Gone Gonzo Posts: 3039 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | Halo2PC - Didn't buy it, couldn't. Fucking Vista exclusivity prevents it from running on my PC. Halo3 - Not even half as good as the hype. Hellgate London - Fun for about 30 minutes, then you've seen it all. To a lesser extent, Starcraft. I like Starcraft, but people hailed it as the next best thing to a ****job from Angelina Jolie (back when that was worth something), and I found it paled compared to Total Annihilation. Fable sure as hell didn't live up to its hype. The Lost Chapters fixed a lot, but what Molineaux (sp?) promises and delivers are as different as Night and Cheddar Cheese. World of Warcraft - I truly don't see the appeal. |

Case and point; Ghost Recon Advanced War fighter and Rainbow 6 Vegas. I went in expecting them to blow me away when in fact they bored me to tears. |

This man knows what he's talking about. I remember spending hours trying out different mods, new units, etc. I still have TA on my laptop, along with the Absolute Annihilation mod. Personally, I find that the Final Fantasy games are over-hyped, FF: Tactics being an exception. |
Paperboy Posts: 20 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | Assassin's Creed was one of the most dissapointing games of all time. It had massive hype, and was meant to be the greatest game Ubisoft had ever made, but turned out to be utterly mediocre (see Yahtzee's review for more details). |

You can really tell that Infinity Ward jumped the console shark with this one. They could at the very least try to tweak it for the PC. Bought a week after release for $45 and sold it on Amazon used for $40 a week later. At least I only lost $5. Nothing makes me mad like half a game for full price. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 439 Joined: 6 Feb 2008 | Boiling Point: Road to Hell. Had alot of hype pre-release, but was a buggy mess; that I tried to get into many times (to justify buying it) but could never play more than an hour before giving up for weeks Medieval II: Total War. Its not a bad game, but im just rather tired of the formula the game (& the whole franchise) inevitably falls into (build cities, build armies, blob opponents/be blobbed by opponents). Could never get into it the way I got into Rome. |

Halo 1 was good, granted, but the others were just mediocre' said someone up the page who i know/ care little about wtf everywhere i go all i hear is halo is s**t etc yet everyone who plays it/ has played it will tell you halo1 brilliant halo2(online) brilliant halo 3 good. the fact ms decided to overhype them dosent change that halo2 was the most popular xbox live game from the last series of consoles, and while halo3 isnt jaw dropping its still good and within the past six months its online has been tweeked constantly towards player enjoyment. So my question to anyone who reads this is . Why is it cool to sit behind the bike sheds with the cool kids and say yeah its a s**t game the fact it has 200,000/ 300,000 players online a night means absoloutly nothing??? |

Wow, really!? I found it to be one of the best in the series. Ah well, to each his own. The biggest disappointment I can remember was City of Heroes. After hearing about how awesome it was going to be, I got it when it first came out. It was fun for the first few levels, then it started to get insanely repetitive. I'm sure it's much better now, but I'm too hooked on LotRO... |

If I had a cookie, I would give it to you. Since this ^^^ quote completely erased my whole post (should have known better)... I'll just sum it up. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 62 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | Yeah, Fable was probably the biggest disappointment I've had. After that, Black & White 2. Hm. Both games come from Molyneux... interesting... "Oh, I LOVED how I was an adventurer, but I wasn't allowed to walk off the flipping road!" YOU NEVER HEAR THIS. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 6 Joined: 14 Feb 2008 | Twilight Princess, because it ripped everything from OOT. Seriously, hunting down 4 ghosts was fine in OOT, but it's not exactly something you'd love in every game. They even stole the final ghosts doppelganger ability. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 17 Apr 2008 | I have halo 1 and 2 on PC, not having either Xbox and I found them to be pretty good. I don't play them on mutiplayer (not liking sniper rocket spam fests much), but when I played through them it was sort of a let- down. The minute I got into the story it was 9/10 through the game and the next level was the conclusion. They aren't bad, but they aren't as good as everyone (it seems) says it is. |

Oh, they MUST be doing it to be cool, there could be NO other explaination then that. Grow up. |

Yay! One person who didn't give in to lining up and blowing Infinity Ward for their short, over-hyped game. The multiplayer saved it though. I salute you Sir! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2232 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Assassin's Creed was my biggest dissapointment, Bioshock is a close second, but that's because halfway through it I realized "wait, my mind has been clouded with hype..this is a direct rip off of system shock two! Not only that, but they say it's "non-linear" - but I'm just ****ing backtracking all the time! What is this? Doom 3?" and the story is considered literary genius (though, most of the quotes in the begining were great, after a while, I got sick of hearing "a slave obeys" and "parasite") by everyone, even though the Not to mention that the "choice" feature is a joke. Actually, I'm on Escapist magazine, why shoudl I repeat what yahtzee said? |

OOOh, you ever get the 3rd party units of Bertha barriers (dragonsteeth as wall segments) and the Shilone Aerofighter (Battletech)? My personal favorites.
Neverwinter was a great game, but it was a tough sell to Baldur's/IcewindDale fans. Too radically different, that those who loved one typically didn't like the other. I myself loved both, but I'm a freak... I'm Supa freaky! |

Because 200,000/300,000 is not a very large number. That's why. You can bet your ass more than that many people are still playing EQ2, so, grow up a little dude. |

Do you mean the 'Die' part? Sorry, Pun failure on your part. Continue? 9.....8......7.......6.....5....4.....3....2...1...0. Sorry, must've been out of quarters. Anwyay, Daikatana was a red headed gay stepson. We try to forget he exhists. I mean come one, "John Romero is about to make you his Bitch, suck it down." Seriously??? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3039 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | Re: Daikatana... On a scale of 1-10, around here the hype for that game was between zero and -50. Living in the birthplace of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc... JRPGs don't get near the hype that western ones do... F**K, you should have heard the ranting, drooling nonsense waiting for Mass Effect. |
Beat Writer Posts: 161 Joined: 5 Mar 2008 | Assassin's Creed was my biggest letdown in recent memory. The beggars, retards, and ladies with pots on their heads all drove me crazy. By the end of my rental time, I was just going around killing them all out of spite. Terrible voice actor for the main character (seriously, if you're going to have one good voice actor it should be the main guy). I rented Call of Duty 4 to play the single player game. It was an increadible experience, but afterwards I felt disappointed because it was over too soon. I would have been pissed had I bought the game (I have very specific taste for multiplayer gaming). Going waaay back I'd have to say FF: Mystic Quest was a major disappointment. Fun enough game, but it was four hours long (with a lunchbreak). |

I can't recall the name, but I've seen segmented walls in some of the mods I've used. And no, I didn't like air units much to begin with, so I would never download one individually (I'm a navy man myself). The most spectacular unit I've ever tested was the Cain Battleship(I think the ARM version was called Abel, but I'm not sure). And for the record, as an old-school Battletech fan I did recognise the Shilone ;) I think I still have that technical readout, actually. To keep this on topic, I also thought that Oblivion was overhyped. I still have lots of fun with it (especially the stealth elements, which are a huge step up from Morrowind), but I liked the world in Morrowind much more. |
Beat Writer Posts: 173 Joined: 10 Feb 2008 | Halo. A lot of Hype, and not nearly as cool or fun as the hype said it would be. Not bad for the $20 I paid, but not game of the century either. I was expecting Filet Minon(topped with pure, uncut cocaine) and got Hamburger. Still a tasty hamburger, but not quite what I'd been led to expect. FEAR. As hyped as it gets for being totally fucking scary, I admit I wasn't particularly scared at any point. Some parts were rather creepy but not scary. I thought the zombie levels in Thief:TDP were a lot scarier. So I suspect most of it is my particular taste in horror which FEAR doesn't cater to, so I can't really fault it there. Though I can fault it for using the retarded "Psychic Clone Supersoldier" plot(Seriously, could you pitch "It's a game about Psychic clone Super soldiers", with a straight face? Thought not) which made it harder to take the horror seriously. I'm going to get shit for this but.......Bioshock. Don't get me wrong. It was a good game. However, due to numerous Missed Oppurtunities, it fell short of beign an excelant game. 1. The concept of "Art Deco Underwater utopia gone horribly wrong through gene mutation" sounded a lot cooler then it actually ended up being. It really seems to lack the oppressive atmosphere it needed to have for a post-apocolyptic,mutant filled, underwater tomb. 2. I loved the Beginning, and after the intro stages, it never really gets any better. The meeting with Ryan was very well done ("A man chooses. A Slave Obeys") but the Atlas Reveal was........predictable to anyone whose played SS2. Worse, coming so soon after the Ryan Meeting killed a lot of the coolness the game had just bought itself. 3. The idea of turning yourself into a big daddy(even though there really is no need, as you already have some of the little sisters helping you by that point) was really cool. Too bad it doesn't really go anywhere. You know, like being stuck as a big daddy even through you've beaten the boss, instead of completely forgetting about it afterwards. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2570 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | I suppose RV6:Vegas was a real disappointment for me. Here I go, expecting a nice tactical shooter, where I get some bloody Rambo, who can stick to a wall, as if he was wearing some Velcro. Oh, that, and Oblivion. I remember getting that game, all excited over what is a RPG. I play it, and after a week or so, something in me goes "This game blows". Maybe it's just me. - A procrastinator |
Copy Clerk Posts: 81 Joined: 24 Mar 2008 | san andreas - i liked the previous two in the series (although that was probably just because of the fact that my mum said wasn't allowed to play them), and magazines everywhere were saying that it was going to be the best game ever (like they're doing with IV now). but when it arrived the guns sounded like someone boredly tapping a battery on a desk (not the best comparison ever, i know, but i was just doing it and it sounds similar), the graphics were pretty awful and you spent most of your time driving across the map to defend a territory, only to die of hunger when you're just around the corner and lose it anyway. killzone half life 1 & 2 rainbow six vegas f.e.a.r any gran turismo game - toca was always better imo any final fantasy |
