Total Annihilation hands-down. Halo has some nice songs, as does C&C, Red Alert, and others, but only Total Annihilation has a collection where I love every single song.

Depends on my mood really,

Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Archadia when I want something almost classical,
Sonic 2 and Soleil when I'm in a retro mood,
Super Mario 64 when I want to feel happy

Aww, dude, damn you. Now I have to dust off the old Genesis just to play that game. I can't get Emerald Hill out of my head.

I like the music from all the Silent Hill games. Parasite Eve had good music as well and of course, the Final Fantasy games (except 8) has great music too.

Yeah, the Silent Hill series has very creepy and atmospheric music. The Devil May Cry series and BioShock had really great soundtracks as well.

Laslow is awsome. But not as cool as Fernando

Does Still Alive count as game soundtrack? If so, I vote for that.
Generally I don't care about game music, prefer normal music.

God of War is orchestral, and makes the game feel like an action movie. DMC is rockin', and makes me feel like I'm at a Rock Concert with crazy fights happening in the mosh pit, Zelda music just makes me happy, and there are so many I'm going to stop now.

Unreal Tournament (the original) was excellent. Dungeon Siege (the original) was also very nice. Off-computerively (tm) I always loved the music for Lethal Weapon on the Amiga, it's just great!

Archlord, easily.

I mean, I got a special beta test pack that included the CD with the soundtrack. I didn't get into the game at all (barely played more than five minutes) yet the music that came with it has stuck with me even years on.

One of my favourites would have to be the funky beats of Interstate '76. I think I even listened to that a few times when I wasn't playing the game.

eternal sonata for the 360 is a really great RPG and has some pretty good music in it, one of the games main themes is classical music

Grim Fandango, Sam and Max Season 1 and Donkey Kong Country 2 are god tier as far as Game music go.

Oh, and not to whore any attention, but this is my first post.

Okami

I would keep finding completely unnecessary reasons to go back to Ryoshima Coast, just for the music.

Hmm, I would probably say Icewind Dale. Closely followed by one or two of the other infinity engine games, because the Baldurs Gate series and Planescape: Torment had some high points.

Silent Hill has some good music definitely.

Halo's music has always been one area where it rises up above much of the mediocrity of the games if you ask me, but occasionally it slips into cheesy territory. Not bad though.

Total Annihilation was also great.

Ehh, Im sure I can think up a few more, but it doesnt change the fact that Icewind Dale is my fav.

Edit: I did like Mass Effect's soundtrack, but its obviously a heavily inspired one. Still, I thought it was great all the same.

Streets of Rage series, specifically 2.
I'm also a fan of Final Fantasy IX and Sonic.

I have a couple

1. GTA vice city, can't really call it a sound track though
2. Arcanum: of steamworks and Magick Obscura, I loved the string quartet
3. Chrono Trigger, my favorite snes sound track, completely epic for a snes

the Zelda games don't place, but earn honorable mention in my opinion

Command and Conquer: Red Alert has been mathematically proven to be the best video game soundtrack ever.

^^^^^
agreed. and it came free with the game. OMIGOSH.

ok so however stupid this may sound, there are some covers of the main halo theme that are pretty sweet. So props to that, if anything.

the piano undertones in bioshock were delightfully creepy.

oh, and GTA4 has me sitting with pen and paper writing down songs.
