That still makes him a clone. Ganondorf is the same thing). I know that they were looking for "evil" characters to help fill out the roster, but come on! Ganondorf. He deserves to be in the game very much, but not in his current fighting mode. He needs his bloody sword! Especially that ornate glowy one from Twilight Princess. Lucario. I've stopped caring about pokemon long before Brawl came out. I know he just got his own movie, and he's kinda the new "hot" pokemon, but there's enough of the friggin rats in the game already! Pikachu, Charizard, Ivysaur, Squirtle, and Jigglypuff! That's plenty! |
Press Junketeer Posts: 429 Joined: 17 Oct 2007 | Wolf O'Donnell and Falco Lombardi. Both are just Fox clones, I thought we got RID of clones? Ganondorf: Exactly the same thing, but with Captain Falcon. Ike: He plays COMPLETELY differently from Marth, but aside the swords size and color, can you HONESTLY tell them apart? Fire Emblem is a decent series and all, but COME ON. Make Lyn a playable character instead! She rocked and looks different from the others! Marth and Ike are just boring, and look like freaking twins. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3675 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | I have to agree with Wolf and Falco. If they were going to use another StarFox character why not go with Krystal, or hells, maybe even Rob 64, instead of R.O.B. |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 15 Nov 2007 | They need to get rid of Mario. I mean, come on, does he truly serve a purpose to the Smash Bros. Universe? All joking aside, I agree with the Wolf/Falco bit, it's a bit much to take from that series and just say "HEY, It's Fox without all the...necessity...or something, you give me money" And we need to relax on the Pokemon thing. I mean, two was enough in the original (not counting the Pokeball item) but now there's just..too many. I realize that's one of Nintendo's biggest staples, but come on. What I wanted to see, honestly, give us Generic Protagonist from the Punch-Out series. Or hell, Ridley from Metroid would be an interesting addition. I can hear the "OP Squeals" now... |
Anonymous Source Posts: 6 Joined: 14 Mar 2008 | I feel that Snake just doesn't belong there. I mean, here we have all these odd looking creatures, with only a few that are humane looking, and are simply just dressed oddly. Snake is the type of "kill" character that would literally kill instead of simply hitting you. I haven't gotten Wolf yet, so no comment really. I do agree that Falco/Fox cloning is complete bullshit. If their Final Smashes had been different, I may have thought differently. But they are exactly the same in every way. The whole Pokemon thing has been completely blown overboard. I can understand them replacing MewTwo with Lucario; but seriously; Pokemon Trainer? That's crazy. I mean, I know they get more money from Pokemon sponsors, but seriously, it's going overboard now. R.O.B. has no attacks worthy of pretty much anything. He doesn't even deserve to be a character. All his moves consist of him blowing fiery shit out of his big metal ass and just waving his hands around. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 517 Joined: 29 Jan 2008 | I disagree on the ROB part. ROB was the main reason why Nintendo first got it's foothold in North America, and helped to launch the Famicom moreso in Japan. He's an icon of the early Nintendo era. He may not play well, but he certainly deserves to be in the game; he's been there since before Link, Samus, or any of the other mainstream characters except Mario and Donkey Kong. I'd personally love to axe Ike from the game. He might play different from Marth, but he looks like a literal clone of him. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1064 Joined: 1 Jan 2008 | Mr Game and Watch. I love him, but he makes that godawful beeping noise, not just when he attacks or does special moves, but ALL THE GODDAMN TIME. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 767 Joined: 1 Jan 2008 | Every single character since the time it became a lot easier to just list the characters that WON'T be in Brawl. (Possible Engrish detected) |
Anonymous Source Posts: 2 Joined: 15 Mar 2008 | Pretty much everyone has a good argument here... except the Ike bit. Ike is the replacement for Roy (a slower, more powerful Marth for the uninformed) and he seems to do a good job of switching things up from Marth's repertoire of moves. Instead of going straight up with his Up+B, he throws his sword in the air, catches it and comes crashing down on his opponents. His B attack has less range and does a helluva lot more damage. His Smash+B is a quick dash in either direction and not the combo that Marth has. I think he was a welcome addition. Other than that, I'm happy with the character selection. Now if only Sonic were better... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3675 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | Okay, I'm sure everyone already knows the difference between Roy and Ike. Great job pointing out the obvious. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 539 Joined: 10 Sep 2007 | Besides, the point about Marth and Ike being identical was directed at Fire Emblem's fetish for blue-haired men as protagonists, as opposed to how they play. Pay more attention. |
Muckraker Posts: 272 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | 1) Falco: OK....Wolf does play a lot differently than Fox but Falco is barely different enough to not be called a plaet swap. Replace him with someone from the Custom Robo series. 2) PKMN trainer: What? We have 3 characters that were items now playable? 3) Ganon: I want something more than a USELESS Captain Falcon wannabee. Other than that I'm fine with how the characters play. Even "clones" like Toon Link are fine. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2826 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 | 1. I feel wolf should not have been in this instalment. I can understand falco, i don't know why people are complaining about him (aside from the same freakin' final smash) but i feel Wolf was just a completely unnecesary character. I think it would have been better to subsitute him with Krystal or someone else. 2. PKMN trainer: Seriously, do we really need any more pokemon in this? We have Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Lucario, and including PKMN Trainer, Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard. That's a total of 6 pokemon. 3 is enough for me (poor pichu though) 3. Ike: first of all, they both look almost exactly the same. Usualy when my friends are just doing a random character and they end up with Ike/Marth, we have to pause to see which one it is (don't know why they don't just look at the names) i would have preffered Roy or someone else besides 4. R.O.B: I like the little robot, but i think he's a bit too out of place here. I could go either way, since he is such a cute little robot. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3675 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | I don't know why people seem to see Ganondorf as useless. I seem to whoop pretty hard just fine with him. |
Paperboy Posts: 31 Joined: 16 Mar 2008 | It's not that Ganondorf is useless, it's that Captain Falcon is better and was in first. If Ganondorf was in the original and Falcon added in Melee, people would probably be calling him useless. I personally hate Wario. He's is cool, but he just doesn't feel right. Change him up a bit and we'll talk, but otherwise, cut him. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 97 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | In my opinion, two definitely don't belong: R.O.B. Yes, he's somewhat of an icon of the NES era, but a Smash fighter? Not quite. Wolf O'Donnell. Maybe the fans adore him, but to everyone else, he's a grey Fox. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 2 Joined: 16 Mar 2008 | Wolf and ike, for all the reasons already stated. Same goes for lucas, just another clone. Personally, Sonic is pissing me off. It was a cool idea, and I think he's a great character, it's just that his final smash is so god damn cheap. :( |
Anonymous Source Posts: 6 Joined: 28 Jan 2008 | All you people that can't tell Ike and Marth apart need to get your eyes checked. Seriously. It's NOT that hard. |

Quoted for teh truths, but maybe that's because I use Ike, and always switch his palette to something else. Why get rid of wolf? I like wolf! If anything, get rid of falco. Clones are understandable, but making the same character to fill up another character slot is unacceptable. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2826 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 |
If anything, Falco should stay. He was in Melee before, so why cut him for someone who's, as previously stated, a grey fox? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6900 Joined: 28 Nov 2007 | I agree with Wolf. He's the only character who I completely disagreed with being in the game. |

Screw Bomberman. Replace him with Simon Belmont! |
Anonymous Source Posts: 7 Joined: 28 Feb 2008 | Ike - Don't get me wrong, I love Fire Emblem, but any of the lords from Rekka no Ken (or just Fire Emblem, if we're not worrying about the Japanese names) woulda been better. Eliwood, as he's Roy's dad, Lyn just because shes cool, or Hector if we wanted to keep with the blue haired thing. That over with, a character I'd LIKE to see. Someone from Castlevania. Simon perhaps. Or if they needed villains, Dracula. |
Beat Writer Posts: 193 Joined: 21 Dec 2007 | Sonic. Everything related to SEGA these days feels cheap and B-rated, and that doesn't belong in a Smash Bros. title. I don't care if Nintendo is being nice to SEGA, letting them produce their crap to the Wii, can't they just let one game be pure Nintendo? Sure, Snake is in it, but you can't say anything bad about him. Besides, the first Metal Gear was released on the NES, so Snake has more Nintendo in him compared to Sonic. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 94 Joined: 14 Jan 2008 | wolf is... ok... krystal would be better. falco needs to go, i only like his throwing reflecter just because it mixes things up but i didnt like him in melee and i dont like him much more in brawl pokemon trainer is just a waste. squirtle is fast and thats it. pikachu is a must and jigglypuff is also. i didnt like lucario for a long time but im really beginning to like him now ganondorf only needs a sword. thats it. like his forward A or some of his aerial moves. why get rid of ROB? the game has not been out long enough (even in Japan) for people to say he's so terrible. tiers WILL change. hehe Olimar was one of the best additions in my opinion toon link? ugh. he's fine i guess. i dont really have a problem with anyone except for falco and PKMN trainer. this game should not be loved in the same way melee was. wavedashing is gone for a reason... the game should be fun, not too serious |
Paperboy Posts: 23 Joined: 15 Aug 2007 | -Wolf should have replaced Falco, and should not be just another Fox clone. Also, it's massive BS that three characters are using the landmaster as their final smash. That feels like a cop out. |
Muckraker Posts: 322 Joined: 18 Jan 2008 |
Yep, we shouldn't change the line-up from melee. No sirree, don't you bother actually making different characters, just keep bringing back the same ones with one or two moves changed. Add one or two more so it feels new and different. I feel that they did a better job of making characters feel different in this one. Even the "clones" don't feel so much of exact rip-offs this time around. However... 1. Falco - 3 characters with identical movesets and final smashes is unneccesary. I only say Falco because he plays more like fox than wolf does, in my opinion. 2. Chalk another one for a change in ganondorf. He has fought in human form for several Zelda games now - surely they could have done better than a palette-swapped falcon move set with some tweaks. Give him that sword, or heck, even the trident! 3. Marth should have been gone. Most all of the franchises represented have their most current versions of characters represented. There's TEN FE games. Marth's from the first and third. Surely, they could have put in a different FE hero, even one who used a sword. Lyn comes to mind... And, um..that's it. I also agree with DaMunky, they should have put in a NON-sword user from FE. |
Muckraker Posts: 237 Joined: 22 Jan 2008 | hey ike totally rocks and his moveset varies it up quite a bit from marth, i like them both, but they are for two totally different things, marth is a technical character where ike is a power character. roy was identical to marth so i'm glad they replaced him i also disagree about the pokemon trainer, he's actually an original character and kind of interesting. snake: has no business in this game and his moveset is designed to hang back and take pot shots at people, the kind of asshole behavior we usually frown upon in gaming. jigglypuff: obvious reasons toon link: a small link is really kind of pointless, i like link but come on we don't need two. i thought wolf was an interesting change but falco is identical he can go away i like the way ganondorf fights honestly but i understand the complaints. olimar: why? he's useless, he sucks, he doesn't belong, get rid of him |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2826 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 |
No need to get all "Sarcastci Sam" everywhere Honestly, if they replaced Falco with Wolf i wouldn't give a damn. It's that they put Wolf in, without cutting him. If they replaced either Falco or Wolf with Krystal or someone who isn't a pilot of an arwing, I wouldn't care, but to me, all of the starfox people are almost exactly identical with some minor differences in play-style. Hell, replace Falco/Wolf with another bountyhunter from Metroid, where's the love for Samus's franchise? |
Reviewer Posts: 20 Joined: 20 Mar 2007 | I cannot fathom why they put these characters I don't like, don't understand or don't want to play as in games... but there they are nonetheless, mocking me. Oh sure, I can (and do) simply choose not play as them, but that doesn't stop their cold, unblinking eyes from boring holes into me from their haughty slots on the character select screen. How can those stygian industry heads sleep, knowing as they do of the cruel fate they've thrust upon me? To play this game, I must be forcibly subjected to the untoward presence of characters I'll likely not use. It's a mark on my soul that will fester, forever unhealed, until the Death's chill embrace finally frees me from the shame of it all. |

I originally wasn't going to say anything, because I don't care for the Super Sash Bros. line at all, but this actually made me laugh... Everyone here got burned, badly! Sorry that you don't like some of the characters in the game you bought, how dare those execs make your life so horrible. How about some truly original characters? Luke Skywalker, or Wedge Antilles even, from Rogue Squadron? How about Characters that haven't appeared in 15 other games? No ideas? Me either, that is why I don't own a Wii! |

Whether your argument is either the frequency of titles on a nintendo console or perhaps the quality of that character's game on the console. Which characters do you believe don't belong on this latest installation of the Smash?
