I currently own an Xbox 360 and i have come to the conclusion that Too Human, Fable 2, and Halo Wars aren't enough great games to play in 2008.

So i have made the decision to buy another console, the problem is... i cant decide which to get -_-.

So i have about $550, and i think this decision has really come down to the games on each system

For the wii, i am obviously looking forward to Brawl, and i also want to play SMG and other past games like Zelda, Metroid and Super Paper Mario... i am also looking forward to Mario Kart wii

For the PS3, resistance 2 looks amazing, and i think that MGS 4 and Little Big Planet will also be very good, i want to plat Umcharted and R&C also.

please help me out... i do not want to regret my decision and wish i could have bought the other system instead

some things:
-i do not care if the graphics on the PS3 are much better than the wii
-i do not care about ANY multiplatform games, i will most likely buy those games for my 360
-i DO care about downloadable content
- i DO care about online play, i do not know much about either system's online playability please fill me in.

this mostly comes down to a fun factor so i really dont care about most technical stuff

please feel free to leave any comments and i greatly apprecitate the help

***also i do not want this to turn into a console war, so if you are thinking about trolling, just. leave.

i think if it were me i'd buy the wii because of the diversity. i own a 360 myself and the ps3 & 360 are too similar in titles to just buy ps3. yeah you have "metal gear solid 4" coming out. but you honestly think that they won't eventually put that bad boy on 360? (i hope so)
but really... atleast with the wii you can download all the old games nintendo had to offer in the past, if you were a fan. and if your not really too impressed with the "wiimote" like me, then you can always purchase the "classic" controller
"no more heroes" looks very impressive, that would be the selling point for me in its self...
but i'm a fan of cell graphics... i like the style.

The online play on the PS3 is probably more developed than the Wii's. PSN has old psone games for sale and you can use them on your PSP if you are so inclined. Seriously I would say to get both, if I had the money I would probably grab a Wii even though most of the games do not appeal to me. I already have a 360 and a PS3 so my main concern would be where the hell to plug the thing in! :)

Yeah buy a PS3. Then you can play Orange Box, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, and CoD 4. Oh, wait.

Me and my wife own both a PS3 and a Wii, and both are wonderful, great machines and there is not a single game that exists for the 360 and not the PS3 that we miss.
PS3 and 360 have more compatible games though, so I will suggest a Wii just so you get the biggest possible game library.
(Not counting the "old", mega-awesome PS3s that have complete backwards compatability. None of that so-called backwards compatability Bullshit that Microsoft lies is actually part of the 360, but complete and really great play of both PSX and PS2 games)

Here's my recommendation; make a list of the games you want to play. Look over the title catalogs for the two consoles and make tick-marks next to each title showing which console has it. (Don't forget the downloadable/VC lists and/or back-compatability.) Buy the console with the most tick-marks.

Anybody advocating for one platform over the other by pointing to hardware or middleware is forgetting that individual tastes vary. What rocks for me may not rock for you, so I'm not going to say which way I would lean.

Caveat: there are two hardware factors to consider that I can think of... if you're looking for a Blu-ray player (then the PS3 becomes the obvious choice) or are really interested in exploring motion controls (which are implemented far better on the Wii than the PS3). Outside of that, though, in my opinion it's preference for titles that should drive the selection of platform.

Nintendo Wii, definitely. The PS3 will definitely be releasing some big titles this year, but my policy is don't buy a system on the promise of specific games. Who's to say MGS 4 isn't going to be a flaming crapfest? That's a very low possibility, but don't celebrate until the fat lady sings.

Now the Wii just has an incredible potential filled with plenty of games that take full advantage of it. If you're a fan of franchises, it's definitely the way to go. Not only do you have the present big games, you also have the virtual console classics for some one stop gaming both past and present. Also, there's some great games that aren't from Nintendo on the system! Don't believe me? Buy Zack and Wiki. It'll help you realize that people are starting to get how to develop for the Wii.

If you want a system that will grow and has far more potential to produce surprises, buy a Wii.

I say buy whichever you can afford hombre. They've both got the goods when it comes to games and functionality. If you're lookin' for some good shootin' times get a PS3, I still dork out on VCTF for Unreal Tourny 3. However with the large amount of kick awesome games for the Wii (Metorid, Mario, SSB) it also holds it own in the decision. It's really about how much cash you'd like to spend.

Buy both. The Wii is not your very hardcore machine, but it has good hits, and is a better platform for a game like Okami, for example.
PS3 is more for hardcore gaming, and called to have many hits.

I say the Wii. Most of the games on there look like fun. Mario Galaxy and the Res Evil games could be good. If you want tech and accessing the internet on something other then a computer, go with the PS3.

Both machines are equally great for gaming. I own a PS3 at the moment but im thinking of getting a Wii aswell just for games like Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart etc.. I would say buy a Wii now and buy a PS3 when the games you want (like MGS4) are released so you won't just have a PS3 their collecting dust. Whilst the Wii already has your Super Paper Mario and Zelda titles, so the time should just fly by until Resistance 2 and MGS4 are available. Not to meantion the price of the PS3...

I'd say Wii. Just because the online is... sub-par, doesn't mean it inferior to the PS3. While the PS3 promises hits, the Wii already has some. And with Brawl and Mario Kart on the way, I'd be playing that for one hell of a long time.

I think the PS3 has it its peak, there will be more good games, but there arent any of those huge titles just waiting to come out. The wii has worse games at the moment, but a lot of really great games are coming out soon.

With mario cart and brawl the wii might finally have some games to play but as far as res evil it was just an awful game to play on the wii in my opinion. and the zapper is pathetic its easier to beat the games without it cause its impossible to aim.
and with titles like MGS4, Resistance 2 and killzone 2.
And the ps3 also has features like bluray while the wii cant even play dvds

Lot of good multiplatform games coming out. The problem is that you already have a core game system that will play everything aside from the couple of exclusives that are coming out this year on ps3.

Since you have a 360 why not skip the ps3 and get a Wii? You will have the opportunity to play more exclusives in the long run. Unless of course you're willing to shell out 500+ dollars for the three games you can't play on Xbox this year. In which case be my guest, and send me money too since you're obviously rich. ;)

Get a Wii because the PS3 and Xbox 360's respective libraries are too similar to warrant purchasing both. I should add, though, that this discussion is not worth having unless you've downloaded and beaten Castlevania: Symphony of the Night off Xbox Live Arcade. And don't forget about backward compatibility - the Xbox has alot of great games beyond Halo (Psychonauts, Shenmue II, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Panzer Dragoon Orta, etc).

Some one else suggested that you make a list of prospective games you want.

Do this.

I did it when I decided to buy a console, and actually spent a few hours checking exclusives out for the Wii, 360, and PS3 on wikipedia.

Some of those PS3 exclusives look freaking amazing. Mm mm mmm LittleBig Planet.

From my personal taste, the Wii looks rather bland. I've never been a Metroid, Zelda, Mario fan... So... uh? There was nothing there for me. As I dislike shooters, there was only a small handful of things from the 360. I settled on the PS3, but I seriously encourage you to do your own research on games that are out and coming out that you'd like to try.

(As an aside, PS3 comes with built in wireless adapter, free on-line play, etc. It took me 30 seconds to attach myself to the internet.)

I can't really talk about the PS3, but I can talk about Wii.

Okay, downloadable content, the Wii has it's virtual console, which gives you access to a lot of the classics of gaming. To be honest, I've probably spent more time on virtual console games than Wii releases at this point. Also, the virtual console will soon be hosting independant and new games as well, much like Xbox Live does. There's also a basic news and weather channel built in to the Wii for free.

Online play is free, and the Wii also comes with built-in wireless adapater. I believe the network cable adapater is a separate purchase (though I'm not sure, as the wireless set-up was simple, so I never even bothered trying to hook it up through ethernet). You can get on the internet with it for a small one time download fee for the internet channel. Having the internet on the TV is actually surprisingly useful when we shop online, but we like to kibbitz about what we're going to get, so YMMV.

As for online play, to be honest, I haven't done much. There don't seem to be that many games out that use it, currently, and it's widely recognized that having to exchange friend codes first with someone in order to play is a royal pain.

On the downside, some of what people say about the Wii is correct, there only seems to be a few really good boxed titles out there for it right now, and there's a ton of shovelware being moved in order to take advantage of the high unit sales.

1. I don't believe that graphics make the game. I'd pick the system with actaul depth via gameplay.
2. Right now, the Wii has more 1st party support than the PS3 (i.e. more exclusive games).
3. I only have a Wii, but the downloadable content (SNES, N64, Genesis, etc.) will keep you coming back. One downside, you will have to have a wireless connection, or you'll have to pay around $30 for a Wii LAN adapter.
4. The PS3, without a doubt, has the better online support. Very few games out right now, and not many in the future will support online gameplay on the Wii.

Buy the system that has three games you like playing.

Another thing to consider is, Wii games hit store shelves fast. So you won't have to wait a decade for a game you saw in a preview. Wait is usually 3 months.

I can only speak for the Wii as I own a Xbox 360 and a Wii personally.

The Wii's incredibly cheap price make it a good bargain and it does have a great amount of games that are worth playing. As well as a nice catalogue of Gamecube games if you dont own a GC already.

I plan on buying a PS3 eventually (Sony reduced the price to 300 GBP, about time as well) becuase I do beleive the PS3 has alot to offer but if you want more choice and you own a 360 already then the Wii is the way to go, the majority of the good games for the PS3 are out for the 360 as besides the most anticipated PS3 exsclusives are not out yet and in the mean time the PS3 can only get cheaper.

I have both, and I love both, which is why I voted that you would like either one, but with Brawl coming out on March 9th, I can't let it go unmentioned. I'm a huge smash brother's fan, and online play is going to be awesome. I can easily see it being the only new game I will ever need. Just something to think about...

The wii is definately the better console if you've already got a 360. Since you've got that for traditional shooter-type games, RPGs etc you can get the wii for less than half the price of a ps3 and have a much more varied and interesting games collection.

If that is all that you care about, just keep your 360 and save $550 :)

You agree with Mr McGee that the Wii is the place to be? We'll see! We are going to flee (my wallet and me) to see if the gamestop has a Wii. Though it could be that the Wii will be unavailable to one like me (a late buyer, you see..)and I will be barking up a tree, unfortunately.

I have both and I must say that the Wii pales in comparison to the PS3. The PS3's online is astounding while the Wii lacks it almost completely. The downloadable content on the PS3 gives more of what I want, but dependant on what you want you may well prefer the Wii's.

I hope it's just not me, but I find the Wiimote to be the most annoying piece of unresponsive crap that has ever been built on this planet. But if you want my full opinion, Nintendo seems to be gathering a crowd that relies on a company that DID make good games. But thats it, the company are relying on their past reputation for making amazing games (and they were amazing games)... and the annoying thing is, it's working. Nintendo fan boys hanging on their every word defending a defenceless console, even though it now seems to be selling overpriced housewife mini games by the bundle. I for wish them to see that it's not as great as they think it is. (Apologies for the rant)

The Wii is fun if you enjoy games aimed at kids, don't look for now future developments in graphics and are willing to throw online out the window. I, on the other hand, prefer PS3 or XBOX.

My advice: sell your 360, and buy both a Wii and a Ps3. Most of the good games are for both the Ps3 and the 360, while the Ps3 version is better. And any console restricted games on the 360 are going to be heavily outweighed, outclassed, out everythinged by the Ps3's console exclusives.

Either: don't get either, get a Wii or get a PC. In other words, don't get a PS3.

Save up your money and buy all three. It took forever but that's what I did and now when a game comes out my only concern is...do I want to play it on a system that all my friends own (360) or do I want to play with total strangers (PS3). Then I just forget both and go play No More Heroes! Let the blood rain down on me!

The Wii is more cost-effective. You can get a Wii and roughly 5 games for the same price as a PS3 without any games. If you pick up the Wii and all those games that are already out that you're interested in, that's at least a month of solid entertainment there.

As for your other points, downloadable content is probably going to be stronger on the PS3 for a while, but once developers really start to get used to the Wii then all three consoles should be equal in that category. Same thing for online play - the Wii has been starting out slow with online-capable titles, but that'll be picking up soon enough (although the 360 is probably going to beat out both in terms of online play for the rest of this generation).

On the final point of fun-factor, there are and will be fun games on every console. The real difference between the PS3 and Wii here is that Wii games will try to be fun in new ways using the motion controls, while PS3 games will be fun in the traditional gaming sense. So that's really just a personal preference there for which kind of fun you prefer.

So really my whole point is just that they're probably both going to provide the same amount of enjoyment, it's just the Wii can do it for $300 less.

Buy a Wii for variety, and you'll have more money left over for games.
