Playing a clan match in Day Of Defeat (WW2 based Half Life Mod). I'd been tasked with holding the sewers on the map dod_kalt. I'm happily standing my ground, no enemies in sight, when somebody on my msn friends list signs in and an alert window pops up, and all of a sudden I can see through every single wall on the map. Apparently it was a well known bug, but it was the first I'd heard of it. It only lasted a few seconds, so I didn't feel too guilty about shooting the guy trying to sneak his way though.

Allegations that I then convinced everybody on my friends list to repeatedly sign in and out are of course entirely unfounded.

Assassin's Creed always has a few good ones... It's a pretty buggy game, though the bugs rarely detract from the gameplay.

Any time I am ever killed... Ever... Always a glitch...

Okay, time to be serious.

Once my I was riding a mount in WoW... Suddenly I fell into the ground so far that I actually appeared in the sky and began swimming through the air at jet speeds... Whoosh...

I had a huge glitch on Oblivion.
I fell off the ledge in the sewer area and i fell through the grate in the floor for some reason.
Then my character was just swimming around in thin air
had to reload it because there was no way back out after that.

I haven't played this game myself, but the Riverdance-glitch was pretty awesome ^^

I think the strangest glitch I've seen is in StarCraft. I had a bunch of drones stacked on top of each other and then gave one of them a move order on top of a cliff that had no ramp. The drone flew up there ^^ And after that it continued to hover up and down. I've managed to get it to happen more than once too : P

I remember playing World of Warcraft once where someone was buggering up the sound system and sending out random voice clips into the speakers and headphones of every player currently online. Playing a Tauren wandering along through the Barrens, I was scared out of my skin when I heard the instantly recognisable Warcraft 3 voice clips ''Ey you, catch!' and 'Take this, ye bastard!' Five minutes later I realised that no, I wasn't being hunted by Dwarves, there was just some dickhead doing things he shouldn't have been doing.

Whether it was the actions of an experienced hacker, an extremely coincidental glitch or a GM who had had too much to drink, it succeeded in making one player run around at top speed for a very long time thinking that he was being stalked by level 70 dwarves. Thanks a bunch.

You can run at FULL speed? EGAD! I thought there was only one run speed, not including walk... I must explore this phenomenon...

Oh, did I say Tauren? I've played several different characters; I sometimes get my stories mixed up.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone purgatory.
I opened up a save file (I think I was in the Great Hall) when for no reason I find poor Harry stuck in some weird alternate dimension. It has some weird space-like backdrop, and a grid on the ground (Wish I had a picture) Harry could move and cast spells but that was it, an alternate ending to Harry Potter!

Tony Hawks PRoject 8 had a good one where, if you hit just the right spot on a ledge, you could just rotate and flip indefinitely, but your score would contunue to get bigger. That sure helped when I was attempting some of the higher point related acheivments.

But Half Life 2 has had the most irritating glitches. In Nova Prospekt there was a door that I needed to open by pressing a button. I'd press the button, the door would open, then it would close itself. I don't know how many hours I wasted wandering around trying to find out where to go. A quick look at a walkthrough, a quick load of an old checkpoint and BLAM, the door stayed open and i was free to progress.

And another one in Episode 1 has left me unable to play the game due to frustration. I had done the whole game using only the gravity gun and I had got to the bit where I need to escort the survivors to a train. This lady kept telling me to go back for more survivors, but none were coming out of the door. It was very irritating. So i tried loading an old save like I did above, but due to poor save management I ended up back at the beginning of the whole fucking episode. Colour me ANGRY!

I fell out of a dungeon into an eternal fall once in WOW. My internet went down for half an hour during a dungeon run, and when I logged in again he was just falling through the sky endlessly, and dying recurringly. Thats about when I said fuck it to the game.

Someone should write a book based just on that. I'd buy it. Harry Potter and the Beta Room

I've fallen through the floor quite a few times playing Morrowind.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R has an awesome glitch where the other stalkers sometimes get too cold or something and walk into the barrels of fire to warm up.
I've not seen it happen but if you leave a few sitting at a camp fire and come back later there's a good chance one of em will be dead inside the barrel :P

There was a neat glitch in the original Tomb Raider where you could jump between certain walls, made one particular block pushing puzzle so much easier.

I was playing Tony Hawks 1 on my PS1 years ago, and I jumped, did a trick, and landed on the edge of the bowl. The game glitched at that point, and I could only rotate, and there was no way to get off.

My personal favorite was in Ratchet & Clank 2 When I was playing a cage match in the arena and fell through the wall of the cage, I was then free to run around on the walls of the arena listening to the sounds of my opponents getting killed by flame stones and whatnot. Once they were all defeated, everything went back to normal.

In Turok back on the N64 we found a great multiplayer glitch. If you stood in front of a teleporter with barely any health and then got blown through it by a rocket or such, you would come out of the other side with 0 health, but still be alive. And now you were invincible.

Another one was on the old GTA, when playing on a LAN we found a glitch where if you got knocked of your motorbike while still firing (or something similar, it was a while ago) the bike would stay standing. And if after that the bike got blown up you would die even if you were no where near. We turned this into a great mini-game. One player hid his bike somewhere, and then had to prevent the other player from finding it. However that player was only allowed to kill the player by destroying the bike and wasn't allowed to shoot the defender.

This.

I can imagine that... as for me i've had several.

Oblivion on the 360: Snuck into a guys house in the imperial city and his butler kept talking to me after i left the conversion (this kept going for about 2 minutes). another glitch in the same city: Walked over to the Mystic Emporium (Spell Shop) and the front door was locked at Noon!

Bioshock: During a scene in which your powers get all screwy (for those of you who think this is a spoiler fear not that's as far as I'm going) the screen gets choppy.

Army of Two: on the Aircraft Carrier leve, I'm taken down and needing healing. my-oh-so "clever" A.I. partner decides to heal me in the open. the afghanistan level: again taken down. But i'm in a perfectly safe area and my partner drags me in the open again to heal me!

I was playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and I quicksaved my game while I was taking cover during a fight. I was killed, I reloaded, and now I was suddenly stuck inside the cover unable to move. I got lazy about saving in multiple slots so I had to load one from quite a while before and do it all over again.

Fallout 2. The trunk of my car following me around, while the front half of the car did not.

World of WarCraft: Awhile back when I had an ATI card, occasionally (prob less than 10%) when I logged in - I have NO idea why but I could run a good bit faster than everyone else. My whole game client ran faster. Timers on buffs would count down faster than they should. While this did not affect my global cool down or cast or attack times, I could still run faster. I could keep up with epic mounts on a normal mount, or leave them in the dust on my epic. GMs were unable to find the cause, so I promised when it happened I'd reload until it was normal, which is did. After changing to an NVIDIA card, it hasn't occured again.

Grand Theft Auto: Not entirely sure if it's a glitch, but I assume it is. But sometimes when I would beat the piss outta the guy leading those chanting groups of "GOURANGA!" guys and then ran around and bumped into the second guy they'd all then follow me around, still chanting.

My old roommate was playing what I believe was X-Men: Legends or something (it's been a while). He was going after an item in some out-of-the-way back corner because he needed to get every item in the game. The puzzle for reaching the item required a specific combination of characters and their powers (again, I forget the details. I think you needed someone to fly Nightcrawler someplace and teleport both of them). Enroute to the item one of the characters inexplicably fell through the floor and died. This led to another hour of us intentionally trying to make characters fall through solid walls and floors. Fun was had.

Had my fair share of fun with that one. Believe it was Ctrl you had to hold down ..

GTA SA for the ps2 where when on a mountain bike, one could hold down square and keep pedaling, the characters legs would get warped and stretched. Also some of the npcs sometimes spawned as mirror images of my character.

Oblivion dupe glitch on the 360, filled up the tub in the back of the secret basement of the haunted house, the one you can buy for 5000 gold, with potions. Touching the potions was a bad idea, since that made the game lag like hell.

Raibow Six Vegas shield teleport glitch. Enabled the host to teleport around the map after some fiddling with the shield and the cover system. Not to forget the seldom but annoying invincible terrorists in t-hunt.

THUG i was just free skate'ing and ollie'd and suddenly i'm riding along, i can grind, i can manual, but ....

my character was floating like he was on foot, standing still, and his skateboard was sideways, not under his arm, but through his crotch and out his butt.

I got off the skateboard, and everything was fine, he was running like he should, jumping, holding on to ledges, etc.

then i get on the board again and the glitch came back, with the crotchboard. i also noticed that when i spine'd a ramp, i went through the bottom of the map, and kept falling.

I flipped around him, nailed him in the head, rolled around a little more, somehow, he got stuck on the tree in the room with his sword out. found a way to jump onto his sword and hit him though.

My two biggest; GTA Vice City, I was trying to get a bike inside a building which I'm sure I managed once or twice by pushing the bike so far into the doorway in front of me that the game loaded inside the club. One time however I tried to exit the club and just passed straight out of the door. The floor was made up of all the tiles of the club and the character got stuck in invisible objects which I assume is where buildings were.

Secondly, Assassins Creed. I'd just dived into some hay to escape some bad guys and they ran round the corner and stopped. They stopped looking for me and started to head back to where they came. That's when one of them went from the ground to the roof of a two story building in a single jump animation. His friend did exactly the same thing and they both jumped off the building with the same animation. Funny stuff.

This one's fun... Try it at home if you can.

In an attempt to research what does and does not damage each of the ships in BF1942 myself and my roommate tested every possible attack on each ship, and tried to locate weak points. It was found out that if you explode dynamite on the hull of the submarines they do take damage...

HOWEVER!...

It was also found out that dynamite placed on specific zones of the submarine cause the vessel to launch forward at speeds greater than the aircraft can attain... Also, if you're standing on the top of the sub when it's detonated, you go for a ride with it, or get thrown off, depending where you stand. Six engineers detonating the explosives in groups of 3, repairing the hull between each launch, can send the sub all the way to the enemy carrier before the frigate could reach it.

Oblivion: I exit cave. Where is horse? Horse falls out of sky and collapses in ragdoll death. That was abnormal.

Crysis: I climb a ladder. Upon reaching the top, I instantly DIE.

Best glitch ever. NWN2 died as soon as I cast Polymorph Self and got stuck as a polymorphed Mindflayer. Played a good 70-80% of the first chapter as him (convos usually knock you out of polymorph, which was why it was so fun!)

Back when i used to play Tony Hawk on my PSOne, there was a certain glitch that kept you in the air, circiling around the ramp. I used it to get massive points :D!

Vice City- The in-game cutscenes can really be used to your advantage. I managed to drive a Cadillac straight through the scene, killing the guy I was supposed to take down anyway.

Oblivion- Not all that high on the weirdness scale, but I was running around the Imperial City with a detect life spell on. Suddenly, I noticed that there was someone *under* the street. Curious, I turned on noclip and walked through the pavement to find a guard treading water underneath the map. When I tried to talk to him, my fame was high enough so that I got a response like "Oh, I know who *you* are..." I was rather off-put by the fact that the guard living under the street sounded like a crazy stalker.

Oh, and Lucien Lachance once spoiled a big dramatic scene by appearing one night in my character's room, half-way through a cupboard. Rather ruined the effect, especially when he tried to leave.
