You don't exactly shoot anything, you just place portals. If we're talking ergonomics then I'm sure the device is just like that to provide people a familar setting. I guess people could argue that you 'shoot' portals, but that really is stetching the definition of 'shooter' to the limit. I mean, the game is solving puzzles and you just happen to do it in first person mode. I'm totally with the whole FPPG, although that does seem to needlessly sub-classify something. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1174 Joined: 3 Mar 2008 | Yeah... I'm not saying that it's one or the other... but many people seem to consider it an FPS without bullets. It is a cross, but it's more puzzle, in my opinion. |

Muckraker Posts: 292 Joined: 27 Mar 2008 | genres are decided by multiple conventions not just one If the definition of a first person shooter was simply a game in first person where a gun is all that is seen of the player most of the time then it would be an FPS but FPSs are more than that so it is a puzzle game. |

It might be. I don't really know where it's from, other than it's Doctor Who. If I'm honest, I nicked it from someone else's avatar on another forum. :) Oh, and who voted FPS? I want to see them justify that choice! |
Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 7 Dec 2007 | Puzzle. There's no shooting. Therefore, can't be an FPS, which is defined by that verb. An FPS without bullets is Heretic. An FPS without shooting is non-existant, because otherwise we'd have to call The Elder Scrolls series one (and technically, that'd pass the FPS game if you take spells or archery). |

Sorry, many people seem to mention this, but I would like to know what you consider Portal more to be.
A lot of people consider it to be a Puzzle, and many consider it to be an FPS without bullets.
I consider it to be both, but this poll isn't about that.
It's what you consider it more to be.
Anyways, happy gaming!
