Take it back Halflife is the way forward. They are the only good games coming out at the moment and im sure HL2 E3 is going to live up to what people are saying |

Beat Writer Posts: 144 Joined: 2 Feb 2008 | I'd say the new Grand Theft Auto will be way overhyped. OPS2:A (Official Playstation Magazine: Australia) hyped San Andreas up to epic proportions, even going so far as to mocking anyone that wrote in and talked it down. Consistently, they named it to be the best ever game of its year (2006, yes?) and until Unchartered and Assassin's Creed came out, it was constantly marked as 'Best Game EVAR' in all their various lists and relists. I'd say the new GTA will be no different. It'll be hyped up to epic proportions and when it comes out, it'll just take the old game, add a new protagonist, a same-but-slightly-different plot and all the same types of missions. Oh, and they'll just bang on a bunch of assorted 'side games' to play, like paper delivery, or rubbish collecting, or mail delivery, or running the subway, or sweeping pavements. |

I am going to have to agree with you on Brawl. It looks like a fun game, but from what I have heard, it doesn't add too much from what was established in Melee. |

Muckraker Posts: 297 Joined: 31 Oct 2006 | Star Wars: Force Unleashed. i'm bracing for a steaming pile of franchised tech-demo shite. they're over-emphasizing the tech in the PR, and it's the first game to use all these new physics techs. chances are, it'll be more failure than success in making these systems fun and meaningful. and that trailer showing you bringing down the star destroyer? i'll bet $50 that's not gonna be playable. |

I'm pretty sure you won't be bringing down a star destroyer, and if you do, chances are it'll be a button mashing or matching system... i think thats designed just to show you how powerful the dude is. I mean i know yoda did the whole size matters not thing, so why do jedi struggle more with big objects over little ones? but yeah the whole ai trying to keep themselves alive thing is bound to be a glitch fest... but sadly its a game with a lightsaber... so no doubt i'll be getting it... |
Muckraker Posts: 270 Joined: 1 Feb 2008 | IMHO, Crysis. Or was that last year? Oh well, my point being, graphics alone do not a perfect game make ... that is, if you can even see the "pur-tea" graphics. I haven't felt the need to rush out and by anything based on how good it looks since, well, ever. Is it fun? Sure, but is it the end all be all to PC Gaming? Hardly. In fact, I don't even know why they bother hyping games anymore, its almost always a let down... oh yeah, increased revenue, that's why. Greedy bastards, why can't they (you know the mysterious they, like Men in Black) just make a good game and then make another game that we will all hype for them free of charge because they made a good game before? You know, like we do for Blizzard and Valve and what not... |
Copy Clerk Posts: 105 Joined: 10 Feb 2008 | I don't tend to pay too much attention to hype. The last time I did that (Fable) I ended up with... Well, you know what I got. Someone up there made the point about Duke Nukem Forever, except that that's so under-hyped that it'll take some serious marketing to bring it to acceptable hype levels. My vote would be for Final Fantasy XIII, if we knew anything about it at all. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1556 Joined: 5 Dec 2007 | Haze and Killzone 2 definately. FarCry 2, Force Unleashed and Spore can all be game of the year or overhyped of the year. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 definately, i cannot fathom what people se in games like that. |

Trying to start a ps3 fanboy fight? I never got into MGS because I am not patient enough to wait for the money shot. I expect people who liked the prequels of the game will enjoy it, hype be damned. Those of us who get all bent out of shape when PR people do their jobs will post impotently about how annoying it is to be promised a game that ends world hunger, and actually just is a game about hiding in cardboard boxes. In the end it comes down to something Public Enemy said best. Edit: I keep getting PE, and NWA confused. Edited for general stupidity. |

I'm gonna go out on a limb and agree with you. Odds are they won't solve fundamental problems with the game such as it being easier to throw a bomb 50 yards down field than to spot a man 5 yards away from the QB. And any fundamental problems they do solve will be replaced by equally perplexing ones. About the only change I think we'll see will be the horrible soundtrack they insist on blaring at you. |

For a game to be overhyped people have to give a damn about it first. Anyways, I'm going with Killzone 2. The first one was okay, but it didn't make me splooge all over myself like all the fanboys hyping it up said it would, and I can't see number 2 (ya, ya, laugh it up) doing any better. |

Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 23 Jan 2008 | Mario Kart Wii. Even with online play it will become boring in no time (although if they make a stage creator it may be a different story). The gameplay looks to be pretty much the same as before and no redeeming innovative additions to it. I mean at least SSBB tried to spice things up with final smashes. I think MGS4 will live up to it and hopefully pull the PS3 out of the ditch and onto the market road, but I agree with everyone one else on Killzone 2, it'll be generic. And as for the 360... I can't think of any exclusives that are really that hyped that will arrive this year (I doubt GOW2 will make it time for 2008). Finally for PC I'd say Frontlines, come on people! it's 2142 with a different game mode and AI. Also Starcraft 2. |

I'm not so sure that MGS will disappoint (although it WILL be FAR from the best thing ever), but I'm going to agree with you on Killzone. The first one was kind of disappointing, and I have a feeling that the devs are gonna mess it up again. Edit: Looking at the above posts, I'm also gonna have to agree with Mario Kart Wii (if only because I'm quickly losing faith in the Wii's ability to use its control scheme properly in more than one game per year) and Halo Wars (because as much as I love the 360, RTS just doesn't work on it--for me, at least). |
Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | I'm going with Killzone 2 and Far Cry 2 as the most overhyped games ever. Spore is hyped, but if it lives up to half the hype, it'll be a brilliant game. MGS4 is overhyped, but should still be pretty awesome. FF13 or whatever it is now is seriously overblown. It might be alright, but IMO every FF past 7 has gone down hill slowly. SSBB will just be grand. I'll love it. It is the end of the series though, since they're nowhere to go from there. |
Muckraker Posts: 341 Joined: 26 Jan 2008 | I get a feeling DN Forever is going to prove overhyped. Judged by its development team, I just don't see how it can rise to the level of its predecessor (which shared the title of best FPS with Quake for a time in the mid-90s) - since, in contemporary terms, it would have to be as good as Bio-Shock or Metroid Prime 3 to do so. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2717 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | lol. It has to be Fable 2. Even though I've heard no hype around Fable 2 but I bet theres a truckload of it somewhere |
Copy Clerk Posts: 97 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | Crysis by a mile. The PC magazines are more guilty of spreading the hype than the company itself. It's a barely average shooter and they treat it like god's gift just because it looks pretty. In the meantime, nobody with a life cares. I thought gaming magazines were over the whole "it looks good so therefore it must be a great game" thing but obviously not. |

Man's best friend. Awesome fights using only one button. Those are the ones we've heard so far. Oh and the gumph about choices and good and evil. I'll still probably get it...*sigh*. |

There's been very little hype, especially since Peter Molynieux is involved. |

Which upcoming game do you think will be the most overhyped game of 2008?
Personally I doubt that Killzone 2 will be the Halo3/CoD4 killer. That's what they said last time!
I also expect the new FF and MSG4 to be over-hyped (Warning: Extreme case of fanboyism detected! :P)as these games along with blu-ray were the only things that fueled the sales of PS3, until they got some decent exclusives like Warhawk and Uncharted.
