Cigarettes don't do much other than interrupt a gaming session because I have to go outside to smoke. However, although this may not count, back in my first year of university there was a time when I was living on one of the discount Redbull alternatives. I remember drinking four or five cans while playing Unreal Tournament long, long into the night. Lots of fun. I wasn't intoxicated, but I had to go online to see why one of my eyelids was spasming. Lack of sleep and excessive caffine are the main causes for eyelid spasms. Twitch gaming at its finest. |

Like Burnout. Drunk driving without the tragedy. Or Rock Band. Karaoke at its most terrifying. |

I know that I cannot physically dodge shots with my real-life body, but that doesn't stop me from trying. |

I once did it while drunk, and everyone else was sober. I also lost to my brother who was drunk while I was sober at Gran Turismo. He never took his thumb off the accelerator, and just crashed into the walls to turn. Still good times though. |

Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 12 Mar 2008 | My housemate and I used to smoke a couple of joints and play Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for the GameCube, were we cool or what! I should explain a little, we both seem to have a bizarre gaming OCD where some kind of inane challenge will consume our lives entirely for minutes/hours/days/weeks at a time and then once achieved we have no more interest. For a couple of months worth of Friday nights the 'hole in one challenge' dominated. Congo Canopy, who could get the most holes in one. If it wasn't that, it was Mario Kart Double Dash - we'd completed the whole game, unlocked all the extras including the funny loading screen and so we had the 'Baby Park Challenge', time trials to get the fastest time. Our records hit the low 1 minute 8 seconds kind of mark then found the world record is 1 minute 4 seconds. That made us sad. |

When smoking pot, I like games that make you think. Starcraft is intense, as is any RTS... and Psychonauts high? Don't even get me started, haha. |

It's as easy to get and as abundant as water round here, and I believe in an earlier thread I stipulated how I stand behind it 100% and do not believe it is illegal(in a more realistic sense of the word). I enjoy games like rock band and guitar hero drunk, but probably just as much as I enjoy actually listening to the real band's . My motor skill's while inebriated are nothing to write home about. I've never tried acid, but mushrooms and videogames are a strange mix. I've never stayed in the mood, or had the willpower to actually *play* a game while tripping, but the idea has never came without a very foreboding sense to it. I do have a friend who beat halo on legendary while on an acid trip though. It's actually really annoying, he always brings it up. |

Rez! Excellent game when trashed, couldn't play it for shit but the visuals and the ability to add your own beats to the music are the perfect comedown game... Audiosurf is also excellent if you play tracks like the prodigy or My Chemical Romance (What? I like them, okay?) |

An all night drinking bought where the only winner is he who stays awake longest! We accually don't drink alot. This happens maybe once a year around New Years |

It could be that I try to put some strategy into CoD4 and Halo is just pure aggression, so I'll get a 12 pack and do the experiment again. Oh, and the first time I've ever smoked out I ended up beating Super Mario Kart from start to finish at my friends house. What can I say, it was snowing outside. |

GET OUT OF MY LIFE! Oh, and any split screen FPS in vs. mode is really fun after a case of beer. I don't know how many nights of Drunken Golden Eye I played way back when. We still do sometimes. |

Haha. I just bought Psychonauts this week and wondered the very same thing. Sadly, in Lincoln, England, the police are both keen and quick to grab any nearby dealers and recently it's been very difficult to get hold of any herbs. Once I do, I plan to play that Milkman stage over again. It's both funny and trippy so I think it'd be wonderful. |

The other member was a real-life policeman. I found weed to be something of a performance enhancer in first person twitch gaming allowing intense concentrated immersion...at least it seemed that way at the time. I don't think games are even playable on drugs harder than weed or alcohol. Imaging trying to play Starcraft after taking some Ecstasy, trying to figure out your next move as your eyes roll back into your head and every muscle in your body is commanding you to turn up the music and dance very hard...and then zerglings start to flood your base, the resulting negative emotions would probably lead some to vomit hideously over their keyboards. So no, not planning on ever trying that myself. And yes, playing psychonauts while high as a kite messes with your head. Hard. Particularly the level with the Bull (OMG the pretty colours!). The Neighborhood is definitely the best level to play blitzed... haha. Sucks about the lack of herb man. Here in Nova Scotia, the police don't even care. It's pretty Rad, haha. Another level I'd suggest giving a rip under the influence is Lungfishopolis. Definitely trippy, haha. |

Paperboy Posts: 41 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | I'm quite guilty of picking up my GH/Rock Band axe and shredding up a drunken storm. Rock Band especially so, because I assure you there's little more entertaining than four drunken guys singing a Bang Camaro song into one mic that no one really knows to begin with. Also, when visiting friends at their respective colleges it's almost impossible not to get pulled into an FPS of some sort. In which I'm usually the guy yelling "I'll kill you in real life!" because I've mostly played RPG's and am a pretty bad shot when put up against your average tool boxx0r college bro...and the beer doesn't help much either. Can still grenade like a fiend though. And for some reason, Fishing in Breath of Fire III is also incredible whilst a bit tipsy. Although I'm not sure why. |

The last time I did I drank a bunch of vodka and played Counter-strike.. and ended up 25-1 on my first map. It was almost as if no matter what I did, I was going to be fine. Rush at the entire opposing team as fast as possible? Yep, that was going to work out just fine. |

I don't really remember it too well now, but i do remember being unable to comprehend why the game was suddenly so amazing. i'm not much of a drinker but I remember playing Wow drunk... my tanking was fairly sloppy but i managed to keep everyone alive. Then my friend and I went and had some "smoke". He then played Wow while i played something abit more sedate... Fire Emblem path of Radiance. |

Okay, I understand that this isn't everybody's cup of (mushroom) tea, but does anybody here find they have a particular fondness for playing a certain game or genre while under the influence of anything in particular?
Before the thread starts, I want people to understand I'm neither condoning nor condemning the use of any intoxicant, be it alcohol or acid, and beleive that if you're going to take anything there's a certain amount of responsibility envolved. And remember that if it ain't alcohol or tobacco, it's probably illegal.
Moral obligations out of the way, I'll kick start this one. I don't drink or take any chemical drugs; my father is an alcoholic and pills and suchforth are a risky business to say the least, so I find cannabis is my favourite gateway to mind-altering escapism.
Anyway, I find that when I'm a little giddy, one of the best games to play is Wind Waker. The bright colours, lush music, gentle exploration and exciting combat combine to make one hell of a beautiful experience. Also, weed, survival horror and surround sound are the perfect path to brown trousers gaming.
The XBLA games Boom Boom Rocket and Rez are perfectly suited as well, being both psychedelic and rhythm-based, and Viewtiful Joe's daftness is made easier to swallow with a few puffs too. Ignore the ridiculous plot and you find you can concentrate on the lush cel-shading and awsome movie effects.
Sorry if this post offends people, and I'd like to remind people that every intoxivant has both long-term and short-term undesirable side-effects....but hey, if anybody out there shares the same mindset, what's your favourite gaming experience when under the influence?
