You have to go in and select everything one by one to convert to omni gel, then in the very next firefight you automatically collect more useless items and equipment. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1537 Joined: 5 Dec 2007 | The inventory could use some tweaking, but generally was fine. A good autosave function is definately needed. Make the techie and soldier classes less boring. The choices you made in the first game should affect the second game, moving over saved files and all that shit. There should be a "non-saved" option if you didn't beat the original or lost the save file, the choices you make about your characters background should fill in the blank's for the first game's choices. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1759 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | The actual story should be twice as long. That's about the only demand I'd really have for the sequel. Though a better inventory system is definately the next on the list, oh and a better Ability system would help, it was frustrating so I usually just levelled up in all of the passive skills that granted me boosts I didn't have to activate. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 803 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | I definitely agree about the inventory. But I'm one of the few people who was fine with the Mako. If anything it was just a little boring - you would just sit there and jump over any missiles shot at you while hammering away at the enemy. It would be cool if you fought other rovers similar to the Mako, that would force you to have to keep moving. And it would be sweet if you could upgrade it to make it faster, better weapons and armor, etc. But the controls are fine the way they are, imo. |

Well, they probably can make the story quite a bit longer since they dont need a new engine for this game. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 82 Joined: 16 Jan 2008 | Well I would definately like for them to cut out the stupid Romance sub-plots so the over-protective parents can go and bitch somewhere else, I would also like the micro-maanging to be worth it instead of adding an extra 3.647463% onto your damage against a one of a kind enemy you only meet once in the entire freaking game. A wider array of Vehicles, like Motorcycles and flying machines and allthat crap, it was a son of a bee trying to get that thing to get to fight against a Threshermaw, so I eventually just got out of the vehicle and managed to do it first time, and on the Magma planet I also found myself getting out of the Vehicle for fights; not only does it give you more XP but it was ten times easier, but my biggest pet peeve was the emptiness of some of the main place; it's meant to be a huge city but I only ever meet 3 assassins on the way to the strip club, where are the other perverts walking with you!? |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 700 Joined: 1 Jan 2008 | 1.Wrex is back.I don't care if one of the choices gets him killed, ME2 can read my f*cking savegame. I mean honestly, as awesome as ME is, it fails in so many ways when you compare it to KOTOR, it's spiritual praquel. |
Muckraker Posts: 256 Joined: 8 Dec 2007 | My personal suggestion for the next game is to make each class more unique, perhaps even give the play the option of playing the game the way they'd like to E.g: You select if you'd like your character to be a criminal, soldier or government agent. My example of a unique class for the next Mass Effect on the Mass Effect forums was a revamped engineer, with the engineer using a cool exo-suit to abosorb damage and throw people around like little dolls, as well as tearing them into bits. As well as the lifestyle choices making the character use items and classes differently. E.g: A character with the criminal lifestyle choice has a special sheild generator vest hidden under a trenchcoat as opposed to an overt suit of armour. Also, the criminal version of the soldier (gunner) has a unique method of attack: One handed assault rifle on full-auto. Or for another example, a criminal biotic would have chaotic and devastating powers and a goverment biotic would have heavily focused powers. Basically, this would feel way better in terms of gameplay to make player choice feel more game altering. |

Yeah it gets annoying how the gameplay makes vanguard/soldier the only class for insane. On the subject of insane, why do I have to play the game at least 3 times to get the achievements? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 98 Joined: 30 Apr 2008 | 1. Make the good/evil system actually mean something, there was only a couple of points in the game ware it would change anything at all. It felt very forced most of the time like they were trying to make it look more like an rpg then a fps with no real gain to ether 2. Stop having enemies try to melee you, esp without any melee weapons. Trying to play as a light armor character was harder then it needed to be do to 1/2 the mobs just running up and smacking you in the head |

They're already doing that. On-topic....just make more variety in the side-quests, and make the sniper rifle useful. Other than that, I have no complaints. (I actually had no problems with the Mako. Go figure.) |

Your character is however you left him at the end of Mass Effect. Commander Shepard is the player character for the whole trilogy. The main improvements I'd like are better enemy AI, more use of tech abilities from enemies, an adjustable lookspeed (seriously, enemies in close can sidestep and shoot faster than your camera turns, this is not fun), better inventory management, and better balance for armour and equipment, rather than there simply being one "best" set of gear and everything else being trash by comparison. |
Beat Writer Posts: 180 Joined: 8 Jan 2008 | Maybe they could add in more than two or three models for the armor and weapons. The inventory system also needs to be addressed. Also for what reason do I still have horrible popup in my 360 games? |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 951 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I'll be honest, Mass Effect was such a good playable movie, I'm terrified that 2 and 3 are going to pull a Pirates or a Matrix on us. I'm approaching the concept of a sequel with trepidation at best, terrified that we'll have all the standard sequel plot cliches. That said, what I'd mainly like to see is for them to finish their original concepts from Mass Effect 1. See this trailer for details: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLOJ-hE527Q Originally, you had individual squad positioning, the ability to control other squad members, a more dynamic conversation system, and a more open galaxy (plus a much cooler galaxy map). As good a game as Mass Effect was, a lot of it got left on the cutting room floor. - J |

Copy Clerk Posts: 102 Joined: 17 Feb 2008 | 1. the mini map system SUCKED. i liked the kotor one better. put fricken outlines on the damn thing. this would be my number 1 change for ME2 because the first time you play you have no idea of were to go and the only map thats usefull is the big map that needs to to pause the game to use, which really breaks up the action. 2. NO MELEE. even if I have the best armour in the game and/or the biotic barrier up it takes less then 3 attacks to kill me. this would be bearable but krogans love to melee and there is no way to knock a krogan over, you can only stop a krogan if it dies but if your on the last level up against a krogan warlord not even the carnage ability on your shotgun can take it down. so you end up runing backwards waiting for your friendly AI to take him down, its just to bad that there all IDIOTS. which brings me to my next point 3. better AI. its not hard. when Shepard is in a critical position get them to divert their fire onto the cause of the problem. that alone would make the AI 100 times better. 4. every single bunker on every single planet looks the same. sure the boxes and crates are in different positions but would it really take up that much time to bend a hallway or add another one in? |
Muckraker Posts: 347 Joined: 2 Dec 2007 | I think they add the abbilty to call support from from your ship like more troops or the MAKO i'll add more problems later |
Press Junketeer Posts: 438 Joined: 6 Feb 2008 | I know it kinda goes against the basic principle of Mass Effect, but the Journal entries could be...well...a bit less wordy :-D Inventry could make more sense too. i kinda picked it up with trial & error (assuming the bigger numbers meaan better gear :-)) The planet car thing...I hated that. handled like crap & was no fun to fight in despite the planets insisting u do alot of just that. |

Muckraker Posts: 227 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | 1. Make the different styles of play actually different. If I use the assault rifle, things should go differently than if I use the pistol. Perhaps the pistol gives you an advantage in close quarters combat (maybe even have a CQC component a la MGS3). |

That video is amazing. Change the interface and battle menu to that and it will be so much better! The story was way too easy. On normal it was only about 10 hours, reaching about 15ish on Hardcore. The ai was horrible, even on Normal, the majority of the time I was fighting alone, and having to res my troops and heal them on recharge, I had to tell them what to do all the time (which by itself was fine) but if I didn't, it felt like they wouldn't do anything. The enemies running at me was annoying too. Especially how the krogans have their regen health shit while they run. There werent a lot of planets to land on. It makes you think you have freedom, but there arent any planets to just Explore. They all have to do with the story or one of the 5 side quests. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6322 Joined: 28 Nov 2007 | Wow, reading this topic, you'd think Mass Effect was a horrible game that only needs a sequel to redeem it. |

6 is an excellent idea, but I'm not sure about 7 - are you saying every time you make a choice, the game will randomly pick 1 of 2 outcomes? I guess it would be ok if they both made sense in relation to the choice you make, but it would probably mess with a lot of people. |

ARE YOU INSANE! MORE LESBIAN SEX SCENES! But seriously, auto-save needs to be included, enemies need to have more strategy than just: Camp and Bum Rush, friendlies need to be usefull in combat and have some bloody survival instincts, friendlies also should not shoot you in the back while you rush the enemy (even though there is no FF, it is still annoying to watch) AND MORE THAN ONE MAP FOR EACH KIND OF BUILDING: every cave was the same, every ship was the same, every underground facility was the freakin same! And remember that whole "interrupt conversations" crap? I was never once able to intterupt anyones lines. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2392 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | They need to fix the combat. Tweek the AI to not make it so "clusterkuckey". Make the fighting more tactical, removing the "clusterfuckery" should help this. Expand on the plot whithout adding new races. A new race will ruin the depth of Mass Effect one, with all the depth in the first one it would seem out of place to introduce a new race. |
Paperboy Posts: 49 Joined: 4 May 2008 | New inventory screen, improved Mako controls( perhaps a bit less emphasis on Mako combat, too) and some more variation in the sidequests. They do that and i'll be satisfied. Also, what's with everyone wanting the game to autosave like every five minutes? Is it really that difficult to save the game on your own? |

Ok first off, Mass Effect was an amazing fucking game. Great graphics, sweet story, awsome characters, and cool combat.
That being said, it was not with out its faults. Such as buggy soft shadows, retarded squad commands, irritating menu interface, and possible the worst vehicle handling ever..
What do you think should be a focus of development/bug fixing/additional features for the makers of Mass Effect 2?
