Each console has its strengths and weaknesses. The Wii easily connects to non gamers and is very interactive and family friendly with a small price tag. The PS3 is a monolithic powerhouse with some of the best looking games available but, it suffers from a high price tag, few good games and an undeveloped online community. The 360 fits somewhere in-between with a moderate price tag, a well developed online community a decent number of good games and good graphics. The 360 however suffers numerous technical problems that Microsoft has yet to completely fix. |

I realized that the system doesn't matter, it's all about the games. Since then I've led a much more peaceful gaming experience. |

I agree, it is all about the games, which is why I own both of the consoles that play legitimate games and not the Wii which only plays stupid minigame turds. |

Well, this puts this thread to rest... Actually, word to the wise, I would suggest not making these kinds of threads, as they just attract trolls. Oh, and I'm happy with my Xbox 360. |

I don't think i have to go into detail (I.E. Wii for your kids, PS3 for rich bastards and multiplatform games, Xbox360 for either drunk fratboys or people with FPS fetishes). They all have their ups and downs. Personally i love my PS3, and my Wii hasn't gotten too much of a work out lately. |

Hell we've been fighting this console war for years, I remember staunchly defending (and still would) the Dreamcast as one of the best consoles out there. Before that it was the Saturn vs PS vs 64, before that Genesis vs Snes, before that Master System vs NES... |

I don't consider the 360 to have any worthy exclusives, but that's MY opinion. If Halo 3 makes you happy, then great. I'll enjoy my MGS4 next month way too much to care. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2185 Joined: 4 Nov 2007 | I've only ever gotten secondhand reports from people who know a guy who's a console tard, so I've barely noticed any console war. I just play games on my 360, and dream of having the others. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 98 Joined: 30 Apr 2008 | The main reason the console war is more noticeable this gen is that this gen is much more balanced then the last two with the NES and master system the master system had such a poor game library that it faded away without much fanfare and quickly pushed off the market for the genesis with snes and the genesis there was a balanced market share in both consoles sold and games available. that you ended up with 2 groups of fanboys with equal power in a manner of speaking going at it. With TG16/neogeo fanboys at the time were of too small numbers to be noticed PS1 vs Saturn vs N64 For many reasons the PS1 ended up with such a large marketshare, the Saturn ended up dead and the N64 almost dead. With the PS1 getting 10x as many games as the N64 that it was silly for anyone who was into gaming not to get one. So in terms of fanboys the numbers of nintendo only people were downed out PS2/gamecube/dreamcast/xbox Pretty much the same thing as the gen before it only with the new guy to make fun of So with this gen of 360/PS3/Wii the fanboys are much more balanced again so when you go onto gaming forums instead of one nintendo fan vs 50 sony fans, you have like 40 xbox fans vs 30 ps3 fans vs 25 Wii fans so things get a lot more noticed |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1114 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | I pretty much got my XBox 360 so that I could play Mass Effect (and because I could afford it). If I just had a ton of money to blow I would definitely get a PS3, but there just aren't any exclusives that make me want to get one. And the Wii I'm just not really interested in at all. My sister has one, and I've had fun playing on it, but I would never buy one myself. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2989 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Well, PC, Wii, and future PS3 (waiting for MGS bundle) owner here, I may come off as a PC fanboy sometimes because I preach about it when people bring up stupid myths about it (Piracy is the problem, PC's cost an arm and a leg and require upgrades like, all the time!) and so it gets my blood boiling, but yeah, most of the common arguments that those system war idiots bring up are full of shit and aren't worth bringing up anymore because they are so old, tired...and, did I mention full of shit? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3903 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | I am a huge fan of PS3 simply because it has games I am more interested in. Namely, Gran Turismo. I love Halo 3, so I will eventually buy an X-Box 360 (or my girlfriend will for herself, either or) but first I want a PS3 for Gran Turismo 5: Prologue... I will never, ever CONSIDER a Wii. I don't like it, I don't like the premise, and I want nothing to do with it... |
Paperboy Posts: 48 Joined: 30 Dec 2007 | I have the advantage of owning all four (PS3, 360, Wii, kick-arse PC) and, as has been said before, it does mainly come down to your own personal choices. Some games I buy for PS3 because that is what my brother has, and we can play together online. Other games I prefer the 360 controller over the PS3, but usually nothing beats a good mouse and keyboard. The Wii is mainly for my kids (ages 3 and 4) but I do have Manhunt 2 for that and enjoy it quite a bit (and no, the kids don't play that one). My wife prefers the 360 over the PS3 while my brother is a diehard Sony fanboy. I just have to smile and say, "I don't care, because they're all good in their own ways." |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 618 Joined: 22 Apr 2008 | This is rather complicated for me...I have a Wii and a PC but I would like to get a 360 as well. And I would except that all the money I have is going for other things, such as expensive software (read: Photoshop CS3). I don't like the PlayStation, though. I'm not sure why. It's an unreasoning hatred of what is probably a very good system. I haven't really bothered to find out. |

Beat Writer Posts: 217 Joined: 5 Mar 2008 | ? random rant thread.. o the joy. Unfortunately your going to get alot of people shouting of the supermecy of their console in this thread so just disregard that, but speaking from my view as an owner of all 3 mjr consoles, heres my opinion. The Wii - This is a console i don't play much. Reason games, Most of the games on the wii are crap and outweigh the decent stuff 1 to 10, that being said the WII does have some good games, mainly games i like to play with a few mates. In terms of single player theres a couple Super Paper Mario and Resident Evil 4 to name a few, which are fun, but really i don't spend much time on this console. Its one of those console i play for 20-30 mins to pass time. In terms of playing all day.. thats out of the question. The Xbox 360 - This is my primary gaming and online gaming console. Yes most are FPS' but you have to remember the market that Microsoft is trying to appeal to. Luckily enough i like FPS' especially playing online where i can have all nighters playing them, atm i am playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on co-op and its all fun. However its not all FPS' Dead Rising one of the games to go under the radar and one of capcoms best since they pissed all over the Resident Evil franchise (Excluding 4), then theres Lost Oddyssey a traditional JRPG one of the best since the early days of JRPGS. Then theres games like Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Bioshock etc etc etc (Most on the PC, but meh prefer consoles) oh and don't forget Xbox Live Arcade, playing classics like Doom AGAIN, theres so much fun to be had. The PS3 - Atm this console i like to call "The console i play when the games aren't on the 360" this console has to promise in the future, like FF 13 and MGS 4, but atm its just the console i play when the game isn't on the 360 (except GTA, where i refused to get it for the 360) In terms of games it has more than people believe, just people don't like looking behind other games for them. Also PSN, the free but quiet version of Xbox Live, shows some promise if people knew how easy it is to get connected. Finally Playstation Store, its always nice to play C&C again, remising about the good ol' days. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1032 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I think it's funny when people talk about the console "war" as if it's something that's real. I recall back when I was in high school. We had a choice between an SNES and a Genesis (actually, I could go further back to the NES and the Master System, but most of the people I knew just had the NES) and most of us didn't have the money for both and therefore had to convince ourselves that one was better than the other. We called it a console war then too, but (and this is the point) what it actually was was *self delusion*. I remember Genesis fans telling me that Star Fox "wasn't that good" and even then I'd shake my head. They had to believe it. If they didn't, it would mean that they had picked wrong, or something. Now we have the current *ahem* "war". Myself and my generation, naturally, have no excuse to consider it a war at all. There's no good reason we can't pick up whichever console(s) we'd like, given some time to save and work it into our budget. And the kids of today who can't afford more than one? No one cares what they think. No one born after 1985 is really a person anyway. - J |

YES! :P As good as Mario platformers were, I'd take Sonic 2 over any of them. Go Tails, go! Just try and keep up if you can, good luck little fella! |

The problem with SEGA in those days was a lack of good third party games. The SNES had showers of third party titles (as a matter of fact I think the SNES was defined by these). Back in the days I owned an SNES while the Genesis was my little brother's and we only played the Genesis basically when a Sonic game came out (gunstar heroes was awsome as was Streets of Rage 2). In the end developers ended up taking more advantage of the SNES's capabilities than that of the Genesis. |

Quite possibly true but the Megadrive (or Genesis to some) had some great titles. Not least of which Streets of Rage 2 as you said! Shiny games were pretty good such as Earthworm Jim and lots of other things I don't think ever turned up on SNES like Flashback, Toejam and Earl, Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike, etc. And some that came out on both like NBA Jam and FIFA. |

Flashback was ported to the SNES, but I always thought the Genesis version was a bit smoother and I also remember liking the Genesis version of Earthworm Jim better than the SNES version, But I still think the SNES won that "war" because of the reasons I gave in my previous post. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 411 Joined: 9 May 2008 | I picked the Xbox 360 because I actually have one. I traded in my Gamecube, Xbox and PS2 to get one. I was hardly even playing my Gamecube nor my PS2 anymore anyway. They were both good systems but I was finding myself playing my Xbox most of the time. About all I was still using my PS2 for was a DVD player for movies. I hadn't gotten a decent game for Gamecube since Metroid Prime. Believe it or not, I actually had a Wii for three months. I worked at Circuit City and one day the manager said he'd set a few aside for employees. I think it was so someone in the store would have actually played one and could answer customer's questions about it. I went out and rented a bunch of games for it and even bought a couple. After playing it for a few months, I had to admit to myself that it wasn't as great as I'd been hoping it would be. The graphics in the games I played were terrible. Most games were kiddish and better suited for sleepovers of gradeschoolers than a mostly play by myself guy in his 30's. The few games that did try to be serious looked just awful and the controls for them were so sloppy and frustrating that I just wanted to throw the nunchuck and wimote in the trash and plug in a Gamecube controller and be done with it. I guess I'm too used to the "old" way of mashing buttons and flipping thumb sticks to get used to the "innovative" nunchuck and wimote. Maybe the new games are good, but of the ones I played, the only games I found to be any fun were Wii Sports and Marble Madness. The best game for the Wii that I tried was Blazing Angels but even that game got old quick. At least it kinda worked like it was supposed to and it gave you opitons on how to control the plane in case the default was too weird for you. I hate to say it, but as innovative as the Wii is, it's not a very good console. Maybe the rumoured second version of the Wii, or whatever they decide to call it, will be better. Or maybe the rumoured motion controler for Xbox 360 will come out and actually work as advertised and I (and lots of other people) won't care about the next Wii. |
Muckraker Posts: 265 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | I can understand why people prefer some consoles over others, but I don't get why anyone feels the need to insult a console or the people who buy it. I really couldn't care less what consoles other people buy. I'd like a PS3 for Final Fantasy XIII and a Wii for SSBB. The 360 doesn't have anything that I want to play that won't be on PC or one of the other consoles. |

If you have just been born, just got released from Guantanamo Bay, or if you're Amish, there has been a Console War between the Wii, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3 going on for a few years now. What I've noticed is that the Wii is being insulted by mostly Xbox 360 fanboys(funnily enough) and maybe the PS3 fanboys for it's "bad" graphics, controls, and the fact that most of the games are for children. Here's a list of Wii games. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Medel of Honor Heroes 2, Bully, and Manhunt 2. MANHUNT 2!!! The Wii is not just for children and fat people anymore. Sure the graphics do seem like GameCube or PS2 graphics but who cares about graphics, oh right, almost everyone that's not a Wii owner. This is what I would sound like if I cared a lot about graphics,"Kirby Super Star for the SNES was a decent game but the graphics were a little too '90s." Thank God I'm not THAT. If I do run into someone who said that, I would "politely" say to them,"Would that be because the game was created in the '90s?" By the way, Kirby Super Star, Best Game EVER. The Wii's graphics aren't as good as the other console's but good. If you hate the Wii for the controls, you're a freaking coach potato and proud of it, whoop de do.
The Xbox 360 does have better graphics and a better line up of games, but what I haved noticed is that most, if not all, of the good games are first person shooters. I don't "hate" FPSs but I don't get why a lot of people love playing them. Whenever I visit my brother in Seattle, who has an Xbox 360, the only good games are FPSs and I play them anyway and after a few minutes, I get bored. But that's just me. I am pretty jealous of Xbox 360 and PS3 owners because while they're having the time of their lives playing GTA IV, us Wii owners have to make do with games like Tranformers, No More Heroes, Spiderman 3, Bully, etc. If you mix Bully with Transformers, there's the GTA game for the Wii we're looking for. I don't know much about the PS3, only that the graphics are the best of the three and it costs an arm and a leg to buy one.
So if you're a Wii owner, that's cool. If you are an Xbox 360 owner, good for you. If you're a PS3 owner, you are still having fun no matter how filthy stinkin' rich you are.
