They are then simply dropped into the Roman Colleseum (Spelled properly?) and told to kill that other thingy. Commence hatred.

Also, I think Duke VS Doom would be super sweet.

I came to a realisation while reading a hilarious thread over Space Marine vs Master Chief. These comparisons are impossible (not saying no one else knows that but hang on) because they need you to incorporate two different science fiction suspension of real-world physics rules systems. These systems aren't even consistent ANYWAY, so good luck being objective. For example, the MC can survive entering the earth's atmosphere and crash-landing to ground but dies to standard weapons fire. What?
Another big problem, as you can see from the example, is that there's often a difference between the fluff character and the game character. The first is always impossibly cooler than the second.
This is a long-winded way of me saying I haven't played a Metroid game since the original so I can't say either way.

To simply put it, Samus would win such because she has a weapon built in her Power Suit. Master Chef has to find a weapon first.

Hmmm. I reckon they could make a Metriod and Halo crossover since both worlds are like. Though they should use the Spartan chick in DOA4 in the crossover, 2 females are better than one :). Like Haloid.

...hm... as cool as master chief is, I would have to say samus.

sure M. Chief COULD use a sniper rifle and mines at a 2 kilometer range, but if they get thrown into an arena then technologically speaking, this would be like comparing wolverine and hulk. no mater how cool wolverine is, he wouldn't be able to do much against hulk.

BUT, going completely off topic now, I would like to see THIS fight: Bruce willis vs Chuck norris! THERE you definitively got a "clash of the titans".
