But all joking aside, I'm not really sure that there have been too many reasonable twists (read: JRPGs don't count) that aren't pretty easy to see coming. Offhand I guess I'd vote the bit in Bioshock with the Ryan confrontation. - J |

Muckraker Posts: 272 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | I didn't see the Baiten Kaitos one. Kalas just seemed like the stereotypical asshole main character that finally decides to help the group out. |

There was a time when any cult movie buff, even with no knowledge of the game whatsoever, could've put that together for themselves. And then followed it with "I heard you were dead." - J |

(I figured out "your" character's origin myself, from one of Suchong's diaries, and the Atlas reveal didn't do much for me.) Mass Effect; the history of the Reapers, and the many other twists that unlocks in the storyline. -- Steve |

Eh? It's the same model with a beard, as well as the same voice. I thought it was fairly explict to the player, if not Raiden, who has never actually met him. |

I know some old text-games have awesome stories, but they're so bloody hard most of the time ~~ A game me and a friend are making (an rpg!) will have the best plot twist ever though! : D |

Actually, I think the best twist in that was when you entered Arsenal Gear and found out that the Colonel was just some bizarre AI program. Since I was only 10 at the time of playing it, it gave me some pretty freaky nightmares. Also, the end of HL 2 was pretty twisty with Eli's death, though I wonder why the Advisor didn't go for Freeman first. Hmm...elderly scientist, or young freedom-fighter scientist who could butcher an army with just a crowbar and his glasses. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 537 Joined: 4 Oct 2007 | There are a bunch of good ones in the Phoenix Wright series, since the entire game is mystery/story driven; it's not just "I have to find a way to do xyz", but "I have to find out what the xyz is going on." So even though I posted that it has some of the WORST plot twists ever in the other thread...it also has some of the best. Although naming them would probably ruin the entire game for some people. |

Actually I did, even thought I was like, 13 at the time. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 711 Joined: 29 Jan 2008 | One problem I had with the Flood that I expected to see resolved in Halo 3: If the Forerunners were so powerful they could shove all the Flood on the Fortress Worlds, why couldn't they just blow those up? Flood aren't jump capable, they would have died in space, rather than blowing the bejesus out of all sentient life-scratch that ALL life EXCEPT the Flood? I still haven't picked up the latest book, so there might be something in there. Also, I really want my theory that the Forerunners were human to be confirmed. |

Paperboy Posts: 15 Joined: 23 Nov 2007 | WWII games as a whole, I just don't know how they keep the ending so fresh and unpredictable, I really don't see it coming... though lets be honest, it would be nice to see the Germans win just once, that would be quite a plot twist. Also Bioshock with would you kindly, brilliant twist, and Deus Ex was good for plot, can't think of any specific events right now, but it was all good really. |

If not... well here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AAzkPkiImo Still my all time favorite game cinematic. System Shock 2's famous revelation was also amazing and paved the way for the Bioshock twist that's already been mentioned here a few times. |

What do you think? Twists that make your jaw drop, that make your eyes go wide and say,"Holy..."
Stuff that shocks, or is utterly brilliant.
The twist in KotOR is a good one, but there are many others...
