That's the nuts of it... however I don't think CoD is too bad, the leveling is done in such a way that you can do well no matter what level you're on. Plus I play it on PC without voice chat, so I don't have to endure the young uns. |

Like racism and trash talk. I admit that i trash talk so much to my bro and friends, but i do it for fun. I am not the racist 10 year old assbag on live ( although i am 14 years old :) ) And probably Mario. After galaxy, where could mario go now? Hell? (God Forbid.) |

Count me in, I went through exactly the same thing on WoW. That game felt pointless from the get go, I didn't feel like it had a structure or anything and the combat system was... Meh. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 91 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | Well I'd say first off is World of Warcraft. On the non pvp side it seems like a lot of the class changes were simply made to shut up whiners. Sadly I played until I came to the realization the game used to be fun. And I have to agree with the Marathon/Halo mention. |

Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea if Mario went all Satanic on us. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 408 Joined: 29 Jan 2008 | For me, it'd have to be Final Fantasy. I've never really been a fan of the series, and haven't bothered to play it. What definitely ISN'T going to change that fact is when people say to me "Oh my God! You haven't played FF7?!! What is wrong with you?! Are you mentally retarded or something?!" I'm not going to argue that it's a successful franchise. I'm not going to argue that it's not a good game, because I've never played it before, and that would be ignorant of me. But give me the same respect in that I don't want to play it. Also, my favourite game is beating a dead horse, so I'll play it now. I'm irritated by Halo fanboys. I couldn't give two shits if it sold the most copies on launch day ever. I just don't care. It's fun and all, but the fanboys stopped me from buying it; I don't want to have to face a bunch of preteen boys who know more curse words than they ought to, who feel so inclined to call me a n00b when I fail to win a game. I've been playing games since before these kids hit preschool. I was there when games only had two dimensions. I played games that these kids have never heard of, and never will, because they're too busy playing Halo 3 all damn day long. |

No, he means FFA PvP advocates. I like FFA (and PKing), too, but talk about guilt by association. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 413 Joined: 11 Jan 2008 | Metal Gear Solid 2 and the rest. MGS wasn't written overnight. The creator spent years writing it and it shows. Then Konami and fans force him to quickly write up the sequel and what we get is a lame mish-mash of sci-fi and anime crap starring a bloke that looks like a girl. Final Fantasy: I don't really know who's responsible, but whilst FF7, 8 & 9 had style and originality, all of the ones since again seem to be this influx of anime, girly boys, dumb love stories, idiotic battle systems and overdramatic presentation. I'm guessing FF is more for teenage girls these days- and it's just pathetic. I feel embarressed to admit I actually used to like Final Fantasy now. All Ninendo games- if the fans didn't keep buying these lame Mario games maybe Nintendo would come out with some interesting, original titles. |

"Towards the end of 2007, Super Mario Galaxy won numerous awards such as Game of the Year from IGN, GameSpot, Nintendo Power, GameTrailers, Edge, and Yahoo! Games. On February 7, 2008, the game received the "Adventure Game of the Year" award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences at the Interactive Achievement Awards."-quoted from the wikipedia SMG page How is that a "lame Mario game"? Was everyone who played it brainwashed? Maybe you didn't like it, but saying it's ruined by its fans is pushing it. |

Actually, my answer is somewhere in the middle. When I mean "fanatics", I mean the PvP elitists. I respect anyone's choice to play that type of game as long as they respect mine. I understand that Shadowbane and EVE are FFA winner take all games. That was what they were built to be. I accept that but I accept it by not playing those games. They are the people who scream "carebear", "pussy", "coward", etc. at everyone who disagrees with them. They are the people who demand that PvP deaths hurt the target more. Many of them are the ones who still can't accept the Trammel-Felucca situation in UO. And yes, they are the PKers who will do anything and everything possible to lock you out of a game in PvP-lite games like WoW. Look at the WoW forums. You can't throw a stone in there without hitting about 10 of them. |

That's how I feel. The so-called "Elitists" are willing to take everything but bet nothing. When I play Pirates of the Burning Sea, I love how Pirate Players will RUN AWAY the moment ANYONE attacks them first, even if they stand a good chance of winning the fight in the end. |

Thanks for being to popular). Also the Grand theft auto series, that doesn't mean I not going to get GTA IV, I'm just going to get sick of it when I heard about how many hookers some douche killed for the billion and a half time. |

So? I'm sure that extremely bashed Halo picked up a couple of awards too. Personally I haven't played SMG, but all that spin-off bullshit makes me sick and I don't really see much difference between SM64,SMS and SMG.Feels like the same game ported to the next generation of consoles. PS: Sorry for my biased opinion but little fuckers like these (CoD4,Halo 3,Portal,SMG)stole the GOTY's from truly decent games like The Orange Box or Bioshock(I know I made some overhyped rants about it but let's face it, it's still a fucking masterpiece). |
Paperboy Posts: 43 Joined: 11 Feb 2008 | Guitar Hero and Legend of Zelda. Guitar Hero has become a series of impossibly complex hammer ons and pull offs instead of a fun party game. Also, Guitar Hero 3 was really a sell out with all the ads for Axe Deodorant and Pontiac littering the levels along with a lot of songs that came out in the last 3 years. It just seemed like they were using the game to promote a bunch of cheap songs rather than picking songs that would be the most fun to play (like they did in Rock Band). Legend of Zelda has been trapped in some sort of Ocarina of Time alternate reality since 1998. They released a rare direct sequel in Majora's Mask, which was by far the most distinct game they've released since. Then they came out with the Wind Waker, which was basically Ocarina of Time on a boat with a baton thing, but the basic story structure was the same. Then they released Twilight Princess, which contradicted a lot of what Wind Waker said and could have been a good standalone game in the series. But no, Nintendo had to relate it back to Ocarina of Time in very vague, weak ways that seemed really tacked on. They can't wait to throw Ganondorf into every single story. |

Friend, Portal was a part of the Orange Box. Besides, I felt like the Orange Box was cheating as a "Game" of the Year, as it was no less than FIVE games. How could anyone compete with a five headed behemoth? |

Just to play a little bit of devil's advocate here, I would argue that in FFA games such as EVE you have better means to put smacktalkers and gank maniacs in their place. If someone is talking trash or keeps ridiculing you as a "n00b" or "carebear", get some friends together and set a nice fat trap for them. I've done it more than once. I think this is especially true in EVE, since it lacks a level system, and a bunch of new guys in frigates can overtake more experienced guys in ships that are hundreds of times more expensive. It's tough, and you have to rely on wave tactics, sure, but it does work. By contrast, in a game like WoW or SWG, if said smacktalker is of far higher level than you are, if you try to duel him you will get owned, or if you are similar levels, he simply won't fight. As a long time player of EVE, I do feel that both the game and its players are significantly different from other MMOs, but I also understand that it's not to everyone's taste. In any case, that's my two cents on the matter. |

Not only is Portal part of the Orange Box (as pointed out by others) but it's also part of the half of that box that qualifies for 2007 GOTY; HL2 and Ep.1 being rereleases from previous years. I, too, loved Bioshock... but more as art than game; the story and presentation sucked me in, but the actual mechanics of the game felt tired to me. I can understand it being passed over for GOTY for titles that delivered better gameplay, like Portal's simplicity and elegance for instance. -- Steve |

lol repetition is in almost every video game ever. I mean that's why these games are in a SERIES. All of the Halo games are basically the same thing (run through levels and shoot anything that isn't human). Bioshock was basically System Shock 2. Zelda is simply following a formula that works. Ganondorf ties the games together in a series. Is Master Chief not in every Halo game? |

There's no doubt that Bioshock is an excellent game, but so are the other titles that you called "little fuckers". You're kinda proving the point of this thread; you're ranting is ruining Bioshock for me. Just because you're game didn't sweep the GOTY awards doesn't mean that the other games suck. Man up and deal with it. |

Yeah but the point is that you never hear about Portal as a part of TOB. It's always Portal this,Portal that.I'm 100% certain that Portal got more awards (Feeling risky; will go as far as twice) than The Orange Box. Imo as fun as it was, it was extremely overhyped and just not as good as Episode Two(Overall) or Team Fortress(Overall + Replayability). So here's my problem with Portal. It was good but not great, yet it overshadowed far better games that came with it. PS: Unless the levels will be designed by Chuck/God Portal 2 will probably be a failure. In first one ,the ending parts/Portal mechanics started to get repetitive and if the game was 6-10 hours long(You know just like proper games), it would get extremely boring. |

Yes but there's a difference between repitition and unoriginality. For instance, the Master Chief in Halo 2 is the same as Master Chief from Halo 1, it is a continuation of the same story. He's not a completely different soldier in the future who happens to be fighting the same enemies in the same costume, as Zelda insists. In Zelda, there's a Link in Ocarina of Time. Then there's a Link 100 years later in the Great Ocean of Wind Waker that's the continuation. Then there's this other Link in Twilight Princess who is in a completely different world with completely different problems. I'll even accept that the Tri-Force needs to be there. However, Ganondorf's role in the game contradicts everything else they've told us about him. But rather than drown you in an essay, I'll leave it with this. Ganondorf had no reason to be in Twilight Princess other than to be included in Twilight Princess. There was no continuity leading up to it. He wasn't needed as a central villain. He was tacked on. As for BioShock and System Shock 2, at least BioShock took place in an underwater dystopia which took some explaining. They didn't recycle the Citadel |
Dood, I got killed when a sniper shot me in the head! FIZ PLZ!!!
