If this thing is delayed release in Australia I'm gonna either go violently crazy, puke or cry. Maiden could get away with delaying tours to Australia. Schafer cannot.
j-e-f-f-e-r-s: This game looks awesome! They've got Lemmy doing voice-work. Lemmy! The only thing that could make it any better is if they have the final boss battle set to 'Fear Of The Dark' by Maiden. Or 'Orion', by Metallica. Now that would be amazing.
I have to disagree. While Fear and Oion are songs that would be perfect for the game, they wouldn't be the best Final Boss battle songs. For that, we must look at things like The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg, Holy Wars...The Punishment Due (anyone who calls it just Holy wars is only referring to half a song), Hero's Return, In My World, or even, dare I say it, My Spirit Will Go On. Real epic Metal.
How is Orion not epic? It was written by Cliff effing Burton for crying out loud.
Duh-duhduh-duhduh-duh-duhduh-duhduh-duh
Oh, and if we're going for really epic Maiden songs, why not 'Paschendale'?
"Blood is falling like the rain It's crimson cloak unveils again The sound of guns can't hide the shame And so we die in Paschendale!"
Saskwach: Seconded. I also can't believe I missed the Maiden concert. I don't suppose they or any other classic metal band are coming (back) to Australia, soon?
Well, I could tell you, but then Bruce Dickinson would kill me. He made a big deal about something happening soon, but safe to say they will not be leaving Australia out of tours for a while.

Fucking awesome, amazing, epic tune.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I generally don't find something that I get bored during the middle of "epic". (Thats Orion, FYI)
And to Paschendale, I must answer "The eye of the triangle smiling with sin. No passover feast for the curse of within.
Facing the sun as they went to their grave. Burn like a dog or you live like a slave. Death is the price for your soul's liberty. To stand with the Cathars and to die and be free."
But I still want Breeg more, as it would be great for an individuals final battle.
Indigo_Dingo: Or do you mean the story of the development?
I'm pretty sure he meant the story itself. Personally I love it. It's just the kind of silly, tongue-in-cheek justification for a metal fantasy realm that's needed. A mystical belt buckle? An axe that tears people apart and an "axe" that "shreds" them to pieces? Massive amps? Headbangers, groupies, roadies and a giant road trip of war? Wait, I've gotten off-track. We can't say much about the story yet, but I like the setting as can be seen above; it seems a great excuse for all kinds of metal tropes and references, and some great fantasy action-strategy fun.
Saskwach: These people are disqualified from the human race.
Thats hardly fair. Although as I have yet to acquire the necessary time to play Psychonauts, I really couldn't say.
I was exaggerating. Still, I refer to my Tim Schafer paraphrase for anyone who decides not to like Brutal Legend (because I can totally tell how good a game will be before playing it): "You might hate Brutal Legend but only if you don't like metal and hot rods and blood and action and humour and fun."

Change all of those ands to ors and it sounds right.
Terramax: I was excited until I found out Jack Black was voicing the main character.
The reason why I play games over watching films at the cinemas is to avoid giving money to these overpaid actors.
Uh... yes. Right on. I'd be watching films all the time if it weren't for those pesky actors. It's because of them that I force myself to put up with playing games, instead.
I think they dropped the ball on this, getting Jack Black. He's a fine actor (I thought he was good in Be Kind, Rewind) but he really doesn't epitomise Metal the way some other people do.

True, but he is the most "metal" person who will want to put the effort into this. And you have to admit that the guy has got a sweet voice.

I doubt it. They got Axl Rose for San Andreas, I don't think they should have any trouble with other people, as Axl should be the most fucked up person on the metal scene (or in all of music, with what happened to him)

Can you imagine Axl voicing Eddie Riggs? That would be absolutely amazing.
"Welcome to the jungle, motherfuckers!" Cue Riggs stage diving straight into a crowd of monsters, and beating them to a bloody pulp because they had the nerve to bring cameras with them.
Oh, and if we're still suggesting final boss songs, how about Holy Diver? After all, they've got Ronnie James Dio doing voice duties, and it is an epic song.
The problem I see is not so much that Jack Black was the most metal guy they could find but the most metal comedian they could find. This is a comedy after all.

Eh-Uhh (or whatever that sound that means wrong is). Jack Black is nowhere near the most Metal comedy guy, that honour would have to go to Brendon Small. I mean come on. He's far more metal, and arguably funnier. Plus, he is definitely more familiar with brutal voice acting.
If you don't know, Brendon Small is co-writer, composer and one of the actors for Metalocalypse, and does all of Dethkloks (and Snakes and Barrels's) vocals.

I was going to say "Who?" until you explained, and I still have the urge to say "Who?" People with even less metal knowledge than me- more than half the audience that DF are hoping to sell to- would ask the same question. If you were to say "Jack Black" the odds are much better that they'll know what the fog you're on about.
I doubt that. Dethklok holds the record for the fastest selling debut Metal album (I think thats the record, its along those lines), they have a relatively large cultural influence.

If not - "The guys that did Thunderhorse".
Fastest selling Metal album =/= well-known actor and comedian from King Kong, School of Rock, etc.

Well known actor from School of Rock, King Kong, various other things =/=Metal. If he (Schaffer) was going for popular above everything else he would have stayed with Lucasarts.
And I think you mixed up your mathematical shorthand there. =/= means "Does not mean" or "Does not equal". You were looking for <, meaning "Less than".

No I was looking for "does not equal", used in this case to represent the unmathematical idea that one was on a different scale than the other. Mr Small is known amongst the subculture of headbangers and adult swim viewers. Mr Black is known pretty much across the board. Though I could have been more accurate in my mathematical meaning that wasn't the point. Your points are confused. Are you saying that if Jack Black does things that aren't metal-based then he has nothing to do with metal? (Oh god we're into arguments over "the real metal". Metallica will be mentioned very soon.) Or are you saying that he isn't as well known and popular as the genre itself? In that case, neither is Brendon Small. This argument is useless though because at the end of the day JACK BLACK IS BETTER KNOWN. If you seriously try to deny this I will lose all respect for you. And while Timmy may have left Lucasarts for "the music (games)", from what I've read of him and his thoughts on Psychonauts I doubt he'd be against making money when it doesn't compromise his vision. Jack Black does not compromise Mr Schaeffer's vision of making a funny, tongue-in-cheek game about metal, but he does make it a bit easier to bring in the casually interested.
