Metal Gear Solid series. (The main theme is enough to make my heart swell, honestly.)
Sonic 2. (Retro goodness. My second videogame ever, and the first one I clocked in well over 50 hours on. At the age of 4-5.)
Megaman X. (Storm Eagle. Hah! Now you won't get it out of your head until you play it, or replace it with something else!)

And...
Tyrian. Tyrian, to me, gets bonus points for having a STUNNING soundtrack, despite being a game that a full dozen people ever heard of.

Zelda: Majora's Mask has most of the best songs I've ever heard in games (one of the many reasons why I can't understand why no one likes it).

Gauntlet IV (Sega Genesis)

Probably the best video game music score ever.

Halo 1:Good music 10% Bad music 90% (Like 3 good songs rest suck balls)
Halo 2:Good music .01% Bad music 99.99% (short remix of one of the good songs played only once!)
Halo 3:Good music 100% Bad music 0% (They ran out of ideas so they just redid all the good ones and i can finally switch it out anyway)
sadly it is still my favorite music in games (really just play ur own)

I personally hated the way everything reset every bloody time you had to time travel, that and I felt that like Wind Waker, that the main quest was a bit short, and the side quests were longer than they needed to be.

ActRaiser: Still sounds miles ahead of most other 16 bit games
Mario 64: Always brings a smile to my face
Metroid Zero Mission: Just for the 'discovered by pirates' music in the second half.

Jet Set Radio Future - good thing too as it was a great game to waste time skating around not doing much.

My choice is Golden Sun. I know it's weird to like music from a GBA game more than music from console games, but the music from the first fight with Saturos (which I had to listen to many times because he kept handing me my ass) got stuck in my head for months.

The music in games based on movies are often the only bright spot in them. I love the music from the Lord of the Rings movies, so games like Battle for Middle Earth II and Return of the King have great sound tracks to me. I also love the sound track in Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine (remember that game?). It's really cool the way the sound track switches from the moody, spooky music to the famous Indy fanfare when you manage to pull off one of the game's stunts right.

I had to join and throw in my hat because I didn't see one mention of Super Mario Galaxy!
Apart from that I guess Super Smash Brothers Brawl but thats a bit like saying the "Best of the Beatles"
The Curse of Monkey Island
Team Fortress 2
Oh and Ocarina of Time!
Gerudo Valley is still on my mp3 player i think...

I used to play Loom over and over again just to get to the final scene, where the reprise of "Dance of the Swans" would play. Because of that game, Tchaikovsky became and still remains my favorite classical composer, and because of that game, I shelled out 150 bucks for Swan Lake tickets back when I lived in Portland.

Mechwarrior 2
(can listen to it here: http://www.gamemusicjukebox.com/?id=5)

Also liked Jet Set Radio Future. Would leave it on in the background just for the music after I got tired of the gameplay.

Protip: You're an idiot. Halo has maybe 3 songs and all of them are well orchestrated. You're elitist garbage.

Kastere: Ever heard the phrase "If it's true for you, then it's true"? Let's take deep breaths there, buckaroo.

This thread can't continue without mention of "Still Alive," a song that is so catchy and addictive, it should have a goddamn federal warning on it.

I actually haven't heard that before. LOLIRONY. But I see what you're getting at. At least I THINK I do, are you saying 'It's his opinion, let it be?'

And still alive is great. The version by the guy who wrote it (Jonathon Coulton?) is excellent as well.

I'm sorry guys but Super smash bros brawl wins this award twice over. All of the original music is fantastic not to mention the redid classic. The highlight of the game is it's fantastic soundtrack all of it fitting with the excellent gameplay.

And pleas Yahtzee fanboys don't even say anything -_- You ruin these forums

Tales of Symphonia is good, I agree. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Portal. Anyone remember that little game that turned out to be one of the best games in a long time? Heh. I bought the soundtrack for that, and it's got a few good things on there.

Although of course Still Alive is the best Song in a game, I don't think you can consider it a soundtrack since it's not being played while you play the actual game. Therefore I consider the Starcraft Soundtrack the best of all times, the Terran Theme is actually my wake-up ringtone.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles - the remixes on ocremix.org are amazing too.

I also LOVE Katamari Damacy's wacky theme music, the acapella opening track on OST is just BRILLIANT.
Bust A Groove - Brilliant choons.
I also love FF7 - I'm sorry. I love it to pieces. It just brings back so many memories!

Same here, and that was just from the ad; I hadn't actually played the game yet!

Although, that, and Adagio for Strings from Homeworld, are awesome game soundtrack songs, I gotta put an asterisk beside them just because they're not an original score.

Mario. Even people who've never played it know the Mario theme, and it sticks with you forever. Zelda gets an honorable mention as well.

The only game (well, series) with music I've ever listened to while not playing the game is the Command and Conquer series: most of which can be found at http://frankklepacki.com/

I always really like the music to Railroad Tycoon 2. Cool blues music.

Diablo - Who can forget Tristram. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2evIg-aYw8

Morrowind

GTA:SA. I can't really say I'm crazy about GTAIV soundtrack. I think Rockstar shot their wad on SA and used up all the cool tracks. Although I can get enough of that catchy goddamn Glukoza Nostra - Schweine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Es1nPWzJ-0

I don't consider any single song a soundtrack. I consider the officially licensed Portal Soundtrack a soundtrack... which has Still Alive on it. Hehe... and a few other good songs.
