No, the kid was asking someone to post the Burnout review on youtube so he could steal it for his iPood. |

I really think he was reaching for SOMETHING, ANYTHING to dislike about Super Mario Galaxy, though. The only thing about that game that sucked was the awful voiceover on load... and weegee. |

Beat Writer Posts: 171 Joined: 22 Feb 2008 | Considering he doesn't review games(he slates them in a funny way!), all he does is make me think about games definitely not to get, and considering he takes heavy jabs at games he DOES like (the point of his act), then theres not much credence there either. Theres a difference between reviewing a game and giving your opinion of it, he does the latter. |

IMO they are pretty much the same thing. Although reviews are perhaps slightly more formal in structure and usually assign a grade of sometype. |

I find that refreshing for one, most Reviewers just state the general gameplay and say Yay or Nay, but he actually talks about poor choices in Voice Acting and all the other technical points all the other reviews make such a big bloody show leaving out. |
Paperboy Posts: 50 Joined: 19 Mar 2008 | Normally I agree with him, except for J-RPG's because I like Final Fantasy. He is right when he says that Vann and Tidus both look like cross-dressing women. I saw Tidus in X and just wished he would put on a shirt. The last game where I accually liked the character design in a J-RPG was Shin Megumi Tensi: Persona 3 |

Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | Well, when I first started watching his reviews, he had already released a half dozen (6) or so, and as such, watched all the half dozen (6) or so. Some of those games reviewed I owned, or played extensively, and Yahtzee basically took what i felt about each of those games, and wrapped it up in a nice package of British accent, fast talking, and pure humorous sinisterism. So, yeah, his reviews are accurate. |

Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | I dont agree with some of his reviews mostly how he bashes japanese RPGs, but everyone doesnt have to like the same games I suppose. His reviews are helpful. Im not gonna go and pick up every great looking game that comes out and his review help me decided which one are really Above and Beyond (take COD4) and which ones are just Average (DMC4). |
Paperboy Posts: 29 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | I listen mostly for the comedy, but he speaks lots of truth too. I was glad to hear someone finally pointing out the flaws in games like BioShock and Halo 3 when most reviewers go into ecstatic seizures over those titles. He seems to have a good grasp on the tired cliches and annoying elements of video games, and is pretty good at sniffing them out. Even when I don't agree with him I have to admit he has good points. Sounds odd, I know, but the best example is Mass Effect. He bashed it a lot, but I have the game and love it to death. But he was right about things like A) The combat being wacky and B) The tendency of the characters to open up quickly to the PC (though that's kind of a theme in all modern RPGs). He also admitted that his reflexive dislike of RPGs influenced some of his complaints. Either way, he points out the flaws of a game mercilessly (whereas I've found that many game reviewers these days don't), and that's what counts. I can look at the flaws he hilariously explains, and then I can decide if I can live with them or not. |

He's unbiased and is strong in his opinion, which is something I personally admire about his reviews. I think he reviews it seriously, but in his own way. Therefore, I do take him seriously. His opinion however, does not really affect what I buy. We have different tastes in what we play, after all. |
Paperboy Posts: 21 Joined: 19 Mar 2008 | I listen to his opinion for games, some of them, he points out mostly the comedic flaws and makes them stand out like a birthmark on an albino. He also reviews with opinion a bit and helps me a little with decision to buy a game, but not that much. |
Beat Writer Posts: 216 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | This may sound odd but I don't rely on the reviews themselves as much as the rules he puts forth in said reviews. Allow me to clarify. His review for the Witcher actually changed how I look at games, what should constitute a good game and opened me up to more types of games. He covers a bunch of general rules in regards to games dos and don'ts (outside of mechanics) that are really important. "I would rather be stupid and having fun than bored out of my huge genius mind" This led me to a game that for all of the 'standard' reasons is bad; "Turning Point: Fall of Liberty". It is linear, the hit detection is terrible (nothing like shooting a Nazi point blank in the abdomen with a machine gun and missing) and though I have no problem with it many people dislike the game because it is short. "I guess I don't have the right to complain seeing as I didn't spend all weekend memorizing the documentation." This is all I can think when people ask me how I enjoyed Last Odyssey. While this may not seem to fit the general premise of what I am talking about the quote has a point. Which turns it into a rule for socially interacting with other gamers. "A game that generally feels like work isn't looking at a good writer" For the longest time I would trudge through terrible games for the sake of the story or script (Legend of the Dragoon is a prime off the top of my head example.) But how good can the story be if it feels like work and playing it makes me die a little inside? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 52 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | I bought Portal because of his review and it is THE BEST GAME EVER. GlaDOS is F***ing hilarious. It doesn't hurt that it comes with Half Life 2 either |
Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | Yes I take caution of what Ben says but usually I don't let it affect me that much. If I like a game and he doesn't oh well it's fun to me, and that's what counts. And if he likes a game and so do I well there, more power to Ben. But honestly he should keep reviewing. It's hilarious and it's fun to listen to him rant on about absolutely nothing. He doesn't have poor judgement or anything it's just that he's kind of mean to games. Even if he gives it 5 golden stars he'll still find something bad to say about it. You know minus Portal. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 5 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | I don't base my gaming purchases on his, or any other reviews oppinion for that matter. He can hate this game, and that game or this one coming out and he can tell me that in a funny and also informative way but at the end of the day I've been gaming pretty consistantly since I was five, I've played enough to know what I like and I'm going to buy it reviewers be damned. |
Muckraker Posts: 250 Joined: 8 Nov 2007 | I don't think it ever was his idea to influence others to buy or not buy something, the man states his opinion and we turn it into something greater or lesser. This is abundantly clear from something as early as the Darkness Demo review (To paraphrase: "A demo is made to make me want to buy the game. Based on this demo, I won't"). But the thing is that whatever he says at this point will make no difference. His words matter because the people listen. We think about what he says and discuss his point of view. It matters not whether you agree or not, you're bound to think of arguments why he is or isn't right. He's become the king of subjective reviewing and through that he's also tackled objective reviewing. Through us. |

If I had to say, he focuses reviewing games that are crappy to him to get a audience.
Here an example:

If you look at the one comment BTW you can see one single person telling him to review burnout.
LOL, this is a historical discovory, Croshaw accepts to review a game from one blabbing sheep.
