Copy Clerk Posts: 72 Joined: 17 Jul 2008 | I used to go with the generic character name for single player games, e.g. Link (or in a WoW induced parody, Linken), but then by sheer chance I hit on Siege, and it stuck. |

I have a cousin who does the same thing. Drives me crazy. I did a comic about it a while back. Image removed by a moderator I usually use Persephone Everett for female names and whatever comes to mind for male ones. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 399 Joined: 6 Jul 2008 | I try to give them a name that fits the universe they're a part of, especially if it's also a reference. My characters in Mass Effect are Jean {as in Jean-Luc Picard) and Lilith (Evangelion ftw). When I get Final Fantasy XIII I'll take a random word that isn't a name and use that, because that's what Square Enix do. |

I need to stop having sex with all the sexy crewmates. But I am such an natural they throw themselves at me. A two year voyage, it happens. |
Paperboy Posts: 39 Joined: 15 Jul 2008 | For male characters Thaimor, Female characters generally something Aimoree, Aimoress etc. On FPS games and online its Shotaro, though spelt different ways $h0t4r0 <old UT/CS version, Sh0t4r0 <gamertag etc. It's Kaneda from Akira's first name (which my screen name used to be but too many people had taken it) |

Copy Clerk Posts: 69 Joined: 19 Jul 2008 | 'Tryzon' is such a wonderously all-purpose title that only it and a few variations of the same thing (Lord Tryzon the Unexplodable, anyone? Loving the ironic names myself) keep me going fine. Plus fewer games give you the option of picking names now anyway, with the machine cunningly using the player account name, but obviously you all know that. I'm just waffling now. Doo-dee-dum. |
Muckraker Posts: 334 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | I useually use 'Mal' for male characters (for obvious reasons), when it comes to women though...I just make a name up on the spot, nothing too specific. The exception for both of these is if I am playing a particular game purely so I can mess around, for instance, one time in Oblivion I named my character 'Boobs' and created a rapeist class for him. 'Are you sure you want to be a rapeist?'...that'll stay with me to the grave |
Muckraker Posts: 268 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | this depends mainly on what movie/book i'm watching/reading at the time.if can get a bow and some arrows in a game,it's Will or Halt.(rangers apprentice reference)however, if it's a crime game i'll call the character Smith.(shoot 'em up!) |
Paperboy Posts: 34 Joined: 19 May 2008 | More often than not (when it comes to online games, or one's where we have to create a character name) my husband and I use our default intarweb personas (crimsnsacrifice and RabidFlea). Occasionally we try to be creative. Case in point: I have this book in my collection called "Who In Hell". It's a "guide" to the people/demons that are residing in hell. My husband and I will sometimes take names out of there. RPG's and the like where the character's have names as default, we use those. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 399 Joined: 6 Jul 2008 | On the subject of joke names, after Yahtzee's Phantom Hourglass review I played Pokemon and named both myself and my rival I say. I say, I say, are you ready to begin your Pokemon adventure? A guy I used to know named his Bellsprout Bellend, but that's another matter entirely. |

I usually name a character the name they are "supposed" to have like Link in LoZ, but if they don't really have one or it just sucks I go for Klaus because I have always secretly wanted to be German or have a German/Dutch name. If pressed to tell why I suppose it'd be because I always saw Germany as a very efficient country and a polar opposite to Laziness, which I admire.
