Also, the story proved that you do not have to have uber-serious characters in order to have a serious storyline. It's one of the few games that has made me actually hate a villain long before the boss fight. The way you learn abilities is pretty cool and is very intuitive. The Trance system is a bit problematic, but the characters overall are fairly well-developed. |

Cloud always seemed the coolest main character IMO. He gives a sort of cold apathetic yet still depressed and haunted character air but i haven't played his game. |

Final Fantasy IX is by far my favorite Final Fantasy game, and the game that introduced me to the series. Crash Bandicoot is always a classic too. and does anyone remember Digimon World??? Such an awesome game. So lame, but so awesome.... haha |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1898 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | The original Gran Turismo was amazing. I bought a second hand Nissan somethingorother, managed to tune the bugger up to 933bhp, and proceded to win outright every race I entered. Though the license tests were awful, it has to be said. And it would be nice to see damage models four installments on. I've gushed about Final Fantasy IX plenty on this site, but what the hey, I'll gush a little bit more. Best of the PS1 Final Fantasies (haven't played the entire series, so I can't say whether it's the best all time FF. But I've got a sneaking feeling...) Spyro The Dragon 1&2. Back when the series was fresh and ungeneric. Proved you could do awesome things with platforming games. Soundtrack to 1 was amazing (composed by Stewart Copeland, he of The Police fame, I was amazed to learn the other day). Shame the series has become so dull. Breath Of Fire 3. Certainly not in the same league as FFIX, but a very worthy JRPG in my opinion. I spent many a happy hour trying to come up with the best Dragon Gene combination (imagine my glee when I stumbled on the Tiamat formation, quite by accident). Some nice themes on the potential dangers of technology, power and the like. Plus, a Weredragon and a Weretiger is such an awesome concept. |

Final Fantasy VII I still play these games today and have managed to get all but Final Fantasy VII working on my PSP. The only other games from other systems from that generation worth mentioning are Rogue Squadron and Goldeneye for the N64 and the 3DO versions of Road Rash and Return Fire. |

So much that i never played any other FF Title for more than a few days. I think I even had a tiny little crush on Aeris, also I thought Sephiroth was the greatest villain EVER. Today, I realize how insanely stupid this game is in some parts. I still ike it. |

However, two years ago, I bought a used PSone and began playing a few of those old games. So far, my most loved games are MediEvil, Spyro and Silent Hill. And since it was in the title question: My most loved game in that generation was The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 76 Joined: 7 Jan 2008 | Resident evil 2 was a game that really messed me up. I was a strapping young lad at the time, and my brother would play it. Id sit and watch in terror as his character was ripped to shreds. When no one was home i would try to play it and then quickly turn it off. Years later, i picked it up again and loved it. Besides that little experience, i loved crash bandicoot and FFVII (but who doesnt) |

This was a great generation of gaming for me. It was the generation i began with. I just started playing PS1 games again, finding out the ps3 could lay them, and i am still loving them.
I was a child so i missed out on some of the greats like the FF games or Metal Gear Solid because of ratings but I loved the old platformers. They were not as tedious as the Mario generation ones and they had a great sense of humor and variety. Currently i am re-playing Spyro 2 and just finished Spyro The Dragon and Crash Bandicoot: Warped. I am also nearly finished MediEvil which i could never pass.
What are your favorites from this generation and why?
