Nope, I'm sorry for quoting this but it's still just, "Use gun on man." especially the way you seem to play snipers. I usually play some sort of assault class and when a sniper kills me, I just go sniper and kill them my next life, I don't see the skill in that; especially if they can't stop me from sniping them, and they usually don't. So I see people who play snipers most of the time as people who couldn't win playing medium to close range and then decided that if they played long range would minimize the risk of getting owned and maximize their enemies weakness. Which anybody can do. And as for the rocket launcher, didn't you play quake at all? My favorite weapon is any sort of railgun, Red Faction had it perfect(oh so many modders ruined by that gun) Second favorite would have to be a nice accurate rifle or just a damn sturdy handgun like from Stalker. |

Me three on this. I get an inordinate amount of pleasure from pistol-sniping in particular. |

You say you hate snipers and then go on to say that RF railgun is your favourite gun? My favourite weapon has to be the shotgun, especially Red Factions. What really annoys me is how most games seem to potray shotguns as needing to be right next to your enemy to be effective. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 390 Joined: 22 Feb 2008 | Any rifle is the obvious choice w/ lase scope and grenade launcher( maybe scilencer ) With this in mind I would also like to say customizable ammo is good because ya never know what you run into. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 730 Joined: 9 Jan 2008 | If a game has it, M1911 A1. The look of the gun is so pleasing and being a 45 cal, it lacks enough kick to not keep a relatively steady aim. That or the P90, I love the fast firing rate; with just a short burst you've taken care of your enemy (dependant on how realistic the game is). I also love the sniper rifle class, not knowing much about the weapons themselves all I know is the usually 50-60 cal shots (Desert Eagle standards) deliver quite a punch, in most games being a one hit sanction anywhere on the body. Very useful on some maps. All time favourite on every game is the AK47 kalashnikov rifle. Developed in 1947 by Mr. Kalashnikov, when injured and left to his own devices, has proven that some weapons can be almost perfect from the beginning. There has been little need for any modification or adaptation to the design itself. The reliability and simplicity of this weapon is nothing less than extremely pleasing. Its sheer power is astonishing but due to fluctuations of the barrel it has a low accuracy. So I would say use from mid short to mid range. That's convenient, considering most of the online games I play don't have massive maps. xD |

Sniping people with a shotgun blast to the face was brilliant. Blowing some poor Korean to bits off the edge of a cliff never gave me more satisfaction. The Team Fortress 2 weapons are also brilliantly designed - a grenade launcher that depends on your skill with angles and distance, a flamethrower, a sniper rifle that charges up the longer you're zoomed, a needlegun and a motherfucking baseball bat. |

Paperboy Posts: 36 Joined: 23 Feb 2008 | Either the railgun from Quake III Arena or... The rench from Bioshock. Smacking the gick out of a Big Daddy mere seconds away from a healing station was the most two hours of fun ever. |

Oh, and almost every weapon from TRON 2.0, especially the Disc Primit (with Primit charge, Megahurtz and Power Block of course) and the Power Glove, since the other weapons are just "digitised" versions of usual weapons. |

Yeah, I hate snipers, I never stood still with a railgun, I liked it, because once you got good with it, you could take out anybody with any weapon if only you were accurate enough make that shot count if it was three feet or fifty feet. It only had like 2X zoom compared to the sniper rifle in that game that had 12X. I used the Shotgun and Assault rifle a lot, but nothing beats the stopping power of the rail gun, that's why I like it, that and people can't take cover behind walls and camp with det packs or HMG. |

Muckraker Posts: 313 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | Sniper Rifle. Took 2 down with my sniper rifle from afar, then a headshot in close quarters in a small house. Had to shut the door as I saw someone coming from outside when I was under fire of someone in the damn house. He had a friggin' MG, I had 2 sniper bullets left. Then I ran out of bullets. Switched to my pistol, got another one down in the sewers of the map. Last one was easy though, since I stole the sewer guy his MG. Right after that, 3 people asked me to join their clan. Good times alright. But anyhoo. Sniper Rifle if it's capable of hurting people enough and the game isn't ADHD-paced (I'm looking at you, UT) |
Paperboy Posts: 24 Joined: 29 Mar 2008 | I'm with swenglish on this one, there is no greater feeling then taking a Colt .45 and seeing someone's head explode with that perfectly placed shot while he is spraying around you with a MG . Its also a lot more satisfying to sneak up behind snipers and double tap them close range. |
Muckraker Posts: 238 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | I couldn't name one type of weapon I like above all else, really. so here's a few broken down by game: Half-life: Shotgun Generally, I go with whatever feels really satisfying to use. |
BANNED Posts: 317 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 | Sniper Rifle but only when it is a real challenge. Being the god in the high places, the hand of judgement... so, so beautiful, the art in tracking, marking and slowly and calmly pulling back that trigger, feeling the kick of the controller, and the little digital life snuff out... Its good when the people you are playing against are competent anti-sniper players, and you need to be a dedicated part of a team, the elected sniper, the trusted unseen support... creeping into position, lining up the shot, making turrets into a kill zone, turning open ground into a heart thumping terror, not camping, but being in an unknown location, those little people running about, spinning looking for any sign of you, then, the body slumping as the perfect headshot cracks their skull... Sniping is an art-form, and when you can take on people close up unscoped, just to aggravate them when they finally get their targeted ass and brutish shotgun up close... pure bliss. Halo, COD, TF(2), HL, Resistance (single player sniping is surprisingly fun), even UT, you just have to be sneaky and a good shot i love them all... its beauty... |

In Team Fortress Classic (that's the one running on top of HL1), medics had a medikit weapon that they could use to heal allies and spread disease to enemies (a communicable damage-over-time effect). Half-Life 1 use the "(player name) (weapon icon) (player name)" format for displaying kills. You'd see like "Alice [sniper rifle] Bob" or "Alice [poison icon] Bob" when a player died. The medikit also did a few token points of damage when you hit someone with it. ... Thereby making it possible to get "Alice [medikit] Bob." There's just something wonderful about beating a guy to death with a plastic lunchbox. -- Alex |
Beat Writer Posts: 204 Joined: 20 Feb 2008 | OK, while sniper rifles and shotguns are great, if I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to face, and I have to pick one weapon, I'll grab an assault rifle. Assault rifles are reliable and effective at a variety of ranges. You can mow down weak enemies or keep your fire focused to bring down a single tough one. And they often come with fun extras - grenade launchers, scopes, chainsaws. Sniper rifle is second place. I'm a devious bastard who will never let my enemy get a shot off at me if I can help it. Also, there's nothing stopping you from using a sniper rifle at point-blank range if some guy ambushes you. |

Muckraker Posts: 256 Joined: 24 Feb 2008 | Generally, I like pistols and sniper rifles (when playing against the AI). But if I were to get into an actual firefight against human players, I prefer to know I have an assault rifle with me. And let me make another thing clear, I don't camp when I'm sniping (unless I'm shooting at enemy snipers or my team is pinned down and needs help). I actually run around the map until I see a visible target, zoom in real quick, then shoot. That's why I love call of CoD4...I can carry a P90 and a semi-auto sniper rifle together at the same time. |
