What do you guys think of the fallout series? Fans? Haters? And furthermore, do you think that Bethesda is going to do a good enough job to make the fans happy? Or will they bomb it completely? If you think Fallout 3 will be awesome, do you think it will make up for the several crappy games that came out after Fallout 2?

I've never played the series myself... but I've seen screenshots of the third one and it looks absolutely amazing.

They will nuke it. What little information there actually is on the game makes me cringe. Bethesda aren't in my mind exactly well known for their memorable characters. I'm loathe to see their spin on an irradiated wizened zombie-type with a tree sticking out his head.

I'm trying to keep my expectations at rock bottom so that I at least will enjoy it somewhat, seeing how the two first games, in particular the first one, blew me away. I'll never forget the awe I felt when playing the first game. I'm completely into post-apocalyptic myth and love the retro-tech mixed-up art-deco to mid century functionalism style of the games.

As of yet, Bethesda hasn't impressed me at all. The Star Trek franchise is a chapter of it's own and it has Bethesda all over it. The Elder Scrolls series has done absolutely nothing for me. Free roaming, so what. I get absolutely zero immersion from those games. I couldn't care less about the characters and settings.

The screenshots up on the Fallout 3 website puts tears in my eyes, and not happy ones. It looks awful. Deeply entrenched in tech-land. Glossy zombies? That's supposed to be a Ghoul? *Sigh* .....

And somehow they've even managed to muck up Vault Boy.

I'm still hoping that somehow, it'll turn out great. But ....
