We all love games here but is everyone here actually a good gamer.

I am one to admit that YES i do love games and play them often but NO i am not that great at them. I do a good job in single player RPG's but that is about all. I can only pass action games in normal and i am hopeless at FPS.

I never really got the hang of any of the competitive genres. I am a competent single player gamer but i could never get the hang of the FPS (i also do not enjoy them, maybe because i die to much) and, although i love them, I can never do anything in an RTS quite fast enough to have any use.

Are there any other members here who are not perticuarly good at games but still love and play them avidly?

Do you think you are god's gift to gaming and pwn everyone?

Is it just because i play music, have a good social life (as i am sure many/most gamers like me do) and do not play games all the time that separates me (and maybe you) from people who devote all their time to games like my gamer friends.

Depends on what your standard is. I'm pretty good at SSB, but certainly not tournament level, but I can't even come close to touching Ninja Gaiden.

Good answer :P

I am like that with Soul caliber 3. I can easily beat single player and beat my friends in it (because they never play fighters) but i would die in proper competitive play.

Im pretty good, I'm not one of those people who picks up a game for the first time and is automatically good at it, and I suck at realistic FPSs because I have a slow reaction time, and I die before I can react. Halo and other games with more health and regenerative capabilities I'm good at, but I don't play enough to get as good as some of my freinds.

I am very good at games, not to boast or anything. I have over 20,000gs on xbox and i always go to the hardest difficulty first. atm im going through all bazillion of them in DMC4. i've finished all the pathetic CoD's on Vet, only took a few hours on GoW to do it on insane, I've only got 1/4 of the songs left to 5* on expert on GH3. If you don't believe me my XBL GT is also ' l33tabix '

And towards the sad little ending coment, i've played guitar for 8 years, i have a great social life, my current girlfriend for 1 year and a couple of month (who might i add just bough an xbox to play with me :P) so it's nothing to do with your life outside of the games console. You were either born to 'pwn' or not.

I must agree with the author of this thread. I'm fairly quickly get the hang of controls in RPGs and enjoy the hell out of them. FPS games I'm good at aswell, not in the way that I go thru them in the hardest difficulty the first time but after maby 30 minutes of online play I'm almost unstopable. The really bad thing is that I don't like them as much as say RPG games and Adventure games.

To continue on from my previous post.
I just put in my xbox live gamertag and I'm 8th highest on this site.
So yes, I am good at gaming.

I don't have the time to get that good at games.

I'm good at FPS games, only because I've played so many over the years. but I'm still awful at MP FPS games. They're always far too fast and twitchy for me.

In fact, there are few games I'd say I'm good at in MP. There are so many kids out there who can devote hours to individual games, that I can never hope to even be near that level. Nor would I want to be. I like having a life outside games.

hahaha why thank you. I never CLAIM to be l33t. It's actually a play on words for harcore English gamers. Although many people and clans have taken my name I actually invented it and obviously I pay for it on XBL. I also have it registered on about 20 sites now, I'm just trying to make sure no one else gets it. I usually come up several times if you search it on google also. Imposters use L33tabix.

Weetabix is an English breakfast cereal (called Weet-bix in Australia apparently) so l33tabix is the gamers perfect breakfast.

Currently on mission 3 on DMC4 on Son Of Sparda mode (yes it's only the third difficulty but i only just got my sodding xbox back from microsoft people!)

I suck at games. Suck suck suck. It really torments me to the extent where I take it personally. I think I may have premature thumb arthritis setting in from playing DMC 4 so much.
The worst thing is where magazines and websites say a game is easy to complete ("it only lasts eight hours or so") and there I am weeks later still tghrowing my controller at the wall.

Aphavillain I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL! When you need to get so say a 'Sick Smoking Style' with that sticky wank Dante, your thumbs hurt for at least half an hour afterwards.
I am in the inverse of you though, because I've played guitar for so long I find the guitar hero series far too easy. I 5* most expert songs on first try. So then I have to read full page articles in Official Xbox Magazine about how they can't do this or that song. IT really aggrivates me.......this is starting to sound like a boasting threat. I probably look like a cunt right about...now.

1337bix has been used heaps i have seen. even was used on the only credible gaming show in Australia Good Game.

Do you guys play the Xbox DMC4 because i find the PS3 version quite comfortable to sit back and play. Although if i tried Son of Sparda i would end u in the corner in fetal position. At least it wasn't as bad as DMC 3 i felt bad loosing to the first boss repetitively on normal.
(BTW DMC2 was awesome i don't care what people say and i liked the extremely cold dante)

As for the GH thing i know what you mean. I play bass and find it incredibly insulting the easiness of basslines in GH but they are just put there for a bit extra. In Rockband apparently not even a Rush bassline (Geddy lee respected and skilled bassist) is at all difficult.

Geddy Lee is a fucking god. Some of his fills are completely mindblowing.

Aww you have got to be screwing me, you saw it on good game? In a country that has a de-graded version of the cereal itself. I'm finding Son Of Sparda quite easy, only because by playing through Demon Hunter I have all of Nero's Moves.

Did you know that the voice actor for Nero used to be a power ranger? And he has voiced millions of anime characters english re-dubs?

lol no but his voice did sound very familiar. Do you know if he did "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumia" because the guy in that sounds like a game character me and a friend were trying to work out. We at first thought Raiden but it was not.

I never got into Rush but i highly respect Geddy as a fantastic bassist. The problem is his singing :P

I have not tried Son Of Sparda in the harder parts because my friends has borrowed the game but i may be able to do it easily. Did you find when you first switch to dante he seems weak but when you go back to Nero dante is better. I wish I could use the lucifer more. I just love the Inferno references throughout the game.

Hahaha yeah, Dante's Inferno, one of the best poems of all time. Italian Literature for you. When Pandora's Box is said to take 666 forms I did lol heavily. Even with all the recent claims that it was originally 616.
Go and type in Devil May Cry 4 on IMDB and just follow it to his acting profile. It'll tell you everything he has done.

"Although his mind is not for rent, don't put him down as arrogant, he dives a quiet defence, riding out the days events, the river" I tell you that is some Geddy Lee whining right there.

"The greatest pain is to, in times of sorrow, remember what it was to be happy" some Dante for you. (the poet not the character :P) I need to finish this brilliant piece. Hard to read, have to pay attention to each word.

ANYWAY back on topic is it that people like me are not good at games or that competitive games are measured using only a certain amount of skills that i do not posses. I think it is this way seing as multilayer is usually used in genres which require fast reactions and decisions rather than single player based games which require working out what you need to do and you have all the time in the world (why i love Hitman)

Hitman is about doing it as fast as you can with only one kill. That opera level on the last one can be done so damn quick if you map the path right.

It really depends, a good example is Cod4 yesterday, one match i go about 30kills and 5 deaths with a gun i hate, then the next match against same people i go about 10 and 15 with a gun i much prefer.
It just depends on whether or not i can be arsed to concentrate hehe.

On the topic of CoD4 I used to be pretty good but on CoD's 2 and 3 I had a friend who got 60 kills before every death most times

If you plan correctly in Hitman and carry it out right you can have lots of time because no one will suspect a thing.

COD4 i can get 7 kills before a death if i am very lucky. I can only do this if it is a map where teams tend to fight in the middle and i just flank. Bog can be very goof for this.

See, to thebobmaster. Jordan is damn hard!!! But i see you have a Trigun avatar. Trigun is YET ANOTHER ANIME that the voice actor of Nero did. He was Vash The Stampede (main character) I've seen every episode in Japanese so that doesn't really mean much to me.

I'm never at the top, but I'm not (usually) at the bottom either. I'll settle for mediocre, with the occasional flash of briliance and the occasional brain-dump.

if only COD4 and FPS was more like laser force in real life. I managed to get number 1 against some pretty pro guys in that but that is because people don't pop out of no were.

I think thats my problem i am not aware of my surroundings enough.

Overall, I range from average to very good, it depends on the game (and my mood at the time), but...

-In most single player shooters, I'm pretty good. That is to say, as long as it's not absurdly difficult due to bad design, I can usually complete a game on hardest difficulty without tearing any hair out. I just can't do crazy stuff like this.

-In the few multiplayer shooters I play, I'm just okay 60% of the time, maybe slightly above average, but when I get in the right mood I start to do really well and top the score list. I also tend to do better in tactical shooters, overall.

-I'm above average in most racing games, but still not great.

Speaking of Half Life 2 my friend got that orange box achievement for firing one bullet throughout the whole of Chapeter One
Noe he has to carry that gnome to the end of Chapter Two.
At least I think those are the two achievments.

I want to say I have a quick reaction time, due to playing guitar for 8 years and video games for roughly 14. But in no way do I have the Zen like concentration and reaction times of most online gamers, like some of those kids that can use sniper rifles without zooming in on any fucking system they play on. They're just anomalies, or radioactive spawns of middle America. What I try to capitalize on is my ability to conceptualize and make assessments of any situation at blinding speeds; or in layman's terms, puzzle solving ability. I usually just think of every game as a point and click adventure; where, in Yahtzee's terms, all the choices are "use gun on man."

But I believe my biggest downfall in games is my habit of being overly aggressive and my tendency to over-think. This happens to manifest prevalently in CoD4. I look at the mini-map and judge where my teammates are, then judge where the enemy would be based on the before-mentioned assumption, and then circuitously make my way to where they are. What usually happens is when I try to flank the region where the enemy would be and there is always one prick hiding in the corner on the way waiting for me to walk into their trap. Now, I don't just run in guns blazing - I just would think that it's a fucking retarded idea for someone to hide in a corner facing the opposite side of the map - and walk by the area completely clueless to any danger. If my team is on the north side of the map, these schmucks would be facing the south, waiting for me to walk past them and shoot me in the back, like the little house in downpour. But no matter who you are, the "shoot fish in a barrel" strategy always makes you it's prison bitch.

So basically, I'm only good at a game if I can use a strategy (or a superb knowledge of grenade physics) to outfox my opponents. However, I haven't played a strategy game since I played Warcraft II at a friend's house and got demolished. Seriously, it was like the Mayans fighting Cortez's army.

Yeah, I prefer shooters in which there is actually planning involved, in which the gameplay consists of much more than simply running around until you spot an enemy, then pointing and clicking. Games in which the skills of navigation and communication are almost as important as that of shooting. Operation Flashpoint is a good old example; there's nothing more satisfying than approaching an unawares enemy platoon, easing your squad into position and setting up a firing line, designating targets, then watching the enemy drop like flies as you all open up at once.

I cant say im amazing, but i can say my computer is.

I find that most of my success in VGs is due to my sick nasty computer. However I can pretty much get a hang of a game in 30 min or less and do average at it at least. The only game where ive "PWNED" at was Medal of Honor Allied Assault Breakthrough. and that was due to months of non stop playing which I almost extremely regret.

I am not going to lie. I am a FPS fanatic. Especially Unreal Tournament and the main steam FPS games (CS:S, DOD:S, TF2 etc). and im not going to lie im pretty crappy most of the time but i have my rounds and my moments. Ive been in several clans but never really stayed. I prefer to be my own entity. But the fun part is trying to make strategies and putting them into action and coming up from behind or the side. or getting a fast character and running past before any1 notices. Its all the fun in how u play the game.

Certain games I seem to get a hang of easier than others. like COD4 was easier to grasp than Crysis. and Im not a fan of either, but I played online COD4 at my school only twice and i still am undefeated. I also have Halo 2 for the comp, and same thing. I dont play them much cause im not a huge fan.

Also....i suck balls at all RTS games. The only two i can give my friend a run for his money in is Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, and even then its me fortifying my base and spamming minefields. i love starcraft and I beat it (several times) but then again who hasnt.

So it all depends. I do better at team games where u have to capture points or kill the other team, but do worse in one on one depending. the only thing is i never let up, Im always trying to hinder the progress of the other team with any tools in my grasp even if that means chargung in there with nuttin but an active grenade and 1 second left on the fuse.

But no matter what u do dont play VGs too seriously...after all they are for fun :) and i think as long as ur having fun thats all the really matters and ur getting ur money's worth. No matter what Yahtzee says (im sorry im sorry dont kill me!)

Jack of All Trades, King at None.

As we speak, I have installed on my laptop:
Need for Speed: Carbon (hrm, think I'll uninstall this borrowed piece of crap)
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Hell yes)
F.E.A.R. Combat (WTB more guns)
Guitar Hero III
Oblivion
Guild Wars
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood
The Settlers II 10th Anniversary
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Devil May Cry 3 SE
Constructor: Street Wars Underworld
UltraStar Deluxe (basically a free SingStar for PC)
Theme Hospital
Akatsuki Blitzkampf
Final Fantasy VII
Trackmania Nations

That, and a bunch of games on my DS, ranging from Advance Wars Days of Ruin, to Pokémon Pearl, to Apollo Justice.

Thing is, I'm pretty good at all of those games from the start. I just hardly get any better.
I may play craploads of different genres (and I enjoy it A LOT), but I never take my time to master something. This basically condemns me to always ending up with the better players at a tournament. But I never win from the people who constantly play that one game and nothing else. It's fun though, beating level 55 clan-buddies at a lan-party when you're teamed up with a level 30-ish partner, and you've never played CoD4 before. Completely dominated them, even. Of course, we lost in the damn finals to another bunch of even more hardcore players who knew all the maps and guns by heart, and they've got all upgrades, whereas I only just got level 6 and didn't know how to mod my guns :p

Depends on the game. I'm fair to middling on some, bloody good at others. Can't play sports games for the life of me, bar racing, but can post top-2000 times for some races in Forza 2. Not generally very good at high APM micromanagement in RTS games, but I can usually thrash the AI. Very good at long range high precision stuff in shooters, not so good at the messy up close stuff.
