I have tried out the PS3. Overall, I was unimpressed. Then again, personal tastes in games varies. Personally, the only games on the PS3 I'm interested in that I cannot get on the 360 are Heavenly Sword(s), Drake's Fortune, MGS4, and FFXIII.

I own a PS3 and 360, and i'll soon to own a Wii

i must say that the only time the 360 gets any fucking use is when my brother and me sit down to Co-Op Halo 3
and not cause the game is god, but because it's very funny to find all the guns i'm "NEVER allowed to touch again"

also the idea the moment i got on a chopper for the first time i thought it was a flying machine and rode off a cliff >.>

actually for Halo I was basically the heavy, i drove the tank, used the Grav hammer, if I hit hard or lots I used it

needless to say neither me or my bro became heavily impressed with the 360, but were very different gamers, i myself prefer platform and RPG, he is a sports and FPS gamer, i never claim a game is god, but he literally tried to con his 360 onto me for my PS3 (he owns the 360, i own the Wii)

neither of us followed the console development either, so i dont know about Sony shooting there mouths off or anything, maybe thats better for me, also the 360 is falling into the shape of our old X-box, we buy a group of games for it then never touch it again, because as previously stated, we treated our PS2, which never broke down by the way, like god and i have it right next to my PS3 if i wanna boot up .Hack//G.U or FFXII

i say my PS3 is better, and NOT just because we've seen the dreaded Red Ring of Death, but because me and him ARE NOT MULTIPLAYER PEOPLE, he doesn't believe in shelling out money TO ANYONE for anything extra, reason why he refuses to play MMO games, I myself only weigh up the costs on bank balance, call us stingy, but in Australia it's pretty costy.

onto the games, right 360 see's Halo 3, PS3 see's Ratchet and Clank Future, yup thats it, i think he plays a soccer game to, but i dont care for that, as the reason he wanted my PS3 was because the exact same game was 'BETTER' on the PS3 according to him, funwise, Ratchet wins, Onlines not a big thing for me, and Ratchet provided a fun Campaign for me, who's still a kid at heart

Halo 3 was fun to, but it was only fun with my brother at my side, and his confused glances when i would leap into a horde of flood with a gravity hammer repeating how much i hate the flood, it was fun for us, especially when the first time i got my hand on the rocket launcher i promptly blew us both to Narnia, but it didn't stop the fun, even after we had ruled out i could never touch the Flame Thrower again, we enjoyed driving the tank, as i somehow managed to shoot everything with pin point shots, when i'm horrible with the sniper, probably the funnest moment was when we accidentally took over a Covenant tank, only to realize we had cleared the area, and promptly had to abandon it, good times is all i can say.

the Wii also looks fun to me, now i wanna point something out, my TV is really crappy since my elder sister managed to get my better one out of my grasp (My parent's tried convincing me the older one had a bigger screen but with the shit the fuck lighting it barely made up for it)

but I never regretted the investment I made on my PS3, and while the 360 fan boys told me to sell it and buy a 360, and the Wii and PC gamers both acted like they played with gods balls every day, i found that my ability to debate has become a little bit better

let me ask you this, which system gets the most shit? the PS3, who's fans have to defend it more, the 360 and Wii fans get off easy, but the average PS3 fan has to hone his debating skills to stay alive, which really gets under my skin when they drop the losing debate for "Your stupid, 360 is better and it just is"

what am i trying to say?
People dont like a system they dont play, or claim it's not that great, I know someone who said all video games suck and are boring and pointless because they played Diner Dash, or somethiong along those lines, which makes little to no sense to me, i still enjoy my old game library from the PS1, N64, SNES and sometimes the NES, but i noticed how many people shouted at me for having a PS2 still when the X-box came out, and how during development, the 360 fanboys leaped on me like vultures to a corpse, all because i said "we'll I'll pick them both up, most likely the Wii will be better"

really i'm just listing personal points here, so i dont have any real facts from interviews or anything, so take it as a bit of home research, by ya know, playing the console

i have both a ps3 and xbox 360, honestly while the ps3 will eventually have some great exclusives out the xbox has a lot more games that are generally better made and plus there's the achievements to get. sony annoys partly because when i purchased a psp it broke within six months. so we sent it to sony to be fixed. sony claimed it was never received by them when in fact they had lost the damn thing. they claimed we never sent it and so on and so forth for SIX BLOODY MONTHS! six months of endless phone calls , redirections, lies and bullshit. when they finally returned it they gave me a free one with it, but frankly that doesn't really cut it.
oh also my xbox has never broken down on me *touch wood* but hey, neither has my ps3.

Perhaps it's just me, but on almost every gaming forum (other than this one) I go on, there is prejudice against the PS3. But these Forums even have their moments of PS3 hating. I want to know why?

I have always been into Playstation because of Metal Gear Solid. I was there from the beginning of the Metal Gear Solid series, but unfortunately being to young to have been there from the Metal gear series (I just see them as poor games now and would prefer to check up the story on the internet).

Do we have reason other than it rivals the 360? Are we this immature to not just enjoy both systems?

(Would prefer to not have a fan boy response such as "360=PWN j00 n00b" OR "PS3 is teh PWNZORZ" Not that I would expect this from Escapist users being the intellectual bunch that we are with the exception of MGG=reviews)

well mgs or not ps3 is only being hated for the price how many games it has and that it has games that are supposed to come out and don't but get delaided and really end up sucking reguardless i want to get a ps3 i have the money but i really don't want to buy a ps3 unless it has games worth while to buy personaly i already have a 360 and it awsome right amount of game s at the right price for the console and a little more than i wish to pay for the games of the shelve so there for i'm still speculating if i should get the ps3 or not when you have some real on why i should get the ps3 e-mail me and i will see if you are right

i think its a question of hubris. Just like Nintendo before them, they got a bit tipsy on PS and PS2 success and thought they'd "just follow their vision" and that we'd all follow lockstep behind them. And now, just like Nintendo, they're suffering the backlash.

I own both a PS3 and a Wii, and i have to say i'm very happy with my PS3. Infact, i havn't booted up my Wii in a long while (that'll change when i get Brawl, for sure)

I can understand people's complaints of the PS3, but alot of those complaints can be overruled.

1. Over-priced: That's only if you choose to go with the 60GB or 40GB (whichever one wasn't discontinued, to lazy to check) and the cheapest so far is $400, just without backwards-compatibility and a few other features. I usualy don't use the Backwards-compat. So i don't know why people complain about that alot.

2. Lack of games: the PS3 was going to have many games, the problem was that developers kept on saying "Yeah, we lied, *insert game here* is also going to be for the Xbox360!" which really pissed me off. The games that it does have are great (in my opinion). The exclusives for the PS3, both present and future, are/will be great and the multiplatform (I.E. Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, ect.)

Compared to the Wii's game line up, alot of it is just shovelware or part of Nintendo's main franchise of games (getting a little sick of Zelda, have to be honest) name 5 games that isn't shovelware or part of Nintendo's main franchise like Zelda and Mario.

Feel free to disprove me, but i'd prefer if you did in a mature fashion.

EDIT: And since blu-ray won the format wars, that's another Pro to the PS3

True, it's especially frustrating at this point, I never cared for bashing another consoles' owner just because they love it, if anything I share most people'spain of (at least mine) the sacrifice to afford a gaming console/HDTV/cables/switchbox...etc . If anything I relate (awkwardly) to weird great moments with PS3. errr.. But I digress, it's frustrating when reading editorial comments for new GOOD info on games & updates and I gotta go through all the stupid PS3 hating comments for a sensible and RELATED answer or view of the articles original subject. I really don't think it's cuz I jumped from XBOX to PS3, I have my reasons but I never felt the need to sh*t on others, for anything as a matter of fact - but I admit some do have it coming to them...

Well, I agree with what you said, and I have my opinion too, but I'll first explain where I'm coming from.

As for me, I'm a poor college student. I suck at video games (well, maybe not SUCK...I'm no prodigy or anything though), but I still enjoy playing them. I play all kinds from Guitar Hero to COD4 to the Final Fantasies to...well, you get my point. I love multiplayer games as much as single person RPG's, so I've always been a little bit neutral. Heck, I didn't even buy my 360 until this past January. That being said, this is how I feel.

I have few problems with the system itself. Bluray is obviously a better format than HD lookswise. The system has no "red rings of death" problems. What I *do* have a problem with is the way Sony went about the system release. I followed the console wars mostly because I'm a gamer at heart. That, and I worked in the mall for a while and was great friends with most Game Stop employees there. I think Sony really pulled off an epic fail in the way it was launch and the pricing. I argue that the 360 is a better choice for me because I'm poor and want exactly what I want. I don't want to have to pay for things I'm not going to use (like the Bluray...no offense but I'm going to stick to my DVDs. The difference between the two disc formats means a few days of food for me, or some gas for my car *not much nowadays...sigh*). I think Sony banked on their loyal fanbase to bring them through, but failed to realize that most of their loyal fanbase are not in a position to run out and buy a PS3 right away.

I guess the real perk to the PS3 *in my opinion* is the few games that are exclusively on the PS3, but I don't think that exclusivity will last long. Game developers are businessmen who want to make money. I have a feeling that most (not all) of the "PS3 only" games will eventually get released to the 360, especially come Christmas time. And unfortunately, the only reason I'd get a PS3 is for the games.

Your entitled to your opinion, in fact i know alot of gamers like you, i Rarely pick up games for myself, even then it's usually for the DS, i still haven't upgraded to Lite, now i got the PS3 for 3 reasons
1. I supported Sony since the PS1, i wasn't going to stop now cause everyone was hooting in my ear about something i didn't care about.
2. My brother had assured me he was going to get his 360, and I knew I would be getting a PS3 and Wii for my 17th (Sorta Spoiled, but since i dont get anything ever unless it's Christmas or with my own cash, it evens out)i'm still waiting on the Wii... my 17th was last September... it took till January this year to GET the PS3.
3. It has games I want, even had my brother not gotten the 360, I don't see games I personally want on there, the Wii had games I wanted, but the PS3 gave me Ratchet Future (great game), Final Fantasy 13 (as mentioned previously I lack a major game library normally i pick up the long hours)the INEVITABLE .Hack game, Digimon World Online (Kid at heart, dont judge), Metal Gear Solid 4 (honestly i only glanced BRIEFLY at 1-3, since i cant find them anywhere, but it looks fun)the INEVITABLE Kingdom Hearts game (I love the series honestly no shame in loving something that can make Mickey Mouse bad ass without changing his personality), Soul Calibur 4 (haven't played one since Soul Blade for the PS1 Ported from the Arcade, Tekken 6 (So i can beat the ass of my friend who obsessively spams the auto hit moves, or the Mishima spin kick.... the prick)and Maybe Deus Ex 3

it's not alot of games, but i dont care to much, i have an old PS1 and PS2, which have never broken on me in all the long year's I've had them, hell my old Gameboy Colour still works, and my giant black brick (Original Gameboy... huge)This is coming from me though, i never checked out 'Stats, this thing has Cell this has Blu-ray' i am a Gamer, but i'm a gamer based on the games, if something i want comes out for 360, I'll grab that and lend it off my bro, i'm lucky I guess.

however if my history of Sony Products continue i shouldn't EVER break down (One i forgot to turn the PS3 off when i went on camp, and it's in a small dark area, of wood, and when i came back it worked fine, i turned it off though to give it a rest)

Now, I don't hate the PS3, I just find it overpriced (I don't need a Blu-ray player, wireless ect.), and more importantly, I don't like most of the games that are coming/have come out for the console (I like shooters and games developed by American and European developers, so this is just opinion).

I suppose that's why some people hate the thing. **runs and hides**

Personally, I believe that the PS3 is not a bad system. I just think that PS3 owners are more smug about their systems than others. They will talk on and on about the number of processors that the system has, the fact that it's a Blu-Ray "Multimedia centre" (saying that made me feel dirty), and generally that they think it's a better system. Granted, this is no different from any other console owners. Xbox boys will drone on about Xbox live, how Halo 3 is the "Best game EVAR" (That made me feel even dirtier than the multimedia thing), and how their console has a better game library. Wii owners love to talk about innovative controls, motion sensors, and the franchise players that they have backing their systems up. All of the systems have their own flaws. I think it's just the fact that the PS3 has somewhat bombed on the market so far, and the fans are still smug, that causes so much hate.

Issue 1: Blu-Ray - I honestly am sick and tired of all of this Blu-Ray malarky. I couldn't care less how pretty it looks, or the fact that it won the format "war". It's not going to replace DVDs anytime soon. The fact that it comes with a Blu-Ray player is a nice feature, but it's not a major selling point.

Issue 2: Exclusives - PS3 is getting it's ass handed to it as far as exclusives go. Yeah, Drake's Fortune was pretty and played well, but that's about it so far. Heavenly Sword(s) is, IMO, just filler until the next God of War. Microsoft has Halo, Bioshock, and other titles on which it's hat can hang. The Wii is dominating in the exclusives department. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Brawl have all been stellar games, and have overshot anything the PS3 has come out with. Until MGS4 comes out, PS3 seems somewhat out of the competition for me.

Issue 3: Selling Points - PS3 has shot itself in the foot as far as selling points go. It's got a Blu-Ray player (which isn't all that useful until it knocks DVD off it's throne as the main media format.) It's got a motion sensor controller...which is nothing compared to the Wii's controller. It's got online support...which is nothing compared to XboxLive. It has lost it's backwards compatibility in recent editions. And, it doesn't have a great library of titles. Yeah, a GAME system that doesn't have a good library of GAMES ...I'll hop right on that. All of that, for $600.

Given that it's only been out for a year and a half, the console is by no means out of the running. Xbox 360 and Wii have thrown some of their best punches now, and it will be a while before any more awesome exclusive titles come out for those systems. In that gap, the PS3 has a chance to make up some ground on the competition.

*All of this is just my opinions. I'm entitled to mine, just as you are entitled to yours. Please don't counter my ranting with a ranting of how I'm an idiot.*

PS3 is of course going to beat the 360 handily in Japan, and I think now it's selling more in Europe (could be wrong), so Sony will do okay. I imagine though their break-even date has been moved way back from initial projections. From what I've read the Cell is harder to program than originally expected, pushing back game delivery dates and making it impossible to use all the graphics power of the PS3 and maintain playable frame rates. With the lower-than-expected PS3 sales figures and harder-than-anticipated programming, Sony will have to pay more for future exclusives though.

Blu-Ray will gradually become more of a selling point, although I too have no use for it at this stage. But I've already seen standalone Blu-Ray players priced less than the cheapest PS3. And from what I've seen of projections, Blu-Ray won't become the dominant medium until toward or even beyond the end of the PS3's life span. I agree that probably the vast majority of people willing to purchase a PS3 primarily as a Blu-Ray player have already done so. Thus it won't help Sony's future sales as much (if I'm guessing correctly.)

I'd heard part of the reason to go to Cell was to make it more difficult for a programmer to release a PS3 game for other platforms, thus giving Sony an exclusive (or at least an exclusive for a year or so) without paying for it. I don't have any clue if any of that is true re: Sony's intent, but certainly the added difficulty in programming for Cell has, in conjunction with the low installed base of PS3's, limited the number of games migrated to the PS3. But I'd guess that difficulty will be limited to the first couple of years, until programmers gain proficiency and (probably) development tools improve.

In my opinion the console war is basically over at this point. Besides a few exclusives here and there, people have become pretty settled with their consoles of choice.

But I guess people will still debate about it for a long time to come.

The PS3 slump is pretty much over by now. And to be honest, with Blu-Ray having 50 gigs, and some pretty powerful hardware built in, it's pretty difficult to say that the PS3 sucks anymore.

Granted, I doubt it will reach the level of success of the PS2, but whatever.

I don't get why people gave it shit for the 600 dollar price tag when it first came out.

Looking at it as a cheap bastard, it had what?

blue ray player
backwards compatabilty
and was still a PS3.

So say you wanted all of that, but the ps3 didn't have any of it, it was just a game console.
That would be:
130 for a new PS2.(not counting memory cards for it, which are still fuckin expensive, even for used)
Lets say 400 for a bare bones PS3
And how much does a blu ray player cost?

Do I think Sony should have released varying models to appeal to the masses, absolutely.
I think having a bottom barrel ps3 for 300 and a top of the line "Home entertainment" model for 600, with a backwards compatible, 60 gig, no useless stuff for 450 would have helped them out greatly.

Personally, until I finally shelled out to buy a ps3 (around xmas when the price went down), I hated it due to its high cost (How could Sony screw us like that!?).

Besides, its the -in- thing to dudespeak about stuff you hate, rather than extrapolate how you truely feel about it.

I'm very big into the multiplayer aspect of gaming. Thats why I'll be sticking with my 360. I also don't like the PS3 price and added features I'll never use.

The only thing that throws me off the PS3 is the price. I'm defiantly going to get one when the prices become reasonable.

EDIT--And when Blu-ray DVD's are the "norm".

You know why ps3 owners tend to talk about that so often? Because they have to. I bought one at launch (got a job so I could waste a few bucks (though XBL subscription will pull the 360's cost over that of a ps3 in the end) and I'm a huge VF fan who really couldn't wait). Practically everybody who's been in my room since then has asked me about that purchase. And if they're 360 owners they'll instantly try to sell me on their system. (Hey, I've got a Philips tv too, maybe you'd like to point out the features on your samsung?)

At least I got one friend who just says he likes the games offer better and doesn't subscribe to XBL (Mass Effect, Crackdown, Dead Rising). He's a light of hope compared to the others I've met.

But the thing I really don't get is people cracking down on the ps3's game library and then start praising the Wii...

I own all 3 systems on a scale of worst to best the order in my opinion is the wii, Xbox 360, and the PS3. The wii uses 20 year old games and beats them so hard to make games and cant even get one new idea and the motion controls in many games are horrible to play with. The 360 well is kinda average and doesnt deserve all the praise its getting for Halo 3 and Gears of War. Those games are ok theyre not revolutionary just average. And Halo 3 isnt God's son or anything and i hate that the multiplayer is being an excuse for a somewhat mediocre single player. The PS3 (my favorite) doubles as a DVD player, Blu ray player (the best Hi Def DVD not the whole Hd dvd(the brand) bullshit) and plays every ps1 and ps2 game ever made unlike another system thats "backward compatible" (hint hint). Also many of the games you can get for the 360 are on the Ps3 and those games are not any better on the 360 either. There also exclusives to talk about Uncharted(very good, a really good buy) Haze(looking forward to getting) and other upcoming games. From these points I would say the PS3 is the best. Do i need to get on the subject of the Red Ring of Death issue thats been sweeping the nation?
