Am i the only one in the world who didn't think it was THAT bad, i'm serious, it gave me a few hours of mild enjoyment. |

I don't know, I just couldn't get past the rock as the main character...there were so many better options. |

Oh no, not another street fighter. Why is hollywood so determined to ruin one of my favorite child hood games!? |

maybe - however, Peter Jackson did LOTR and that was ok, I'm sure he could do something with Zelda. depends on the person behind it. if the 'Halo' film ever gets released we'll see his talent at converting games to the screen. |

Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | Let us pray that we will never see a film of Half-Life. It would ruin everything, and quite possibly needlessly include Morgan Freeman in a film about Gordon Freeman! Besides... how do you script a protagonist with zero dialogue? As for the "Zelda Movie"... April Fool's, in case you're living under a rock. Although I would beg no actual studio to attempt it, either, at risk of ruining my childhood. |

Thats odd and a little sad for you because I just saw the preview for that today... Feel free to cry. Edit* April Fools? O haha very funny you cheeky B@$t@rd$ |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1756 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | Final Fantasy would, and did, make a really terrible movie and Advent Children wasn't a real movie, it was just Fan Wank for FFVII fans (I am one, and I loved the fan wank, but the truth is the truth) I actually think Halo would make a decent movie, if they kept up the cinematic timing, excellent music and the super hero like antics of Master Chief and contained it within the original game (a ring weapon in space guarded by Infecty Zombies is cool). |
Copy Clerk Posts: 73 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 | Assassin's creed could make a reasonable film though it would have to be changed aa bit from what you do in the game. A Zelda film is going to make orphans cry. Half life is like playing in a film and your the main character. There is no way to make half life in to a film. Halo could of made a film but it would have to span all 3 games. Essentially game storylines are to slow for films to follow so film makers throw in a lot of extra's to fill the time. Imagine Crysis for example which is a planned film by the way. You are compressing 10-12 hours of game into a 90- 120 minute film. Also you get the worst possible actors and directors for game to film adaptations (tomb raider being the exception) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1755 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | If anything, the IGN trailer reinforced my belief that Zelda (along with any other videogame) should never be turned into a film. Ever. Even if making such a film were to end world poverty. |

Adapting a game for a movie is not easy and therefore require someone that appreciate the subtleties and ethos of the game. The script writer might not have played the game previous to being asked to write a script but this is unimportant in my opinion. The most important factors are; there is appreciation for the game, a willingness to be true to the game while being creative and not to think of the movie as just another popcorn flick just because the story derives from a game. Often film makers put too much emphasis on action and stunning visuals whilst neglecting the story line. If you have a game with good action and stunning visuals but lacking a good story line; you can enjoy it because you are in control of a significant amount of the game play. If you have a film that lacks a good story line but tries to compensate with action and visuals; you will easily get bored because you will no doubt at some point say to yourself 'I could be playing the game right now and it would be a lot more entertaining' |
BANNED Posts: 22 Joined: 17 Aug 2007 | First of all, I think a Zelda movie really has potential, and I think the IGN trailer actually hit that potential. I don't understand what people don't like about it. Ignoring the so-so visual effects (Which were way better than what I expected from an April Fools prank, and TBH, not THAT terrible at all) the point of a movie is the plot, not the visual effects, and the trailer basically made it fit. It felt like a pretty cool movie to me, a good director could totally make something out of that. Secondly...Silent Hill wasn't all that bad...I liked it. The ending was annoying though, but the atmosphere was dead on. Oh, and Aspen Subie, have you even seen Doom? Because the Rock wasn't the main character, Karl Urban was. The Rock was just the main guy that the trailer focused on, so I'm guessing you watched the trailers, and decided you knew enough to make judgements on the movie without actually watching it. Though it really wasn't that good. It wasn't atrocious either. Anyone who thinks Doom was horrible needs to watch Alone in the Dark. People really overreact on things. If a movie doesn't blow their mind, it's the worst movie ever. Not true. User was banned for: Zero Punctuation: Mailbag Showdown. (Permanent) |

Super Mario Brothers was AWSOMENESS SQUARED. You take your lies and slander elsewhere, you... you... something something! On a more serious note, have you watched the Resident Evil movies? Sure, they arent epic oscar worthy filmmaking, but they do stand on their own as action movies (I was never one for the games myself), and they use the video game quite well. |
Paperboy Posts: 30 Joined: 2 Apr 2008 | i've seen some good gaming films, but then again, i'm not much of a film critic. although i'm really happy that i've never seen any film by Uwe Boll (whoever/whatever gave him the idea to make gaming movies should be hung, drawn and quartered), although i have a feeling it'll change in the future, seeing as he's making Far Cry, and from what i've seen, the storyline is nothing like the game. nevertheless, i'm still interested and i'm going to watch it. though i've got a feeling people won't agree with me, i'm not very keen on the GoW film idea, simply because: |

This would indeed be a horrible movie series... but it might not be abad mini series. You know, like 20 2 hour episodes or something. Ninja Gaiden. Again, make a decent mini-series, but not a good movie. |

If you are going to chop up a quote down to one sentence, please attribute it to the proper person. I think a CGI zelda COULD be done well (Live action, not so much), considering theyve made LOZ cartoons. I did forget to mention: Silent Hill wasnt fantastic, but it definently wasnt in the trash bin with 99% of the other video game movies (Uwe Boll anyone?) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 540 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | I can never help but be optimistic whenever I hear about a movie adaptation of a game I like, so a Half-Life, God of War, or Mass Effect movie all sound like awesome ideas to me, even though I should expect shit. Hopefully they would at least be like the Silent Hill movie, pretty decent. And btw, that Zelda trailer had me going before I noticed it was posted April 1st. That had pretty damn good production value for a prank. |

I liked Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. It wasn't great, I liked it. And the problem with Halo is that it's already been made. Twice. The first time it was called "Aliens". The second time "Starship Troopers". |
Press Junketeer Posts: 413 Joined: 20 Sep 2007 | Game movies aren't doomed to be crappy from the offset, it's just that one of two things happen: Either they have some weird idea that the movie has to stay as close to the game as possible, which automatically makes it crap because no matter what type of game it is, a game needs lots of padding between story elements, most of which is tedious, silly or both (from a story perspective). There's a general concensus in Hollywood (or at least there seems to be one) that gamers is a demographic of stupid lil' kids who are too stupid to understand anything more complicated than a Bond villain who want 80% of the screen time to be gory action. Then again, there ARE people who argue that the plot in... Resident Evil say, is brilliant, so maybe they're right. My point is that if a serious writer made a serious attempt to write a movie script, using the source material as more of a backdrop than Da Law, and a serious director was brought in then I do think it would be possible to film... I dunno, BioShock say, and make it at least a 3-star movie. That said, with the present concencus, BioShock shouldn't be made a movie : P "Am I the only one who actually enjoyed Final Fantasy: Spirits Within?" It was an incredibly cheesy movie, with annoying stereotype characters, a ridiculous dialog and a plot so bad it could bruise fruit. It had one saving grace in James Woods' General Hein, the only person who felt like actually acting a little. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1756 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | The Spirits Within would have been okay Sci-Fi had they not tacked the FF logo onto it, that alienated regular movie-goers and pissed off gamers because we expected something different. I still say Advent Children is nothing more than FFVII fan wank though. In fact, studios should avoid RPG's in general. I'm in favor of Zelda being made into a movie, why? Because baring all of the Temple Hopping, Ocarina of Time and/or Twilight Princess both have pretty amusing plots that could easily be condensed into a 120/150 Minute movie. Overall though there is no real reason to make a Legend of Zelda movie, I mean, Zelda's shining points are its puzzles, not its story. |
Paperboy Posts: 45 Joined: 3 Nov 2007 | I actually wouldn't mind a Half-Life movie, so long as it didn't reuse stuff covered in any of the games. The Seven Hour War springs to mind as a fertile place to make the film. Gordon is in stasis, so we don't have to deal with a crowbar-swinging mute, and the actual events of the war could be depicted at something like a 2-1 time ratio (no, I don't mean the movie should be shown at double speed. :P) Still, the Seven Hour war would make a better game than movie no matter what. In fact, seven hours is just about the right length for one of those episodes Valve is so into these days... |

god of war, f.e.a.r.(even though if done right it could be really scary...maybe or just another silent hill), i would say doom..but they did that and it was atrocious, halo..but they're doing that. basically any fps is grounds for a crap movie.
