Dragon Age is being developed by Bioware and looks to be very cool. It won't be based off of DnD, unlike most of their RPG's, which I am thankful for because I play PnP and ruin my own fun by pointing out deficiencies in rulebook implementations. For now, DnD's too diverse for a video game to cover properly. |
Paperboy Posts: 22 Joined: 12 Feb 2008 | Starcraft 2 is not likely to hit til later in the year, maybe even pushed over to early next year. Internal beta has not even started yet, so it will be at least 5 months I would guess. More than likely more though. Blizzard rarely release a game without prior testing. Same can't be said about some of the patches though. ;) FPS market is fairly limited, and likely you're not going to find an amazing game hitting the shelves for a little while. Possibly pushed back, but if you're on a PS3 currently Little Big Planet looks to be rather interesting. Otherwise there's not a lot that will change the world imo. |

It's a prequel to Stalker, with much more emphasis on the different factions. In a similar time frame you should have Left 4 Dead, although Valve have apparently bought Turtle Rock Studios, so you should maybe expect it to be extremely polished and extremely late. I don't know about Battlefield, but there is that Frontlines : Fuel of War coming out shortly. I have no idea what it's like. The PC demo for The Club has finally been released. I haven't tried it yet as it is 1.9 gig and I have a half meg line. Assassin's Creed in March? The system requirements are obscene (16 core processor, 8 gig ram, Silicon Graphics Workstation) but I'm sure it's not just another lazy port - they've added 4 WHOLE MISSIONS just for us PC leeters. And apparently it's the 'Collector's Edition'. Although if they're all the CE, then how, uh, what? I guess the implication is that the PC version will be 'limited', heh heh. Sorry (I'll get me coat). It's not exactly an RTS per se, but Sins of a Solar Empire is out now and well worth the price of admission (digital download only in Europe). Some time within the next month they expect to have a demo out. I don't know when it's slated for release, but you've got Oblivion 2020 coming out... I mean Fallout 3. Whether you thought Oblivion was overrated tosh, or just worry that Bethesda Soft's hacks can't handle the Fallout IP, either way you're sure (or at least very likely) to be disappointed, even as it racks up the highest review scores ever seen (10.7 from IGN). Conflict Denied Ops? It's out now, and I've not seen a review yet. Nothing to worry about there then. Caveat emptor - it's released by Eidos. You have been warned. Moving on from 'off the top of my head' to 'what PC Gamer says is coming out in 2008' we have - Football Manager Live There are others. Many others. I guess the pc isn't quite on it's last legs just yet. I apologise unreservedly for any and all attempts at humour contained within this post. |

The focus is an emergent world through AI - could potentially be a different experience from the heavily staged and scripted HL. I'm looking forward to modders getting to grips with map creation for Portal, along with some new official levels we can most probably expect. As for RPGs - the new GTA is coming out soon... |

Wait. GTA? RPG? Whut? On the subject of RPGs: Isn't Fallout 3 due this year? |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 585 Joined: 13 Dec 2007 | Devil May Cry 4 is apparently coming out on April Fools Day, according to some stores and Gamefaqs.... Of course, there's always the question of how well it will be ported. And there's always the possibility of Starcraft 2 getting delayed. |

Yeah... Bethesda said it would be out in the autumn of 2008. I hope they release it soon, along with Starcraft II and DreamFall Chapters it is one of the games I look forward to. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 55 Joined: 1 Dec 2007 | Alan Wake maybe late 08, but they're already on record as saying it'll need dual core, vista, and probably a whole slew of other expensive options. Farcry 2 should shape up as the FPS of the year for PCs - the teh demos have been impressive, and they seem to be shying away from the hamfisted storytelling the Crytek love. |

Lost Empire: Immortals as well, more 4X in space, from Paradox Interactive, makers of sliderrific micro-management games like Hearts of Iron 2. Also, there's always Dwarf Fortress, which has had a new version release recently. |

Warhammer Online and Fallout 3 are kind of in the category of Duke Nukem, as in don't expect it until its already released. Fear2 has potential though. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 88 Joined: 17 Feb 2008 | Cartoons are fun, you can do things you can't do with realistic games. Creativity is not a bad thing, well unless you are incredibly dull and scared by anything not rolling off the normal EA cookie cutter. As for Duke Forever if that comes out this year, I will eat my hat. Hopefully GTA4 will come out sometime soon and Alan Wake promises to use multiple cores properly. That could be neat. |

Well, if GTA IV is anything like GTA SA: Ok, so, fine 'action' rpg - but clearly RPG nonetheless? |

You said that cartoon graphics are an "insult" to your 8800GTX. TF2 has cartoon graphics. He's asking if you find that insulting. I don't know if it's this year, but Project Origin is due out sometime. It's the TRUE sequel to FEAR. It's even made by Monolith. |

Oh, if that's the case, yep. If I want caricature or cartoon, I'll play console. |

No, you're just the only person to admit it. It's like the shameful secret of most gamers for some reason. Not that I play it or anything. |

Don't worry, it needs the hype, because it looks like a black cat's behind. |

I've been out of the loop on what the programmers are working on in recent times... I find that aside from certain items well announced (and yet never delivered), I don't seem to hear about upcoming games until they're on the shelf...
For my own gaming areas of interest, does anyone know of good (or at least decent) PC titles to look forward to?
RTS - I know Starcraft II will EVENTUALLY hit, and Soulstorm should be out next month... DoW2 may not make their December goal, and these three titles are all I know to be upcoming... Any others that would be worth mention?
FPS-Standard - Duke Nukem Forever? Lulz... I've heard mention of Farcry 2, and of course HL Episode 3. Anything else in the "actually has a single-player campaign" market?
FPS-MassOnline - Well EA's new Battlefield will be a f**king cartoon game... Good for N64 or Wii, but such things are an insult to an 8800GTX. I literally know of no Battlefield-style games upcoming, any word on such things?
RPG - I know of quite literally know of nothing upcoming here, worth mention or not... I'd place money on a second Neverwinter2 expansion because history shows a Neverwinter game is never complete until released in Gold-Pressed Latinum Edition... Since they removed Aurora, It will BE the fifth or sixth edition of NWN2 before I give two shits about it... Fable2 is most likely not going to release on PC when it hits the Box, so that's nothing to look forward to, and if Squenix didn't make the Final Fantasy line so damn exclusive to the NothingToPlay-Station, I'd have a whole one title to expect.
And the Catchall category, with lead title Spore... IF Spore ever comes out, I'll seem to disappear from Terra, but until then, anyone know of other possibly-interesting games I can hope for?
