L4Y Duke:
DOOM Marine - Let the Bodies Hit The Floor - Whoever-the-guys-were-who-wrote-and-performed-it.

Drowning Pool were the group, and the song was Bodies.

They never did recover after the sudden (And drug-unrelated) death of their lead. Shame.

Can't think of any specific characters and songs, but I'm under the belief that anything in a game, regardless of how boring or horrific or awesome can only be improved by killing off the sound and music and just playing Yakkity Sax (AKA the Benny Hill theme) on a continuous loop. Try it.

The Metal by Tenacious D might be appropriate for CnC's Kane. At least, it would be if you replaced "metal" with "messiah" in the lyrics.

I was also thinking that Wherever I May Roam by Metallica would suit Rogues or Hunters in WoW. Or any other similar character.

TheNecroswanson:

and Indigo Dingo: NO! That song was only written because Megadeth thought it was a kickass name after the game came out. Shame on you. Go to your corner.

I'd have to check, but I think Megadeths came first.

Asator by amon amarth for kratos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtxJg7xQL8s - not made by me)
or blood red sandman if that is a little too extreme.

I'm trying to think of a themetune for kain (from the legacy of kain series) but just can't

...Uh... um... damn, I'm not good at this (don't listen to much music). Well, Dante (DMC) works really well with the main theme from DMC3, but seeing as that's not the point of this, I'd have to say... crap... uh... really any hard rock and/or speed metal song would work for him. Also, "Under the Influence" by Rusty Cooley kind of works for Leon Belmont, from "Castlevania: Lament of Innocence." Many parts of the song have a very Castlevania vibe to them.

Yuna from FFX/FFX-2: Pretty When You Cry (VAST)

Altair: Killing An Arab (The Cure), if not only for the Camus reference, but the aptness

Kefka (From FFVI, or FFIII, depending on perspective): When You're Evil (Voltaire)

Cloud (FFVII): I Think I'm A Clone Now (Weird Al)

Master Chief: Another One Bites The Dust (Queen)

Mass Effect Main Character: A Little Less Conversation (Elvis Presley)

Two more I thought up:
Zant from Twilight Princess (for the first half of the game at least):
"Everything Went Black" - The Black Dahlia Murder

and

Simone Belmont from Castlevania 2:
"What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse" - The Black Dahlia Murder

/* Same band, same album, but it's one of my favorites */

Master Chief already has a theme tune, it's the Halo 2 theme, and it is awesome.

C.J. at the start of San Andreas - The Kids Aren't Alright - The Offspring (one of their best forays into non-comedic Punk)

It even fits the setting.

GTA should be obvious. The song is about Axl's first time in LA (edit: written about LA not about a trip to LA) and as soon as he stepped off the bus some one told him "You know where you are? You're in the Jungle. You're gonna die." (edit: Song written in Seattle about his first trip to New York) So it was a play on that and if you listen to the lyrics of the song they do kinda fit.

Wish is being used to describe Kratos' relationship with Ares.

Maybe Before I forget should be for Desmond Miles and not Altair, makes more sense that way. Mostly looking at the fact that Desmond knew these things and didn't know about it.

Know Your Enemy for Jack, because of the twists in the games plot.

Colton Caramihalis:
I would be personaly insulted if they wasted a Breaking Benjaman song on Master Chief

Tee-hee-hee... Breaking Benjamin wrote a song for the Halo 2 soundtrack. ("Blow Me Away" on the soundtrack album; an instrumental version played in the Mausoleum battle.) And they're the ones who approached Bungie, by the way.

As for a character leitmotif, how about the Eagles' "Life in the Fast Lane" for Niko in GTA4?

Dante from Devil May Cry: That Cat is High by Manhattan Transfer

Me in Red Alert 2: Mars, god of War by Gustav Holst

Barney from HL2: The Ballad of Black Mesa by Litfuse Films. It's really neat if you haven't seen it.

I never thought of using a classical song. nice thought. I presonally like Jupiter: Bringer of Jollity, but that's me.

Live and Learn - Crush 40 (sorry, had to)
No Brakes - The Offspring. "faster, now, you know I got no brakes" but other than that the lyrics don't really fit.

Dante- Bodies by Drowning Pool
Grey Fox- Duality by Slipknot
Albert Wesker- Down With the Sickness by Disturbed
