Well basiclly, you're most favourite console of all time. From the nintendo 64, to the Nintendo Wii.

I would say Xbox 360 Elite

I think you'll get quite a lot of "none of the above", as you've missed the NES, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, Anything from Atari, et al.

Then the thread will get locked.

PS3 is the best console of all time, mainly because the fraising of the question suggests that you are looking for the best console (a.e. the best mechanics and the most versatility), And that would be the PS3. The only thing keeping it down is the game selection, but that will change this summer.

A tie between the SNES and the PS1. Dreamcast is a close second.

My favorite console of all time is the SEGA MegaDrive

But as for the best.... absolutely the PS3

What sells, is not necessarily whats best. Longevity will be PS3's ace in the hole.

I'd say the SNES, Mega Drive and the Playstation.
But since you ignored anything more than 10years old, I can't vote for them.

But they're the ones that made gaming a mass media. The stuff before these was good but didn't really make an impact on the world outside of gaming. The stuff after just built on what these established, leading to the current wave of mediocrity.

The current range of consoles is distinctly meh. None of the games are particularly original, or interesting (except maybe Metroid Prime 3, Patapon and Little big planet, when it turns up).

If comparing consoles when they were in their prime, then I'd have to go with SNES.

For best console right now, I'd have to go with PS3. I don't own one, but with the available library due to backwards compatibility plus the games that will be coming out, it's got the most going for it.

Yes, the games - THE GAMES, not the hardware - made those consoles great. Now stop harping on the past and make a decision.

The question is the greatest console assuming there is a wildly fantastic future games market for it, and all the previously game titles for all consoles are available.

Is that a narrow enough focus for the indecisive out there?

Amen. The N64 had some of the most revolutionary RPGs ever in my opinion, and those controllers were amazing. Let's just say Ocarina of Time and leave it at that. ;)

How was the SNES left off of this list?! How many classic titles were launched on that system?! Super Mario World, LoZ:A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy 3 (technically FF6), Star Fox, and SUPER FREAKIN' METROID!!!!!

Poll fails.

I'm noticing that N64 isn't an option.

It varies, between my duality. My reminiscent former child who still giggles with glee at Super Mario 64, Pokemon Snap and Banjo Tooie, and the man that boy became, with my sleek black beauty, the Ps3. But right now, Bring on inFamous inFo, cause I want to get my superpowered psycho on.

As the Wii is giving you all these games, I think it falls under that.

Lack of SNES=Failure. And to the list of awesome SNES games rejected: Chrono Trigger. Also: FFII(4).

Very limited poll.
