There will be a few new characters, new plot twits, and, apparantly, (SPOILERS) we learn more about Maria Santiago, Dom's wife who apparantly has partially lost her mind. Not going into details cause I'm lazy, and don't have a scanner to scan the pages in with. Just know that they are trying to spice things up a bit. |

Lately I've bben into games that at least try something different with their characters or put a female in the lead (See Beyond Good and Evil). Of all the games i currently own, only one contains a female lead. |

The trailer looks like it takes the best parts of the original, expands on them and makes the thing even more epic. I'm even more stoked about it after seeing trailer! For once I'm actually optimistic about a game. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1704 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | My impressions: I don't mean to be a downer -after all it's just a trailer, but a fairly long one that showed a lot - but I expect a lot of "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD" so I'm just gonna get to the nitpicking, because I'm not impressed. 1. LARGE SCALE EPIC BATTLES! Too bad it's on Rails..and most of the enemies on the ground aren't "shootable" (crosshair doesn't turn red when Marcus aims at ground units) - sorry EPIC but you haven't blown me away with this, I expected something less "illusiony". 2. Human Shield: I really hope this doesn't replace the curb stomp, it's probably something that is "can only do it with pistol equipped" (instead of automatically switching to pistol) so chances are it hasn't been replaced, but, the human shield just seems like something that was thrown in. 3. Just some new weapons and enemies, nothing here to really hype myself up about, sorry for not being more enthusiastic guys, but with a big release like this, I expected something better at "hyping us up". |

Agree with both this point. It's really bad when you've been promised a large scale battle, only to find out it's linear to the degree of a railshooter. There's nothing wrong with liniarity as long as the illusion isn't to obviously broken. Also the curbstomp was one of the most satisfying ways to finish of an enemy in GoW |
Copy Clerk Posts: 107 Joined: 9 Dec 2007 | Well, the 'illusion' isn't as blatant as games like CoD2, where your endlessly spawning buddies rush the enemy position only to be cut down at the exact same location as the last time. Even if the large scale battles didn't look as if they were playable, it adds a great sense of atmosphere to GoW2. In GoW, atmosphere was almost non-existent, imo. There was no real sense of urgency. In the gameplay vid, I think this has really changed a lot. Anyways, I'll reserve final judgment until some real gameplay comes out. Trailers usually don't do well for telling the truth. |

Yeah but CoD2 is a lot older than GoW.Why not compared it to CoD1 or even scripted Omaha Beach on MoH. PS: Now if you replace "2" with a "4" and "buddies" with "terrorists", that's a pretty valid argument you got here. |

The only people stupid enough to buying the sequal will be a bunch of drunk shittheads(Like most people that own a 360) who don't care fo a good story or originality as long as it has blood and chainsaws. Ironically just like Cliify B. |

Your cutting diatribe has enlightened me. How did you get so smart? I need to know so that I can also cut up some drunkard gamers with my rapier wit with the kind of confidence that allows me to not spell half the words right. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1038 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | Just make the Southpaw and Legacy options work properly if you decide to include them Epic. If you did nothing else I could probably actually have a little fun with the game unlike the first one. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 506 Joined: 14 Dec 2007 | The only thing about the first game I didn't like was the constant "updating" of the multiplayer. First the grenades were overpowered, then the shotty, next the lancer, now the snipers hit detection sucks and the boomshot won't kill people when you shoot them in THE FRIGGIN HEAD, etc. As long as they leave it the way it comes out, save for any fall through the map game-breaking glitches, I'll be happy. |

Dawn of War :D That is all. |
Beat Writer Posts: 147 Joined: 5 Mar 2008 | It looks pretty freakin' sweet so far. I hope they also flesh out the world a bit more, so it's not just in the opening cut-scenes and manual (seeing the different civilians was nice). I'd like my characters to have something more to fight for than just the joy of inflicting massive amounts of pain. Gameplay-wise it seems like they aren't messing with the formula too much. GoW is still good to play, and honestly I don't have a problem with GoW2 just being "more." But they will have to put something special together for the third installment. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2038 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | I'm not sure I like the Human Shield idea. While it does look nifty it appears it might get rid of the Curb stomp. It does say "press A" to pick up a corpse though so maybe X is still reserved for the curb stomp. One can hope so. |

No. If it ain't really broke, make it better. |
BANNED Posts: 302 Joined: 6 May 2008 | That one section of the game was linear.. if you didn't even pay attention to what the guy was saying. I'm sure the large scale battles are in there it's just this one section was a rail shooter part. Don't count me as a fanboy or anything I fucking hated GoW multiplayer it's just I think you guys are being harsh on 2 minutes of gameplay User was banned for: Random answer generator request and also do you have any eccentricities?. ...Is that a bad thing? I loved that movie. Aw, great, now you've woken up my inner fanboy. He's imagining Mordor vs. the Locust. Thanks a lot. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 116 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | Wow, looks like Epic have added a whole lot of nothing to their ideas. Honestly, what was the point in adding that little sight upgrade to the Lancer. It does nothing for the player! The addition of more enemies would actually really appeal to me, if they were actually killable... So from this video it looks like Epic have added: A couple of guns, more (un-killable) enemies, more vehicles that we can't drive and a new special move that replaces the curb-stomp. I had high hopes for GOW2. Those hopes have been dashed. P.M. |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | I'm looking forward to at to some degree, but am I the only person that felt GoW was extremely overrated? It was pretty and all, and the cover mechanic was neat and influential, but the story was kind of unoriginal, and the multiplayer unbelievably shallow? I enjoyed it for a few days, but there's only so many ways you can spin "Run through ruined city with one of four guns, killing the other team!" That goes for you, too, Call of Duty 4. |

No you are not the only one. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 107 Joined: 9 Dec 2007 | I think the new special move is only possible if you have a pistol when you run up to a downed enemy. I don't think Marcus would be dumb enough to fire the Lancer one handed. Of course, he loves steroids so I wouldn't know.
Lol, you thought you were the only one? There are more than you know. |
Paperboy Posts: 14 Joined: 14 May 2008 | well ive only just watched this. i personally enjoyed GOW loads but thought it ended to soon. the new little changes like chanisaw fights an cutting them up in the back looks good. but since its only 2 mins of early gameplay you cant judge to much. i cant wait |

EPIC released yesterday some footage of the new GoW2 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33775.html
My biggest concern with the new GoW is that to me it looks like they just end up doing the same as they did last time, only with minor changes and new levels. What pissed me off to an extreme degree in the old game, were those sections where you had to split up, and the subsequent badly placed checkpoints. I've been playing the original for some time with my friend on Co-op to get all the collectibles, and it's really i bitch playing the same section over and over again if one dies, especially since you have to listen to the same lame dialogue over and over.
A thing that really got me interested in the universe set up in the previous game was the relations with the stranded, who seemed to despise the Gears for some reason. I was really positively surprised by this, and thought it was a nice addition to the otherwise pretty simple story (get plot device, activate plot device that turn out not to work, then go somewhere and pickup another plot device, and finally ride a gaint train into some water to fire some missiles). I liked the feeling of being called a fascist and a pig by the stranded, mainly because it's nice to see some rivalry between the humans and not the old, everybody round up behind the people believing they're saving the world.
All in All I look forward to the game, I just fear that it's "just" a pretty little sequel with no real changes to it but a few weapons and maps.
