Alas, I am a mere sissy boy that at the time had an especially hostile relationship with the Christian church as imagined as a giant blob of unilateral evil. In all honesty, I don't know if I would get half as much glee out of it now. But it was a really solid game that rewarded dedicated thievery and who cannot appreciate that? |

It was the first video game I got into, so originality wasn't an issue. Now, it has been cemented in my good graces by nostalgia, and no amount of logic or even better games will displace it as my favorite game of all time. EDIT: Xenogears and FFT occupy my #2, and #3 spot, so I think they deserve a mention. |

Parasite Eve's the only survivalish horror game I've ever liked (prolly because it's more sci-fi than horror), and I just love Frontier 2's timeline. 100 years of in-depth history over three generations, I've just seen nothing like it since then... |

Kinda hard to do that. It's quite rare and expensive. I do have a demo of the original game, and I played that a LOT. I tried to go back to it recently but was quickly bored. I immediately knew how to do most of the missions, removing the challenge. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 64 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | Xenogears I think I play RPG's for a different reason than a lot of people do. I play for the story. Xenogears, to me and most likely only me and two and a half other people, had some of the most riveting and heart wrenching stories I've ever seen in a game. For once I was exposed to an RPG where the characters actually grew up as the game went on. They came to realize that the world isn't as easy as "You're evil now die" and "I'm good because I'm supposed to be good." No no...when it starts they are all essentially "good" in their own ways and in their own eyes. But it's when they're contrasted with each other that they realize the world is sooooo much bigger than their internal struggles. Oop, the rambling stops NOW! |

I LOVED that game, I spent ages looking for it, it was so hard to find, even during the PS1's heyday. I eventually found it by chance, and still play precinct assualt today :) |

Beat Writer Posts: 169 Joined: 27 Sep 2007 | Legend of the Dragoon without a doubt. I'd probably still play it if my friend hadn't lost the 2nd disc when I lent it to him years ago, damn him. FFIX (my first ever FF game) and Spyro 3 (my first ever PS game) deserve honorable mentions as well. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1898 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | Final Fantasy IX- simply put, it is made of pure awesomeness Spyro The Dragon- best platformer ever (including Psychonauts). Breath Of Fire 3- not as godly as FFIX, but still pretty awesome. (Currently playing IV atm, have to say, not as impressed). |

Mine would have to be Crash Bandicoot 3. I always really enjoyed the series; it had none of that "run-and-jump around in giant levels collecting stuff" gameplay that the N64 was flogging to death after Mario 64. Just simple, straightforward stages, with variety, re-playability and a decent challenge. Plus some terrific graphics and animation. Couldn't ask for much more.
