Adventure games. Not even just point & click, the whole concept of a game whose sole purpose is to tell you a story while making you think to continue through it. I mean, they're not like dead and gone (Sam & Max, the Ace Attorney games, that kind of thing) but there just aren't enough.

Side-scrolling platformers. Hell, platformers would be nice. Not the new-fangled GTA clones that call themselves platformers (I'm looking at you Jak2), but DK, Mario, and the like.

i hear a lot of complaints about not having enough platformers these days. i, on the other hand, dont miss them in the least. i felt they were boring and repetitive. either jump, or run forward. no other options. i really like the way modern platformeres have evolved. recently ive been playing prince of persi, sands of time, and tomb raider: legend, and anniversary. this is, i beleive, the future of 3d platformers. the formula is changed so that instead of jump and walk forward, suddenly theres many different types of obstacles and many different types of movement to avoid them. this makes the game more thinking and less repeating, and definitely, a more fun and evolved approach to platforming.

Is there any genre that has left? The 2D games like tetris are online, we're still getting platformers and SMG kind of put them back on the map, but I can't think of any genres that have "left".

giant robot games and space combat games.

give me back mechwarrior and freespace, better yet, give me both in the same game.

make a Gundam game that isnt some shitty half-hearted console cash in.

Twitch shooters. I know that UT3 recently came out, but that flopped and just about every good multiplayer FPS nowadays is pretty damn slow compared to the old days of Quake and UT.

Side scrolling beat-em ups ala Streets Of Rage and Final Fight.

Thing is, I would say games like Devil May Cry are the equivalent now. I love the genre though. I haven't seen a decent one for a while.

Dungeon-Crawlers.

If you haven't played it yet, Etrian Odyssey is awesome. And soon, Etrian Odyssey 2 will be out!

Anything made by Infocom pre-1987.

You have entered a cave. It is dark. The exits are S and W.

You have a sword (magical), a bit of salt, a vellum scroll (phrobotz), a broken shield.

You go west.

It is dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Oh, and low res action games like Out Of This World or Flashback were epic in the day.

SURVIVAL horror, they came and went but I kinda miss them. Everything now seems to be action horror, stupid RE4, even though I kinda like it.

witty adventure games please.

bring back monkey island.

I'm an adventure game fiend. I love that most of the old ones are abandonware, which means I can finally afford to get my hands on them.

If I had to guess, I'd say you'd like this one:

Out of Order

i approved! to steal yahtzee's phrase it does "require you to subscribe to the specific brand of logic used by the creators" but its still fun nonetheless. Thanks for suggesting it!

Freud was a no-talent nutter with a fucked up head. He thought every boy wants to sleep with his mother, but that's a load of crap. Freud's mother was OLD, and by no means a MILF.

Hehehehe.

I haven't been able to get in to an RTS game since Total Annihilation. And I also haven't played a decent multi-player action FPS in a while, the trend now seems to be simulation.

Adventure games.

Monkey Island and Grim Fandango were great, and I miss the puzzles.

Whatever happened to city building games? And i dont mean games like Sim City i mean the ancient city building games like Pharoah, Caesar and Zeus.

They have been replaced by the RTS where you build cities and destroy them too!

But really, I loved Sim City 1, 2000 and 3000.

i know this isn't a genre and i know coop has already been said, but offline coop seems to be dying out now. publishers seem to think that people are only interested in online coop, and then don't bother adding a simple split screen coop option. in my opinion having a mate play a game in the same room is far better than speaking to them through a headset. recent games that have committed this heinous crime;
Burnout Paradise
Crackdown
COD4 - though i can forgive this due to the amazing multiplayer

Games which use the full color spectrum. This is mainly a quibble against shooters and anything trying for "realism."
Also, simple yet challenging games puzzle games, a la Myst and Dr. Brain Adventures.

Side-scrolling platformers.
God, side-scrolling platformers. So much...
Especially side-scrolling exploration games like the handheld Castlevanias, and the Metroid titles.

That said, Freud tried to push his specific kinks onto everyone else. Just cause HE loved huge gazongas and his mommy meant, to him, that EVERYONE does so. And through circular logic ("You like big tits? You want your mom! You like small tits? You secretly want big tits and deny it! You want youe mom!") few people could prove him wrong.

Point-And-Click Adventure games are sweet, would love for that genre to make a comeback, seeing as it was great back in the day, Escape From Monkey Island, Neverhood, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle etc..

Space Combat Sims... X-wing Vs. TIE Fighter 2 on 360 or PS3 would be kick ass... And we all know how awesome it would be on PC... That is all I have for now...

I miss side scroller beat em up games!

A good portion of my childhood was spent playing Double Dragon and Final Fight (anyone ever heard of Dragon Kings? Yeah that game was the shit.) and I want those memories back.

Imagine a modern beat em up with old school graphics, just for fun. Add in some character creation/customization, maybe some skill sets or leveling type stuff, and of course make it really freakin long. Aww man I'd buy that in a heart beat.
