Muckraker Posts: 337 Joined: 24 Nov 2007 | Personally, I found the most annoying vehicle section in the PC version of Red Faction, but that's mostly due to technical constraints. It does predate even the Xbox release of Halo, y'know. As for consoles, I've played Prey, The Orange Box and Quake 4 on the 360, and out of those Prey needed the most work. Mostly because the 'exit' button on the shuttles was the same as the tractor beam, and the fact that you kept your momentum when you left the shuttle. That means if you were trying to move into position to use your tractor beam and passed over a landing zone, you might end up falling into an abyss. |

Also i was in a love/hate relationship with the Swampskimmer in HL2 i almost couldn't believe how long it draged on while being considerably fresh for a FPS type game while being a lil jerky about drifting one way when you wanna go another. |

What's pissing me off most though is game companies have started moving away from the PC platofrm, look at Halo3, mass effect, The force unleashed... hell even the first release of Assassins creed. It's kinda getting lame. I loved the racing bit at the end of the halo games, most were piss easy at the hardest difficulty if you knew how to recover from falls and rolls. Has anybody drove a CUSTOM vehicle in counterstrike 1.6 (the floating boxes with controls)? now THEY were a pisstake sometimes XD. Also come to think of it, Half Life 1 the train section lol, that was pretty annoying. |

I thought i had mentally blocked those, thanks a lot, thats 5 more years of therapy! But it wasnt just the car sections (though they were controller through the tv annoying) but the last sections where your niobe and you have to drive the ship through the tunnels ... you didnt see the posts, walls or damned sentinels until it was too late cus for some reason there was an eternal fog underground in the post apocalyptic real world how convenient |

Paperboy Posts: 43 Joined: 16 Dec 2007 | all CryTech vehicles are shite Mass Effect's vehicle sections are awful driving in Jsu Cause was a pian in the ass too and why so much hate for half-life's driving sections? they weren't that bad! |

Not true. The patrol boats were well done in both games, quite fun. True to the rest though.
Not enough trains, yes. Worse than that however, is the bullshit limit of 8 cars, and the weight impacts of such a small "train" on the engines they gave us. Modern railways use trains that have reached up to a half-mile long, a single engine being able to pull at least two dozen cars of any form. |

Speaking as someone who had no trouble at all with Mass Effect's Mako, when I say that I found that HL2's airboat (and hot rod) handled like a spastic emu on a frozen pond that should have some meaningful impact. However, as I've said before, it may be that HL2's vehicle mechanics were designed for mouse & keyboard input instead of the dual analog inputs I was playing on. -- Steve |

Sweet monkey jesus, there's a vehicle which is like shoving your face into a blender when you try and trun and- oops, I hit shift. Now I lose control and do a 180 spin. Argh. |

However for the same cost of a PS3 you can make a computer that runs better than it. |

Anonymous Source Posts: 8 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | The first time I played Half-Life 2, the vehicle sections were brutal. This was mostly because I had been playing Mass Effect a lot and was really used to the steering on the MAKO. Second playthrough of Half-Life 2 was a lot better, though. I agree with most people that the airboat was worse than the car. The controls were pretty useless on that thing. I found Mass Effect's MAKO to be really easy to drive (except on really steep hills...that was agonising), but it required a lot of patience. About half the game was just driving from point A to point B on random planets, and most of them didn't even have any vehicle-based combat to break it up. Mildly maddening on subsequent playthroughs... |

Paperboy Posts: 31 Joined: 5 Mar 2008 | Really old vehicle section I hated: the part where you have to fly the carpet out of the Cave of Wonders in the old SNES Aladdin game. Man, I could never beat that thing; it literally took me months of trying. Then of course I replayed the game two years ago, and did it the first time. Man, how things have changed. |
