I'd like to see in the next game the main character being a woman for a change. Thoughts?

Depends on the woman. I'd hate to see GTA V be a "Lara Croft" steals cars sort of adventure. It's not like women don't engage in criminal activities, but bringing that kind of story to GTA would be a lot harder to do without making a mockery of what they accomplished story wise in IV. I certainly would buy it, but then again I am a sucker for open worlds.

I could see the game being great with a women like Mallory from Natural Born Killers. Crazy and violent to the extreme. That would make for interesting story possibilities too. Maybe that type of character in a Falling Down type of story where she is at her low paying crappy job and finally has enough and snaps. She goes on a killing spree and gets noticed by some crime lords who pull her into a world she knows nothing about. So on and so forth.

Imagine the possibility for "Hooker missions"

Oh, the controversy.

Yeah a crazy psycho bitch like Mallorie, abused as a child and driven to the fringes of society etc would work. Another idea for a more level-headed person, driven to the edge by one overriding all-consuming desire, becoming capable of having some very grey morals in the process like the main character from Kill Bill perhaps. Or take the Sarah Connor-type character, and replace the Terminators with Gangsters who are after/killed her son in retribution because of some deal she tried to betray them on. The possibilities are there and it needn't be goofy or cheesy.

Definitely not a Lara Croft clone, although the potential for digs and in-jokes taking the piss out of the female game character stereotypes would be there - "You want me to climb that?!? Who do you think I am, Lara Fucking Croft?".
(yeah this is why I'm not a scriptwriter)

Whatever, I think I can trust R* to do whatever they choose to do right at this stage.

Also, America has been done to death - don't get me wrong I'm not complaining about what's been done so far, it was done wery well - but I'd love to see the setting change to something different like Rome, Paris, or London, or maybe Tokyo or Hong Kong or Singapore for a more radical departure in culture.

That sounds awesome! I would totally play GTA: Amsterdam or something like that. Or how about having it set in a middle eastern city like Dubai? That would be cool.

UK could be done as that is what rockstar know and have lived in but i think they would not have the authenticity's or same observational humor by doing a city they have never lived in or near

I think it would be interesting to see GTA:[another country here] But whether or not they'd pull off the same jokes and humour is questionable. US lifestyle is known over the world, even if not practised. The culture of say, Bruma (random example) doesn't have the same world-wide reckonisation.

The wave of GTA related posts has subsided, and now you won't have to wade through a sea of "IS GTA IV OVERRATED?" posts that you would have if this thread hadn't existed in the first place. That doesn't mean that it's open season on GTA IV now. Simply that if you have something well thought out to say about GTA IV feel free to do so listing spoilers in the title as necessary.

I am quite suprised to find GTA IV as the most homofriendly game i have ever played. Most games adopt a dont-ask dont-tell attitude where gay (men) are nowhere to be seen. But later on here Niko hangs out alot with a gay buddy of his and takes several missions to protect him. He doesnt ridicule the guy but accepts and encourages him. Who would think that a GTA game would have you ride around on a scooter shooting people for uttering homophobic slurs?

That side-mission was hilarious. The irony was not lost on me that I was riding a pink Faggio (the name they give in-game to mopeds) through the park, chasing after a "hater" (homophobe) to kill him for his evil views, and in the process killing a lot of unfortunate joggers that caught a stray bullet, or if they were really unlucky my buzzing faggio-wheel up their arse...

I actually thought that the whole mission arc was the best or close to the best in the game. The difficulty wasn't annoying (I hate getting 95% through a mission 5 times before finally completing it! It's enough to make me almost not like the game) and I thought it showed a bunch about how Niko actually is as a character.

Bwahahahaha, wow look folks, a troll from 4chan! I ain't seen one of those before.

Sarcasm aside, you're right of course, we're all such fools. How could we have been taken in like that? It just goes to show the power modern marketing has over the minds of the general masses. Thanks to your perceptiveness, and the courage you've shown in risking everything going against the grain and speaking out with an unprecedented post, we can all stop kidding ourselves that we're having fun whilst playing this hack of a game. Thank god there are people like you to show us the truth, keep up the good work.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA spot on spot on, but all awesomely wordded ness away, gta is awesome, just not as good as I thought, guess I expected too much from word of mouth, I told myself," NO you will not buy in until you have played yourself" and I dont listen to anyone not even myself so naturally I bought in and was let down by high expectations beyond what is currently possible on the 360. Best game so far though.

I thought that mission was evil, not for any homophbic reasons but i fucking hate that scooter, tried to shoot the hater before he rides off but i can't get him lower than a third health then and just keep loosing him, i get frustrated that it's so slow so try and make it do stupid things, it's the only mission so far thats really given me any trouble, I even did three leaf clover (the bank job) on my second attempt.

Also wondered which extra clothes people had got, so far I have the German biker jacket, the waste disposal gear and the Dr's scrubs, is there any more anyones found?

Dr Scrubs? Where do get those? The biker jacket was Albanian and i also have the waste disposal. Aparently if you get acces to Playbox X's apartment you can wear Claud's cloths. You can also get a Statue of Happyness sweater from enterting it.

Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks, Because of you - Ne-Yo and Pruit Igoe - Philip Glass are my favorite songs so far, what are yours?

I don't know if it counts as an outfit or anything, but you get to keep the balaclava from the bank robbery mission. I discovered that when lamenting the severe hat shortage in Liberty City to my fiancee. I was really hoping we'd have more than the fur hat and the baseball cap available in the first shop, which both look crap.

I expect in some meeting with microsoft someone said "We don't need clothes right away, we have downloadable content!" Remember all the stuff they added to saints row as DLC? Now if I can just get some horse armor I'll be set...

Thats a pretty bad example, now i'm thinking we'll have costly, yet useless, DLC

Anyone else getting pretty sick of constantly having to redrive long stretches of road for every mission you want to replay? I can honestly don't see why they don't just put an extra save when you arrive at your destination. Turn off your xbox, you have to redrive the next time. Just replay asap => start at the actual mission itself. I do fine in regular missions, but the ones with triggers you can't avoid are sometimes a pain in the ass.

They're called taxi's. They teleport you places. It's actually a good thing being able to catch a cab. It cuts so much off the annoyance factor. Still annoying haveing to restart, but a lot less then having to drive another half an hour.

If we get extra clothes and cars and whatnot as a bonus for downloading the extra episodes the 360 version is getting, great. free clothing and car packs, good too.

But I'm not paying for extra cars and clothes, probably not even extra missions unless there's a whole extra island to go with it (the game is full enough as it is!).
I got really annoyed when I downloaded the 'free' pack for Crackdown which added a bunch of extra mission markers, but I couldn't access them until I bought the extra pack.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is everything the previous games were and a big scoop of greatness all rolled into one big orgasmic sandwich of glee.

The dr's scrubs come from the mission where you have to kill the snitch who's on life support in alderly (second room on the right if memeory serves) don't know if you can get them from there outside of the mission though
