The ultimate Fighter Pilot on the Enemy side. (Solo Wing Pixy in Ace Combat Zero...) I WOULD use the nukes too...

Badass player-allied NPC who is in some way important to the plot but at no point approaches the same heights of power, responsibility and danger that the player character does.

I'm thinking Daeghun Farlong, Barney Calhoun and Captain Anderson here.

I would be that one guy thats useful, but in reality you can jsut end him and be no worse for where...or I would be the one that glitches and just runs in place for 20 minutes...

Here's the Variations:

Leroy-NPC: Bum-rushing a horde of enemies thousands of times stronger then myself and dying from the most pointless and less-leathal wound(Shot to the leg, arm, pinky) nanoseconds after the charge.

Pain Sponge: My sole lot in life is to see how much attention I can get from the enemies and how much punishment I can take before dying a pitiful death.

Minor Annoyance: I get into the main players way when it comes to full on battles (Blocking the way to an area, blocking the veiw, ect). The result of which is the player killing me while my buddies backs are turned.

I.Q of 0: It does not matter, I'm utterly useless. I'll block doorways, take power-ups, get in your way, drive you into rocks/over cliffs or end with the the main players firy painful demise. Said playere takes pleasure in killing me after the game resets.

D.N.F.O: Does not follow orders. You could tell me to take cover, retreat or even leap off a cliff, and I'll do just the opposite of what you want.

Ass-Sniffer: I'll huddle behind you like a scared kitten and cling to your ass like a beartrap. Out of all the NPC's, I have the highest 'Live' ratio due to the fact the player cannot kill me due to the inability to attack directly behind them. I also tend to survive longer due to the fact that the player acts as a pain sponge.

Walking target: I'll distract the enemies, but you'd better make my life count, because sooner or later I'll be beaten down like a red-headed step child.

Scooby-Doo Member: I'll be the first to investigate a clearly obvious death trap/point out the obvious but sonder on anyway, and die as a result...As they say: "Sometime's your life is only to serve as a warning to others".

Redshirt: I'm just an extra. When one of me falls, ten arise.

I'd be one of the un-killable civilians in an early area who talks about an ominous subject as if it is the most normal things in the world.

i would be the level 100 gaurd or super powerful mage, who sends you off to kill a hive of level 5 bats even though i could do the same quest in about 20 seconds.

I would be the wise-cracking street smart sniper who is the main characters best friend during the war, saving his life during the beginning of the level after he arbitrarily loses all of his weapons and equipment and I give him my pistol to help defend himself. Either that or I would be the only survivor of a different squad that sent your squad a distress signal after being ambushed by enemies, only to die of my wounds or a sniper bullet while telling the captain important information. Yeah, I'm that guy in EVERY WAR GAME EVER MADE.

Halo 3 marine. One of the ones with voice work done by Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk or Adam Baldwin, that's Mal, Wash, and Jayne respectively </fanboy>

Either that or one of the Combine who considers G-Free a disease: "Outbreak! Outbreak! Outbreak!"

I'd either be Blades soldier from TESIV: Oblivion
or
I'd end up being the guy that says "I AM ERROR" in Zelda II

I can see myself as being one of those Idiot NPC's. You know the ones that are a bit too eager to fight and keep blocking your shots? I think that's how I'd translate into a game world. Completley useless.

I'd be the hard to get on your team NPC, the one that is an absolute must have in combat, just put me in front with a decent weapon, then stand back watch the mayhem and start counting dead baddies. To get me on your team you need to either have a certain very rare item in your inventory, have an outrageously high reputation with some obscure faction or you need to flawlessly navigate 20 lines of 5 multiple choice dialog where the choices vary by maybe 2-4 words!

Or I'd be that disgruntled player hating NPC, that gives you one final shitty quest that takes you to 5 far away areas that you have otherwise completely explored and completed... one of those "for obsessive completionists only"

I would be that one NPC that you should NEVER, EVER mess with unless you want to die. The one that can basically look at you and you'd die.

i would be that one NPC which you get at the end of a long, tiresome epic quest you just completed which says:

"I'm sorry, this isn't what i was looking for... but it will help us find what we are really looking for! come back when you are stronger (in 5 levels) for the next step!"

Well these ideas came to me after reading all your posts so props to you!

MGS Soldier - "!" "What was that? "Huh?" "?"

Assassin's Creed - One of the jug carrying ladies that always gets in your way while trying to escape a dozen guards.

Dungeon Master for D&D - 1st, being the narrator to everything that *is* d&d. 2. the Bar tender, which in my campaign is near invincible and a smart ass. kinda like that bar tender on the venture brothers who makes fun of Brock Samson's Mollet. (while Brocks license to kill was revoked.)

A Vet Sniper in Company of Heroes. I'd be stationed by myself behind enemy lines near a capture point. A bitch to spot/stop and i'll retreat w/enough time to make it home :-p.

One of those monsterous sized Statue like NPC's that don't move/talk in the Mortuary.

A random soldier in the imperial guard in dawn of war. They are the most murdered NPCs in any game ever. Pretty much just running emperor-worshipping meat shields to draw fire away from the important bits of the army unless well used.

I hope I'd be well used.

Either Noober from BG, the friendly NPC's that get in your way just as you're about to shoot someone, or one of the fast zombies from HL2; scary as hell when they're leaping all over the place (especially combined with other enemies, or if you're next to some barrels)

I would be that NPC that is not at all important in till, The player does something horribly wrong and can only be fix by me. I will also never be in the same place twice. I would only exists in huge sand box games like Oblivion and hang out in random ruins, careful you may accidentally kill me on a random quest.
