A character can be defined in a game/movie by one line, and if it is done well, it will help make not only the character, but the movie as well great. Take Pirates of The Caribbean, when Jack Sparrow utters the line "Where has all the rum gone?" in a drunken stupor. Right there, that one line summed up just about everything there is to say about him. In fact, this was one of the problems I had with the new Iron Man movie. Great movie, but I found it lacked that one line that truly made the movie. You could argue that the line at the end was it, but I just didn't feel the oomph. Although it doesn't have to be a line at all. Take No Country For Old Men, another great movie, and while it never had any "one liners", I'd say the quarter-flip scene at the gas station did the exact same thing in that it told you everything you needed to know about Anton. |

Who the hell creates viruses on apple macs anyway? PS - "Independence Day" is a very bad awbeit somewhat-enjoyable-in-an-Oh-My-God-How-Cheesy-Can-This-Get-kinda-way movie that's made all the more watchable by its ridiculous one-liners. But good movies can have awesome one-liners too. Look at "Pulp Fiction" (although I believe someone's already mentioned it) - it's filled with 'em. |

Back in the old days of original IPs and 2d sidescrolling extravaganzas there was a little gem called Duke Nukem. When i first got my sweaty pre-adolescent hands on it I was so exited to here the foul words and excessive violence. But what really surprised me was how much I loved the one liners. Everyone loves a one liner and it can mean the difference between an awesome scene and a horrible ending.
So do you believe that one liners can make/destroy a climax?
