The Mako in Mass Effect, the Tank section in Crysis and any vehicle in Just Cause, especially aircraft (slowest fighter jet ever)

end of halo one
unnecessary bumps in the road, few checkpoints, risk of getting stuck in random places, and on top of pillars
My #1 favorite console shooter. But that section was a hunk'o'junk
HOWEVER, it was WAY better than having some lame boss fight, i Loved how halo didn't really have that. The way it's meant to be.

ps. if we're talking PC games, then driving in operation flashpoint got old quick.

Personally, I found the most annoying vehicle section in the PC version of Red Faction, but that's mostly due to technical constraints. It does predate even the Xbox release of Halo, y'know.

As for consoles, I've played Prey, The Orange Box and Quake 4 on the 360, and out of those Prey needed the most work. Mostly because the 'exit' button on the shuttles was the same as the tractor beam, and the fact that you kept your momentum when you left the shuttle.

That means if you were trying to move into position to use your tractor beam and passed over a landing zone, you might end up falling into an abyss.

Huh, hmm sense you're ... attached to your X-box i'd say avoid getting Midnight Club EVER! the drivings fine but the mid game boss will drive you up the wall with his God like vehicle stats while you always seems to finish out of 1st place.

Also i was in a love/hate relationship with the Swampskimmer in HL2 i almost couldn't believe how long it draged on while being considerably fresh for a FPS type game while being a lil jerky about drifting one way when you wanna go another.

I'm a pc kind of man, and there's no point shelling out hunderds of pounds for a 360. What's pissing me off most though is game companies have started moving away from the PC platofrm, look at Halo3, mass effect, The force unleashed... hell even the first release of Assassins creed. It's kinda getting lame.

I loved the racing bit at the end of the halo games, most were piss easy at the hardest difficulty if you knew how to recover from falls and rolls.

Has anybody drove a CUSTOM vehicle in counterstrike 1.6 (the floating boxes with controls)? now THEY were a pisstake sometimes XD.

Also come to think of it, Half Life 1 the train section lol, that was pretty annoying.

I thought i had mentally blocked those, thanks a lot, thats 5 more years of therapy! But it wasnt just the car sections (though they were controller through the tv annoying) but the last sections where your niobe and you have to drive the ship through the tunnels ... you didnt see the posts, walls or damned sentinels until it was too late cus for some reason there was an eternal fog underground in the post apocalyptic real world how convenient

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. The truck in WW, I mean, seriously, the game had vehicle physics but you hardly play with them, and when you do, it's like 200 meters of no action, nothing. You can easily just walk all the way, it won't make much difference.

Ya the hl2 boat section was teh ghey, once you go the auto canon tho it was just bearable. The driving in crysis sux the cars "handle like a fat man on a unicycle" aside from that most driving sections ive plaid have been ok.

Not true. The patrol boats were well done in both games, quite fun. True to the rest though.

Not enough trains, yes. Worse than that however, is the bullshit limit of 8 cars, and the weight impacts of such a small "train" on the engines they gave us. Modern railways use trains that have reached up to a half-mile long, a single engine being able to pull at least two dozen cars of any form.

Speaking as someone who had no trouble at all with Mass Effect's Mako, when I say that I found that HL2's airboat (and hot rod) handled like a spastic emu on a frozen pond that should have some meaningful impact.

However, as I've said before, it may be that HL2's vehicle mechanics were designed for mouse & keyboard input instead of the dual analog inputs I was playing on.

Half Life 2- Beautiful game. I actually liked the Airboat section.

But the buggy? Sweet monkey jesus, there's a vehicle which is like shoving your face into a blender when you try and trun and- oops, I hit shift. Now I lose control and do a 180 spin.

Argh.

Controlling the vehicles in Halo:CE was murder. Accelerate/brake with the cursors and steer with the mouse? Didn't suit me at all.

Half-life 2: I enjoyed both the Airboat and Buggy and the Sports car in the latest, I don't know where the hell everyone else's problem is...(PC GAMER)
Crysis: I didn't find it difficult to drive the tank but I did hate the jeeps...
Battlefield 1942: Flying is Awesome and I'll always run for a bomber or fighter
Battlefield Vietnam: Planes are admittedly very difficult to do well at flying, but I pwn in a helicopter
Battlefield 2: Teh Awesome in all Aspects
Battlefield 2142: Although I have a joystick it's just plain easier to fly the Gunships with mouse and keyboard....Air Transports don't require much ability....Love the Type-92 Hover Tank in it

As a sidenote: Consoles were invented for those that couldn't afford to get themselves a computer, correct? However for the same cost of a PS3 you can make a computer that runs better than it.

Anyone here remember Battletoads? That's all I have to say about vehicle sections.

The first time I played Half-Life 2, the vehicle sections were brutal. This was mostly because I had been playing Mass Effect a lot and was really used to the steering on the MAKO. Second playthrough of Half-Life 2 was a lot better, though. I agree with most people that the airboat was worse than the car. The controls were pretty useless on that thing.

I found Mass Effect's MAKO to be really easy to drive (except on really steep hills...that was agonising), but it required a lot of patience. About half the game was just driving from point A to point B on random planets, and most of them didn't even have any vehicle-based combat to break it up. Mildly maddening on subsequent playthroughs...

Ive played the 360 version of HL2 and the PC version the driving sections are equally horrible regardless of the control scheme in use.

I really disliked the driving section in Gears of War.
It was really unnecessary but more so it simply wasn't any fun.

Probably Mass Effect. It sucked when you'd get stuck on something.

halo3 ending - just copying the first game's - fucking lazy
mercenaries - last mission your tank needs to last the whole level when it dies in 3 rockets/enemy tank shells. the path you have to take has a lot of tanks, rocket infantry attack helis, tow hummers and i think rocket turrets. at first you have 2 assist tanks but after an objective you have to go solo
PGR3 - slight tap and you do a 180 full speed ram on an opponents car - no effect

Really old vehicle section I hated: the part where you have to fly the carpet out of the Cave of Wonders in the old SNES Aladdin game. Man, I could never beat that thing; it literally took me months of trying.

Then of course I replayed the game two years ago, and did it the first time. Man, how things have changed.
