Which annoys me when developers choose the lazy options like collectables or completing set missions. They should be gameplay challenges, like Don't Touch The Sand in HL2 or flying under all the bridges in GTA4. Those are the sort of things that add longevity to the game and I enjoy doing. I really couldn't give a damn about my gamerscore. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1762 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | I make achievements of my own - I'm more creative than the list of achievements that the game says is worth wasting my time on. That sounds cocky, and it isn't intended to be...it's just that I make my own stupid little challenges, like, Wear a monkey mask through the ENTIRE experience of MGS3 - on extreme difficulty, without alerting a single person. Not "collect all this shit, and play the game for this long while upping your kill count". |

I hear you there. Granted, I only own a PS3, but Insomniac have had skill points in their games since before Microsoft started making consoles. But it's always the random skill-based challenges that keep you (well, me anyway) coming back for more. Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction had some awesome skill points, such as Chorus Line, in which you have to turn a dozen enemys into penguins with a Transmorpher, then hit them with a Groovitron to get them dancing. Since the effects of both weapons are only temporary, you really have to pick the right spot, but when you do get it going, it's worth the effort. The unlockable extras also help. |

Muckraker Posts: 336 Joined: 11 May 2008 | I'm a sucker for a good game mechanic. Challenge someone with something seemingly trivial and you find them working harder then they normally would otherwise to achieve... Kind of like that one big frat guy who always has to drink himself retarded AND smash all the cans about his thick unfeeling cranium |

Press Junketeer Posts: 420 Joined: 9 Oct 2007 | Sometimes for something to do. Once I beat a game, I usually look through all the achievements to see what else I could do to spice things up. Also, I think anyone who plays a game just to get the achievements and nothing else is completely missing the point of gaming. |

Yeah, I like that too. But whenever I see my controller lights flashing I immediately think I need to plug it in. However, the only time I really concentrated on acheivements was for the free, pre-loaded game, Hexic HD. For some reason I got really good at that game, so I liked going for the acheivements. |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | I go for them only if they're not absolutely ridiculous and unattainable (getting 100% in GTA 4 is a prime example.) They tend to give you a goal that you otherwise wouldn't even think of. A good achievement adds to the game, instead of taking away from it. |

There's many different types of achievements. Just wondering - if you obtain achievements on the 360, what's your motivation? What about achievements motivate you?
