Omega wasn't in FF7... 8 and 10 yes. As far as FF7 goes, Ruby was the biggest pain in the ass. As hard as Emerald Weapon was, Ruby Weapon made ol greensub look like a L1 goblin. |

Me and my friends have many, many memories of spending the summers of the end of the 90s trying to kill that hag. I mean, on Banjo-Tooie the whole 'final boss = insane difficulty' theme had been resolved, as (despite the end boss being a giant digger) it was surprisingly easy. However, Gruntilda, with her 4392423 stages, horrendously accurate shots and her God-damn omniscience makes her one of the hardest end bosses to beat, ever. Especially for an 11 year old, heh. |

But the hardest boss for me would have to be the two demon walls from Final Fantasy VII or the final boss on The second Final Fantasy game created for the Gamboy Advance. (He was the guy on the moon. The bugger...) |

I'm tempted to say a section in HL:Blue Shift, where playing on Hard without a save to fall back on for some reason, I had the pistol only and 5 life, and had to turn a corner to face 3 marines, and spent an hour trying to do get the 5 headshots or so required on each before they squeezed off a single shot. It may not be a boss, but it felt like it. So I'm going to have to go with the Shin Akuma boss in Capcom Vs. SNK 2. Ive never seen a life bar go down so fast. The Liquid Kasumi in DOA4 is a close second, cause of the ridiculous spinning monstrosity that takes half your life, and the randomly dodging by teleporting behind you and killing you move. Though I had a friend that seemed to have a pretty good system using Ayane. |

For those of you unfamiliar with the battle it goes like this: He launches 4 homing orbs at you at a time, which have a pattern of shooting themselves at you for a short distance, stopping, and then changing direction so that you're in their path. They stop twice - once when Wily's saucer launches them out, and then again after flying at you. The third time they fly at you, they fly off the screen if you miss. They're tough to dodge, even if you know how to dodge them, as you have to trick them into giving you space to dodge them. After launching the orbs, Wily slowly teleports, giving you enough time to fully charge a shot (it takes about 32 fully charged shots to beat him. By comparison, you die in about 5-6 hits). You can only hit him once every time he appears. |

(You know, the one that is in those dark labyrinths where you have to run for your life and press buttons, and then right after in this mini-colosseum type where he runs after you and you have to blast him with like...75 magnum bullets?! At the mean time he can slice your head off with 2 hits and you're done for.) |

I'd prefer to mention something a bit more up-to-date, but thinking back there's only two bosses that have ever causes me to quit a game for a long period of time: MM4's finale- the very first incarnation of the Wilyporter- and Agron from Final Fantasy Legend 3 aka SaGa. For the latter it's a combination of suddenly losing Dion, your 5th member, the annoying maze leading up to it, and the sheer power of the boss' attacks, some of them surpassing the 999HP cap. The final boss of that game was actually easier than Agron for me (28k HP versus 45k, not a huge difference). At least then you have a 5th member and the best healer in the game, plus your airship sporadically helping you out to boot (why doesn't that happen in more RPGs? It was cool ATT). I was young when I came against the former, but he remains to this day the 2nd hardest Megaman boss, a battle based mostly on pure luck and how much Pharoah Shot and Ring Boomerang energy you had left. |

Hear hear! I beat him too.
I've gotten 5 stars on 95% of all Hard songs, beaten Slash on Expert and gotten to Concert number 6 on Expert. But do you think I even stand a chance at beating Lou on Hard? No f-ing chance in Hungary!! |
Anonymous Source Posts: 4 Joined: 11 Sep 2007 | Quick question... Does the Blitzball match in Final Fantasy X against the Luca goers count as a boss match? (The first Blitzball match obviously, not the ones later which are ridiculously easy) If so, that's it. If not, then the horse guy from Ninja Gaiden for me, second or third boss, I can't remember... I never did figure out how to beat him but apparently my 11y/o cousing did it in no time. BTW guys, i don't think it counts as a hard boss if you are talking about the FF series (or others like it) and saying that a boss is hard at level 35 or so. If you can get to level 99 or at least significantly higher than 35 (without grinding for 38 years) then it doesn't really count, I think. :\ |

Just my opinion, but I think that the question refers to bosses that are hard on Normal difficulty. Those harder ones are put there to challenge advanced players. |
Paperboy Posts: 11 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | This isnt a boss but I hate it more then any boss in a game Ive played ever. I hated trying the ambulance missions (especially in original vice city, but also in san andreas) I would have had 100% for vice city if I had been able to get past the ambulance side quest, and what sucks is my ambulance tips over on the beach on my way to deliver my VERY LAST patient to the hospital... I havent played vice city since. |

The Chykka thing or whatever... The Larva stage was the only hard part. And let me add the Level 2 alien boss from Metal Slug 3. Almost impossible. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 77 Joined: 9 Apr 2008 | I think that Emerald and Ruby Weapon count, because they are still almost impossible at max level. By that criteria, you have to exclude all games where you level up, get more skills, or in other ways, improve. For example, theres plenty bosses in MMOs that I would say are legitimately tough, and I don't think there disqualified just because you could come back 10 levels later and destroy them. On harder difficulties, I think the difficulty can be made exemplary, or perhaps a seemingly easy boss might become a lot more difficult then expected on a greater difficulty, in comparison to the rest of the games difficulty. |

Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 13 Mar 2008 | Definitely the Doom Dragon at the end of Golden Sun Lost Age. I know it's sad to use a boss from a turn-based game, but that guy killed me so many times using the same fucking super-powered attacks multiple times in a round. The only way to beat him was to grind levels until you got an equally super-powered healing spell, and then make your healer sit around healing every single turn and hoping to god her magic didn't get sealed. Because if you didn't, even once, you were totally and genuinely fucked. Again. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 3 Apr 2008 | The boss at the end of Hurricane pack 2 of Ninja Gaiden... or various missions in NGB if you never got the Hurricane packs. The chick with the whip... you had to use "sploits" to beat her... on any difficulty. Uh... I will second (3rd?) the guy who said Lou on GH3. Hes retardedly difficult. I used the Hyperspeed cheat and have managed to beat him once and only once on hard... If your crazy enough to play Lost Planet on Extreme or whatever... the first missions boss is pretty much impossible. Though thats not so much being difficult as it is being cheap/frusterating. Oh I almost forgot... Alpha 1-52 from Dead or Alive 4. OMG! What is it with Team Ninja in destroying the hopes and dreams of the fans of their games... The only way to beat her is to play her continuously and hope you get lucky... |

Now that you mention it, most King Of Fighters bosses only have a total of three moves, all of which kick the everloving crap out of you and are super-cheap. |

Okay, so I haven't played the game in years (somehow lost my copy), but I distinctly remember the rediculous difficulty and eventually just cheaping out and using a hero potion (or whatever it was called). |

Me and two friends sat in front of the tv for freakin hours on rotation with no luck. Oh and im currently stuck in the final tier on hard in GH3, not really a boss battle but goddammit. I can do cliffs of dover almost perfect but trying to do the other three songs is beyond me. |

Should have waited three days. He dies of old age. Also, I'm going with Graven, in Conan. He's an absolute and complete arsebandit, has about seven stages, can easily wipe you in a few hits, has all sorts of minions around which gradually become more dangerous as you lose your spells, and which can stunlock you to death, and has numerous QTEs included which either cause instalose or massive damage (they're reasonably doable, but harsh if you fail. |

I totally agree. I was like 12 years old when I first played that game. I got all of the Jiggies, all of the Jinjos, all of the... pretty much everything. Then I got up to her and couldn't beat it no matter how many times I tried. Just a couple of months ago actually I was playing N64 and after like 10 tries, I finally beat her haha. |
Paperboy Posts: 48 Joined: 28 Nov 2007 | Hmmm, well it's hard to speak about past bosses when I'm currently experiencing such an epic hate-on for "Mildred" the final boss from the "new" PS-2 fighter "Arcana Heart". Despite some people claiming that the fight isn't that bad, I personally think it's the worst fighting game boss I've ever seen, and I've seen some cheap ones. >>>----Therumancer---> |
Paperboy Posts: 29 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | Well this is my first time posting, but I felt like posting my opion on the matter. I've fought many of the bosses that have been mentioned, but I honestly think these are the hardest. So here is my top 5 hardest bosses. #5: The last boss of Chaos Legion. I have too Admit, the #5 spot is really low on my list. It is a hard fight, that drags on for a long time, but i just don't recall it really handing me a lot of trouble. It was hard, i learned the patterns, and figured out the tricks, and it was still pretty hard even then. It was a test of skill, the entire game was just not something I took to, so I struggled with almost every boss. The fight was harder on the higher setting, but I still beat it, and I never even had too go and get all the stuff in the game. #4: Megaman Juno on hard. This one might just be me, but for some reason The last boss of Megaman Legends just kicks my ass. I don't know why either. I know his patterns, I've fought him an insane number of times because I love the game, but Juno just always beats me down. I beat him fairly easily on the normal and easy settings, but he is an honest challenge on Hard mode. Again this might just be me, but that's why this is my list after all. #3: The Nightmare Mother boss on MegamanX 6. This boss was horrid. Evil. The greatest abomination too man and god that I have ever witnessed. The boss is 2 giant squares. Each one takes up a full screen, meaning the entire field of battle is about 4 screens. Not only do they rotate around the room, but drop stuff on you, and while they are shooting at you, is the only time they expose a weak point for you to attack. I had to go back and get all the health tanks and heart items in order to stand a chance of beating this boss. This was all on Normal tho, I do not even want to picture in my mind what horrors the boss unleashes on you on the higher settings. #2: The 3 face boss on Dante must die mode on Devil May Cry 2. This boss beat me repeatedly. On the other diffculty settings the boss was not overly hard, but on this hardest setting it is the only boss that gave me trouble. He was very tough, but I did manage to beat him. I had to completely change the way I was fighting him in order to win, and had so many healing items that it was not funny. I might just be retarded but he kicked my ass enough too earn the 2nd place. #1:The Last boss in Drakken Guard's 5th ending. I don't know how many people have played it, but I will honestly admit, it is more than i could handle. It seems easy when you have the concept down, but it gets harder and harder, then blitz you and... well I had to use a trick in order to over come her at last. But that is just me. Some people might not think it too hard, but when I see a post of someone beating her effortlessly, then I will submit, that she was not really that hard. |

Fire, I think you've mixed up your Zelda games. Oracle of Season's last boss was this guy who could only be hurt by you swinging your sword around (your power attack), which took time to charge, and he ended up using the female you need to save as a shield, which you had to knock away using the Staff of Seasons, or something along those lines. Oh, and my hardest boss would've had to have been 343 Guilty Spark... no, no, I joke. It's Sephiroth in KH2. He had a move which made you down to 1HP, and no MP, and then used to Meteor move which would most likely hit you. Add to that, Donald and Goofy sit on the sidelines, watching like a couple of lobotomised chimps. Bastards... Edit: Some guy beat me to my joke... **mumbles something inaudible** |
Anonymous Source Posts: 3 Joined: 28 Apr 2008 | I would have to say I experienced the toughest fights playing God of War 2 on Titan mode (I borrowed the game and I bet my friend I could be the hardest mode as my first attempt at the series.) God damn Theseus can 1-shot you with random spawning aoe glaciers and the 2 minotaurs he summons can 3 shot you if you aren't careful while you avoid Theseus' missile attacks. Man that fight tightened my response time. Needless to say, I felt satisfied pounding that fat bastard's head in the doorway after dieing to him for 20 hours. But the hardest part would have to be the endurance run of titan mode. While not a boss persay, it was a 10-20minute part of the game that took me a good 70 hours at least to beat. |
