This has been said already but I'll say it again for good measure, Hideo said that the fifty gig blu-ray disc he was using was not big enough for his vision of MGS4. The 360 uses a DVD disc that only holds 7-9 gigs of data, meaninging you need at least five discs, which is more than a little unwieldy. This along with Kojima's loyalty to Sony makes a port practically non-existant. In addition to that MGS4 is a system seller the same way Halo or Gears is, so the argument that it will be ported because no one has a PS3 loses some of its merit. As for Sony paying of Konami, yeah that's possible, but in given their history it is not likely. It is just not something they do very often, as evidenced by the fact they did't throw piles of money at R* or Capcom to keep GTA and DMC exclusive.
Indigo_Dingo: Dude, there is no way. Its just not possible. Here I'm talking about the information on the disc that is the game itself. An HD DVD disc can hold 30 gigs tops, right? Hideo maxed out the game at 49.7 gigs. Plus, Motion sensor plays a large role, or so the rumour bin would have us believe.
We may see Metal Gear Solid 5 on the 360, but thats only if Hideo wants to. And i'm just guessing, but I think he has a loyalty to Sony.
Now I don't expect MGS4 to come to 360 and don't really care but I'm calling bullshit on 49.7 gigs. How big is Crysis? 12 GB. You cannot tell me that MGS4 is really, truly using that disc space and couldn't cut out a whole bunch of it. This sounds like one of those bullshit quotes Sony isn't against making for the sake of point scoring. When people ask why MGS4 won't be ported to 360? Oh, it's too massive. That's right this game is too big for that pathetic machine.
Hideo himself said it, and i think he said that even the Blu-Ray was too small for his vision, he had to cut out a lot of the stuff he wanted in. I'm inclined to say its true. And you could, hypothetically, cut out some of it, but then what would be the point of porting it? Cut out most of it, and it will be a lacklustre adventure with poor graphics, stupid AI, and way too short.
I'd imagine a lot of the space would be used on cutscenes and lengthy, lengthy exposition. I've never found the MGS games to pack too much of a WOW factor graphics-wise. They are good looking games don't get me wrong, but there have been games that are visually better on the system.
When I went from playstation to xbox, I was afraid the game lines I was playing wouldn't be on it, MGS was one such line, if it isn't on the 360, I will miss it terribly.

Methinks most of that 49.7Gb is gonna be cutscenes. Don't get me wrong, I loved MGS, and mostly enjoyed MGS2, but Jesus, the amount of cutscenes and lengthy Codec conversations drove me mad. Especially running through it the 4th or 5th time. I have no doubt that it is gonna be one hell of a beautiful game, but how long are you going to be sat just watching it, getting blinded by bloom-lighting effects?

Long enough for me to drink in the awe inspiring plot and cinematography that makes Hideo Kojima a revered Director and Writer. Yet again why it wouldn't work on the 360 - It has plot.

I think I speak for the Escapist when I say that we have had enough of your blatant console insults. This is a place for intelligent conversations with a theme of videogames, not for flinging waste at your hated companies. If you want to talk about the 360 please make it constructive and less "fanboylike"
If you want to insult a pile of wire and plastic why can't you do that whithout insulting those that bought that pile of plastic and wire.

Grr. Stop rubbing it in. I've accepted that it won't be on the 360, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. The only way I'll be able to get a PS3 is if I sell my 360. There is NO WAY, I am having all three consoles of a gen again, not at these prices.
And as for the awe inspiring plot and cinematography, I'd be completely sated with a graphic novel. These have been the only games I've ever bought like books - for the sake of plot and nothing else.

Agreed. Thank you Fire for putting that so well. We get that you don't like the Xbox Indigo. The cheap shots aren't needed now.
As for the whole it couldn't fit on the Blu-Ray disc. When I read about it in a gaming mag they said it sounded like another of Hideo's stunts. Complaining about it for one reason or another, whether as an excuse for the games lateness or just hyping what we all know will be another game a grand scope and artistic vision. Or just some pretty scenes and lengthy pretentious dialogue if it's not your thing.
As for it coming to 360, I would love that as I don't want to spend a load of money on another console to play one game. But i think it is unlikely. It is supposed to be an exclusive. One that Sony will feel they need to keep console sails high.
Why do you guys(majority) swallow Hideo's bullshit anyway? 50gb is a shit load a space.I will not believe that Hideo managed to fill it all up, even if he purposely tried to.The guy's probably hyping up his own game.
Assuming(hypothetically) that the game would fit on 1-2 DVD's(9.5gb-19gb of data),can you come up with any other reasons as to why MGS4 couldn't get ported to 360(I'm talking technical. No "Hideo is teh Sonyz Fanboi" BS)? Are 360-owners not smug enough?(j/k)
Saying that, the game probably won't come out on 360 anyway.

Actually, it seems to be only you who is feeling this. Previously I have been praised for my fair and balanced appraisal of all three consoles, and the combined Issues. It might just be you affecting me, making me get defensive.

There isnt going to be an MGS 4. Didnt MGS2 hit to you that Hideo wants to go on to do different things? He tried to alienate his fans with weird mindscrew, but that didnt work, so he's making one last magnum opus, then I'm sure he'll make it very, very clear that it's the END of the SERIES. Why cant folks just let a good series be laid to rest before it becomes tired and shitty? why must we bilk every game for all the sequils it's worth? Well, MGS will not be raped in this fashion.
Thought i read somewhere that they got that 50 GB due to someone insisting on using lossless audio. Anyway mgs4 on xbox, no way. OT: I hope this game is less like the last MGS and more like the old ones, might even make me pick up a ps3.
was reading stuff on the internet that kojima thinks that ps3 hasnt sold enough units which means that there wont be as many sales as he origionally intended so if it doesnt hes thinking about putting it onto 360 where there is a good number of sales to increase figures
its the internet so its not exactly concrete evidence would be nice though just think il have to go and save up for it
If Kojima did manage to fill 50 gigs, expect 32 hours of cutscenes in 40 minute blocks. In any case, I'd really like there to be a port. But it isn't going to happen and I'm not shelling out the cash for a PS3. MGS4 isn't coming to the 360, but somehow I'll make it through life. Somehow.
This whole thread is starting to remind me of nearly every thread on the official Ace Combat 6 forums where 90% of the posters never played the game because they own a PS3 and are pissed about the lack of a port.
And I think we should all take into perspective the fact that the game hasn't come out yet and we're all talking like the game we haven't played is brilliant and will single-handedly save the PS3 and doom the 360. MGS4 could turn out to be another MGS2, and I hated that game so much I became physically ill (luckily MGS3 came out and soothed my rage).
never will happen because sony and kojima Productions own the rights "as well as Nintendo aka BRAWL, so don't expect to see MGS4 with a 360 logo on it any time soon. p.s., even if did it would not fit on a single disk because it takes up the whole blue ray "50 gigs"

20 gigs is apparently audio but don't quote me on it and if u want to play MGS4 mooch off your friends, thats how i beat Halo3 with no 360
kojima said that he wasn't going to release it on 360 or wii because he would rather design a game specifically for those consoles so they are better suited for the audience. and even if the sales are poor, i'd imagine sony would pay a lot of money to keep it exclusive because it would be a huge blow to ps3 if it went multi platform. personaly i'd be really pissed off if it did go to 360 because if i knew it was going to i would have got a 360 rather than ps3 and saved myself £100. and i've just realised that i'm effectively paying £140 to play 1 game. it better be good!

It's not just him. Disliking the 360 is fine. Taking humorous potshots at it ever now and again is okay. For the last week though, most of your posts that I recall reading have had blatant Sony fanboy written in the liner notes, and this isn't the place for that type of thing.
Kojima always states a loyalty to his "Long term" fan base rather than any specific system. He asumes that most fans of MGS, which previously appeared on Sony Systems primarily, will keep buying Sony Systems, if for no other reason than they expect Metal Gear Games to keep coming out on them. If he were going to change systems my guess is he would tell his "loyal fan base" from the get go, at least, that's what he claims he would do.
Also, the 360 isn't doing so great in Japan, still, and the triumph of Blu-Ray over HD has increased PS3 sales immensely. That and the PS3/MGS4 Bundle is almost a garaunteed system seller. A 360 Version at this point is extremely unlikely, the best 360 fans will get is a "MGS2 Substance" style port about a year or two later.
I imagine that MGS4 staying console exclusive will sell some more PS3's to offset the fact that it is playing third fiddle in the console race. However, I call bullshit on Blu-Ray discs being too small. Most of it is probably going to be devoted to interminable Codec conversations and self-indulgent cinematics. I love the Metal Gear Solid series, but I think that Kojima might be getting a bit too big for his britches.
@Dingo - I second tiredinnuendo in saying that you need to chill with the 360 bashing. Owning a PS3 doesn't make you better than anyone else. Making a jab from time to time is cool, but these constant putdowns are getting old.
