Gone Gonzo Posts: 4207 Joined: 2 Dec 2007 | Nid rush!!! So the tyrinids aren't coming to DoW1?! But they're makeing a DoW 2 just as they're making another expansion pack? At least we get the Dark Eldar. Torture, pain, more torture, pirates, torture and slaves. What more do you want? |

Pure grey knight army bitch! |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 706 Joined: 19 Dec 2007 | Not just pure Grey Knights, a pure Daemonhunters army would be nice. Acutally, a pure Inquisition army would be excellent. |

As far as I know, THQ and Relic have only announced Soulstorm for this year and I'd be a little surprised if they were able to do two games for Dawn of War in one year without seriously hashing one up. I am looking forward to Soulstorm, mainly for the additional units that the other races get, but Battle Sisters will also be pretty cool. There is already a Tyranid Mod in development for Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and it can be found here http://mods.moddb.com/5405/tyranid-mod/
I do but wasn't able to download that PDF, mainly because it was leaked/stolen or whatever and breeches GWs legal rights because they didn't release it first. Personally, I don't think the 4th edition rules need that much of an overhaul, just a few refinements such as firing rapid-fire weapons and charging. Anyway, no, bad people for linking it and downloading it, bad. P.M. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 55 Joined: 1 Dec 2007 | Soulstrom is being made by different developers to the rest of DoW1, so it's certainly possible that Relic are working on DoW2 at the same time. Relic have said repeatedly that 'Nids wouldn't be in Dow, because their requisition gathering isn't compatible with the engine and core system of the game. If I put on my Speculation Hat, I'd say that means that a) they've thought about putting Tyranids in, b) they've thought of a way to make them very different, and c) they're making a new engine to cope. of course, (c) could be wrong, and it might mean d) there'll never be any Great Devourer action. There's a lot of people hankering for Inquisition armies, but I doubt it would happen. I'm surprised they even made DE, to be honest. These armies are nowhere near as popular as the "mainstream" one (SM, orks, Eldar, Chaos). Plus, once you get away from Witchhunters /sisters of Battle, the inquisition armies aren't really "pure" - the Alien Hunters basically just co-opt regular space marines and give them a fresh lick of paint and a fancy boltgun, and the Daemon Hunters bring a few Grey Knights with 'em. It's only recently that the Grey Knights have been playable as an entire chapter on the table top, rather than a small unit of elite allies, and I prefer it to remain that way. I find little reason for the Ordos Malleus to bring a whole army of GK to fight with the utterly psyker-free Tau, for example. If they want to bring in special rules, they could do a Comman & Conquer Generals style thing, and bring in specialisations for having Space Wolves, Blood Angels, White Scars etc, Purely Khornate armies , blah blah blah. |

Er...no. Where did you hear that? Relic and THQ are the only companies who are licensed to produce 40k games. The unit voices are pretty cool, but they could add a few more. For example, if you're marines fighting guard then all the marines say is "The enemy approach" and other such things. That seems a little general to me. Personally, I don't think we need to see any Inquisition armies in DoW. The Inquisition is all about being behind the scenes, combating heretics, mutants and witches in a very clandestine manner. They don't run around bellowing oaths and toting chainswords on the front lines of major war zones, it's not their job. Having Inquisition troops, such as Deathwatch, Grey Knights and Battle Sisters as Allies, like the squad of Grey Knights that the marines get, is a far better way of doing it. Battle Sisters are kind of exempt from this though as they're not strictly Inquisition troops. They're actually the Ecclesiarchy's elite troops, the Ordo Hereticus can just call on them to help out if they're needed. P.M. |

It's really fun, and the daemonhunters are the inquisition with all their inquisitiony stuff. In fact, I'm gonna go play it right now. http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/mods/dawnofwardarkcrusade/mod/category965.html |

Well since downloading isn't illegal (uploading is), it isn't a product yet as its a WIP and as I will buy it when it comes out anyway it doesn't bother me any. I see your point, but i really can't hurt their sales much as only a small percentage of their customer base see a version of the book with no pics and no fluff. But yes it looks just like a tidying up of 4th. Looking forward to that and the up-coming Planetstrike expansion that is rumoured to be on its way, but I'll stop now as I'm rather off-topic. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3549 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | Grey Knights... I can't say for certain what their plans are, but my bets are they won't be in with the Space Marines this time around. I'm just guessing here, but what I figure GW/THQ are going to do is start with four armies like DoW1. Nids are confirmed (yay!), Space Marines are a given, and Orks are also confirmed. I'd bet on Eldar as the fourth again, because otherwise it is three evil vs one good. Other possibilities would be Tau and Imperial Guard since both are already modeled for DoW1, but don't count on Sisters of Battle for a launch race. Too similar to Marines. My HOPES are that they actually make differences between the factions. Ie, Space Wolves having their wolf scouts and a Leman Russ, Blood Angels having their wicked mod of the Predator, and the DA Deathwing. As to Apone's question. I've played some 40K tabletop, but not much. I got into 40K for the fun of building and converting the miniatures, but I suck at painting and don't have the patience for it. I have around $12,000 in GW miniatures, 75-80% of it is 40K (95% OF the 40K is custom conversions). All in all, I have one painted Rhino and a 10-man squad of custom Iron Warriors. |

The guard could be deemed heretical, which happens alot
1) The trailer for DoW2 is fake, the footage is from Warhammer: Squad assault |
Copy Clerk Posts: 118 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 |
It's not even from Squad Command, it's just some footage from somewhere, and no it's not from Glory in Death for the N-Gage. Good point about the game not coming out for a while.
Not really, I agree with Hellspawn. If the guard are doing anything they shouldn't be then the Astartes can be called in to deal with it, but only in extreme circumstances, such as a military coup or some such. It has been known to happen so it would be nice to have those extra little sound bites. P.M. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 515 Joined: 20 Sep 2007 | So, "death to the heretics!" would be better? ^^ I thought The Guard was even more fanatic than the Marines. : P |
Copy Clerk Posts: 118 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 |
Heh, yeh, that would be a good one. The guard aren't that fanatical, you gotta remember they're pretty much conscripts. Compared to marines they're just civilians, marines are literally the best of the best, bred for war. P.M. |

I have been led to believe - by more than just the bogus trailer on youTube - that DoW2 IS on the way. Also, to expect it around the end of 2008. From what I've been told, 'Nids were completely left out of DoW because the engine just wouldn't do justice to what they should be. This I very much believe since the engine didn't do justice to ANY of the races. I've been told that Tyranids are the focus of DoW2 because of their absence in DoW1. I'm not going to argue with anyone whether or not they are doing DoW2. I've been told they are, and I've been told a rough release date, but until the box hits the shelf it is moot since games that have been given the green light still can end up in developmental hell... Duke Nukem Forever ring a bell? But I'm still hopeful DoW2 does release this year. As to other comments made above... Re: IG vs Marines. By GW's fiction, almost every human army (good and evil) uses the IG. The Ordo Maleus, Hereticus, and Xenos have IG troops, as do the Space Marines and the Chaos Marines. Hell, IG spends lots of time fighting other IG. |

Download the Dark Crusade mod Inquisition:Daemonhunt. Your army is Ordo Malleus but Grey Knight stuff is the top tier. You get Tactical Squads, Terminator Squads, Both types of Dreadnoughts, and both types of Land Raiders. http://dawnofwar.filefront.com/file/Inquisition_Daemonhunt_Mod;80262 |

Dunno how you found the demo so fun. It's 3 levels of Dark Eldar. To me that's not a good demo. I'd have preferred two levels and say 1 skirmish map, with Sisters and Dark Eldar as the playable races. I'm just waiting for the full game. P.M. |

The Warriors seemed strangely solid, too. While my waves of troops spent most of their time fighting off tank after Landspeeder after tank in the entrance to the enemy's western base (I wanted to see how useful the Dark Eldar were in a rush scenario), I have no doubt that, had I chosen to make them run past, they could have easily taken down the buildings and ignored the vehicles trying to shoot at them. |

No they fight all the time. Space marines even fight Space marines sometimes (the main reason for this is because Space Marines are very popular so GW just let them play againts each other) Some people have made good arguments for not having a full inquisition army but I would still like one evn if it dosn't fit in to the story line. I hope they fix the Balance issues in Soulstorm and DoW2. |

May be old news to y'all but I just found out two things that leave me wishing time would speed the frak up.
First, Dawn of War: Soulstorm
Finally another two races I can use to stomp my friends into pixelated red stains on the battlefield. This time it is Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle. Still didn't get the one race I've been waiting for, but that comes later... This time they promise a nice lengthy campaign, and most of the pre-existing races receive air units this time around. Again, for people like me who live under a rock and didn't know this was coming out, expect it sometime in march.
The one that really has me chomping at the bit is Dawn of War II coming out between Halloween and Xmas. All I can say about DoW2...
