This is a neat little browser based zombie game called Urban Dead. I was thinking about creating a team of Escapist Survivors. Here are the classes
Military: Private. Starts with basic firearms training, a pistol and spare ammunition.
Medic. Starts with first-aid training, a medical kit and a pistol.
Scout. Can move between adjacent buildings without stopping outside. Carries a flare gun and binoculars.
Science: NecroTech Lab Assistant. Starts with a DNA Extractor, and is able to recognise NecroTech laboratories from the street.

Doctor. Can diagnose others' injuries, and carries two first-aid kits.
Civilian: Police officer. Starts with basic firearms training, a pistol, a flak jacket and a radio.
Firefighter. Starts with a fire axe and a radio, and axe-handling training.
Consumer. Knows where specific stores are, when looting malls. Carries a random improvised weapon and a phone.

Some tips to start-
* Find a safehouse. Before you do anything else, you should scout around the area and look for a building which you can shelter in at the end of the day. Ideally this should be one which has already been barricaded by other survivors (although any building which has been "heavily barricaded" has been built to keep other survivors out, so move on, unless you want to risk smashing it down enough to enter).
* Explore. When you've found somewhere to sleep, explore the area and search other buildings for useful equipment, or friendly survivor groups.
* Hide. Make sure that you're back in your safehouse before you log out (or run out of Action Points) - any survivor who spends a night on the streets is likely to be found by wandering zombies.

I am a medic in St. Ferrols hospital, trying to find a safehouse.

I would think the soldier would get a flak jacket and a cop one of those light kevlar vests.

Its a good fun game. Its also a lot deeper than it first appears.

Since you only have limited number of action points per day (1 recharges every half hour up to a maximum of 50) it doesn't require a huge time investment. Its basic but good fun.

I tend to login twice a day for about 5 minutes a time - up to a maximum of 10 minutes when i am reading about builds, or trying to decide whether to go help the people on the radio or running in the opposite direction.

You can play mulitple characters but there are specific rules governing this so you don't get banned for cheating. I am currently playing on human and one zombie. I keep them far apart to avoid conflicts of interest. :)

Have a read of the wiki if you are at all interested. At first i kinda thought: Meh theres nothing to do. However its not a game you play all the time its something you login, make a plan and do it all in a short space of time.

Levelling is pretty quick and as i said above its deeper than it first appears...

Which district is that in?

I'm in and around Lockettside trying to keep the Mall from falling. Its not going so good at the moment, theres alot of Z's around...

I'm in Dartside, and we're getting reports of a possible zombie attack. I'm only Level 1 (created a new char yesterday) but we've got maybe 20-30 people barricaded. Also, I'm out of pistol ammo.

EDIT-HELP US WE HAVE A HORDE OF ZOMBIES ABOUT TO BASH DOWN OUR DOORS OH NOES! St. Ferrols Hospital in Dartside is about to be overrun.

Dartside is right next to Lockettside, I can't suggest that you run west though as theres a lot of Z's on the streets.

Heading south to Williamsville might be your best bet, its still a green suburb. You need somewhere safe to hide at least until you get freerunning...

Im in the Keane Blvrd Police department in Barrville. I need tips, im a huge newbie to this game

tips:

1. get the freerunning skill asap. regardless of ur class its the skill thatll save ur ass more than any other.

2. if ur a civilian/military, the best way to get ur xp up early is to find a hospital, stock up on medkits & heal ppl (worth 5xp per heal without med skills). Early on your gunnery skills suck to the point of frustration (on a new character in the malton map they did I emptied 4 pistols on a z without hitting once with no gun skills)

3. have at least 10AP spare when you start thinking about getting to a safe.

4. If your a scientist, when at a necrotech building search area for revive syringes instead of manufacturing them. It saves you alot of AP & you can also find other useful things (like a GPS thingy)

5. If revivifying Z's, always use DNA extractor first. If the z was a civilian before being zedified, check their profile before reviving them (& generally always revive scientists/military over civillians). I revived one civilian Z only for him to kill me for my troubles since he wanted to be a Z :-)

for anything else, check the UD wiki

heh, well i used all my turns and ended up camped back in the police station. Play seems good, and i bagged myself a shotgun and shell during various searches, but guns were so usless at my low level ive decided to hold onto the ammo for a bit.

Wow... 34 survivors in St. Ferrol's...
Kaleootter- You're maybe 6 suburbs away from me and Lightbulb, with who knows how many zombies. It would take you 70 some odd AP's minimum to get to us, which translates into maybe 2 1/2 days of travel. Feel free to join "The Escapists" group I created, what's your screen name?

Fireman start seemed to work good for me. The fireaxe is levelling me quite quickly. Hide in a building, save up to 50AP, go zombie hunting, bash zombies then run back to the safe house. The Axe is great because it doesn't need ammo which means i don't have to spend days searching for shells.

That said the shotgun (at max level) looks like it will cut through zombies like anything...

---

I would add that free running IS a life saver - this is because you can enter one building then free run (ie jump from one roof to another) in a building you wouldn't otherwise be able to enter due to the high level of barricades.

Personally i think Fireman using Axe is the easiest way to level. Its all very well trying to heal people but what if there isn't anyone to heal? Plus all that time spent searching for FAC (First Aid Kits) could be spent bashing Z's, which from my limited experience are never in short supply.

Also don't sweat it if you die, its pretty easy to get revived. :)

Well, in half a day at St. Faerrol's, I've cobbled together a few FACs. Between this, I've run outside to punch a few Z's (idiot me spent all the pistol ammo and missed every shot save 1) and that;s earned me 6 xp so far. How much XP for healing?

bah all this Urban Dead talk has got me logging back in. Still alive (dunno if glad or sad about that being a z can be pretty fun). Good thing to as theres Zs all over the place :-P

medkits without any doctor skills are worth upto 5xp/kit depending on how many hp u heal. I know some ppl purposely shoot then heal other survivors as a way to quickly grind up xp (make sure you have enough FACs before you start shooting though & ask first :-P)

We should make a camp of our own. I don't know the city well enough, so if someone can give us a good spot, we should all head there. Again, I am currently in St. Ferrol's so if you're there wait up. AND DON"T GO THROUGH MONROEVILLE.
EDIT- At last last check we had 11 z's outside, so if you come, make sure you can get in.

Yeh, I've joined. If you see a Stompy21, shout, and I'll come to help. But, I'm a lowly cop...

I'm in. My name in the game is Nickolai Keyes, Army Medic.

Right now, I'm just nosing around, trying to get a feel for the game. I'm trying to get to St. Ferrol's but I don't know the way, any hints?

Also, I'm currently asleep in that police department in Pennville near the military base, so I'll make for St. Ferrol's tomorrow.

That's cutting it close. I'd try for a day and a half, that way you can A)pick up supplies and B) Won't risk getting caught in the open. Stop somewhere in Grayside before coming.

Myself, I'll be making a supply run tomorrow, There's a few points of interest in Dartside, going to check Stations and Warehouses.
EDIT: Wow, you'd get right next to Ferrol's, but not quite there. What you could do is wait till you have 50 AP, then move 2 blocks. Wait till you're back at 50, then finish the trip.

This sounds really interesting. I don't have that much net time so I'm not sure if i'd get a chance to log in a lot. Scout class would suit me.

Holed up in St. Ferrel's as a doctor. Healing everyone I can, cause I'm not going anywhere without the freerunning skill. The name in the game is Silentsentinel.

Is there a limit to how many skills you can learn?

theres a limited skilltree but no limit on which you can buy with ur xp (depending on ur class some are more expensive/cheaper than others though).

Silent are you sure its St. Ferreol's in Dartside? I'm in there now, and I can't see you. Screen name is Haliwali, so if you see me shout.

Alright, the last of our barricades went down about 2 hours ago. I'm going to make a supply run, and it may end in a wild search for a new house. 24 APs left...
BTW Galt, feel free to join The Escapists. Where are you right now, since my zones a bit hot right now.

EDIT:Well, I've abondonded St.Ferreol's and headed for the Schlach Hotel to the Northeast. Also, I met up with a friend from school, so we have a Fireman and a Medic in there. Unfortunatly, we don't have a 'cade yet, so if you have the Construction skill you're more then welcome. On the upside, we don't have any Z's.

Wow, never thought I would be interested in playing Urban Dead again...

Well, I will give it a try once more. I dont think you will see my original characters, as I have lost all knowledge of there names and passwords. Why is it that every time I throw away something, I later find a need for it? Oh well, See you being eaten alive then.

A large note of advice, beware the Big Bash. I was around when it came, and it flattened the surrounding survivor areas it traveled through. So many dead... and undead... Beware of the Riddlybank Resistance Group, they are not to be messed with.

Only need about 5 minutes a day, maybe twice a day. I do it when iam eating my breakfast.

---

I am slightly annoyed. I went to the pub after my exam - if i had come straight home i would have been able to run as 20 minutes ago i died. Dang real life!

Oh well better go look for a graveyard to camp at for a revive... :)

Hope i don't bite any of you on the way... ;)
