I'm disapointed to see that the developers of my favorite FPS's seem to have made a crummy game devoid of their usual humor and creativity.

There's not really enough here to start a thread. Add your own opinion perhaps?

What surprises me the most is that we're talking about FreeRadical here, and from reading the reviews and hearing 'non-reviewers' impressions, this game sounds practically half-assed and just unfinished (Example: The flame that comes out the flamethrower is just a red cone...that's like, N64 graphics man!!!) - the story is laughably bad (that is saying a lot for a video game), well honestly I could go on and on, but this game is only worth a rent.

The only strong point is the multiplayer, but it's just very basic, arena, weapons, vehicles, spawn points, now go kill each other! It's got a ranking system too, but I doubt this will be anyones next unhealthy addiction.

I havent played, but this was another game I was very uninterested in. It was just another what i like to call "Magic-Suit'em Up". another Next Gen "oh look at my pretty graphics" *Cough*Crysis*cough* with a dude in a skin tight rubber suit on the front *splinter cell* a suit which has some sort of super-power gameplay element *Timeshift* oh and characterless reflective yellow *cough* Halo*splutter* masks.

I'm not saying these are all shit games. in fact most of them rock in some respects. Splinter Cell is one of my fave's. but look at the cover art and the basic premise of timeshift haze and crysis, and i feel like i'm missing another one out. and you've got three practically identical games coming out in the same, what? 6 months?

why bother?

I've only heard bad things....

I was hoping for another wacky Time Splitters-esque game... I was sad when my friends said it was crap.

OK I'm kind of lost here, because Crysis was great and had a lot more than "look at my pretty graphics" contrary to popular belief - but you seemed to talk more about their box-arts showing super soldier wearing super suit showing off their graphics than the games themselves so I can't see your point.

(Oh, and yeah, of course you've missed some games, damn near every shooter is that way now, space marines in big ass suits of armor.)

I saw the ads for the game it never really grabbed my attention. Something about it always seemed like it was going to be bad and I'm not terribly surprised that it was.

I played through the demo.

I didn't think it was terrible by any means, just ordinary. For a company to follow up "Goldeneye" and "Perfect Dark" with "Haze" is like Ferrari deciding to make a mid-level sedan. Just kind of an anti-climax.

"Goldeneye" still ranks in my mind as one of the alltime best FPS. Haze just felt like a Crysis knock-off.

I'm with you. I have a sixth sense about whether a game will be trash and Haze walked right up to that sense and widdled on it.

Shame... I was looking forward to Haze. But then, I was looking forward to Lair... maybe if I look forward to a game, people should automatically walk away...

Don't you dare look forward to Fable 2. I have hopes for Pete this time.

There's a handy formula that works with alarming frequency in deciphering the quality of video games from its advertisements. If they show *gasp* actual in-game play, it just might be worth checking out. If they show a lot of of beautifully rendered cut scenes with a gravely voiced actor growling lines like "Now I'm fighting back!" I call pass.

My brother bought it, beat it, took it back to Gamestop the next day and told the clerk that it sucked and the guy let him hand the game back to them and take another one off the shelf... I suppose he had also played through Haze that night and found it pathetically lacking.

There's a difference.
Haze's reviews are accurate. It's deficiency is ubiquitous mediocrity, accentuated by the recent overindulgence in the FPS genre.
Lair's reviews were not accurate. The primary complaint was the failure of the Six-Axis controls. They were perfectly effective, they just played a stale game.

On topic, I was not disappointed, because I had no expectations. I regarded Haze with my common mindset of pondering the quality, but refraining from any emotional investment. Trust me, satisfaction is infinitely more attainable that way. I played the demo, was not impressed, read the reviews, dismissed the issue.

In a way i'm glad it's been slated and a lot of people are saying bad things about it. There was a time not too long ago where all the PS3 fanboys were constantly up Ubisoft's arse saying things like "360 fans must be gutted, we've got the greatest shooter to come out in recent years, and it's only on PS3!" things like that, and now it's come out, it's a let down.

I'm not anti-PS3, i'm just not part of the whole console-war arguement.

I'm quite disappointed though that the game has been somewhat a let down, as I was planning on getting a PS3, and was weighing up the pros and cons, Haze being one of the pros at the time, and after seeing and playing it i'm not too impressed, so i'll hold off on getting a PS3 for a little while longer.

Possible SPOILERS and wall of text if you have ADD.

Imagine if you will, a game in which every enemy troop you had to fight against was superior to you in every way physical that could matter. They were more accurate than you, they had heightened senses, they would pound you into raspberry jam in melee, and they were juiced up on stimpacks. Oh, and they can see you through walls. The only you advantage you had on them was your mind. That was what HAZE should have been. The first few stages where you are a Mantel troop were actually decent, because they got the idea across as to just how much better they were than the rebels. Suddenly, you're a rebel. "Oh shit," you think, "all my senses, strength, accuracy, gone! And the drugs, by God the DRUGS! They're gonna kick the shit outta me before I can even see them!"

No. Apparently your former squad mates stop taking that sweet nectar the second you switched over, BUT, you can still overdose them by throwing nectar grenades/knives at them... This was such a huge disappointment. I wanted to feel like it was a boss battle every time I fought one of them, but I just tore through 30 of them and went on my merry way. You have to understand how stupid this feels. For you Halo players out there, imagine you start off as a Spartan, but then get (somehow) downgraded to UNSC marine. Now imagine you can tear through thousands of Spartans despite the fact that one of them could kill your entire regiment. For the Warhammer 40k people, this should have been space marine vs. imperial guardsman. In gameplay terms, think of the Big Daddies of Bioshock. Weren't they frickin' hard the first couple of times you fought 'em? And even if they got somewhat easier after you learned their tactics, they still made you think a bit, or expend a lot of ammo. THAT is what the Mantel troopers should have been. Instead, they all just jump in front of your weapon, put their lips around your gun's supple barrel, and say, "THE DRUGS ARE TOO STRONG!!!"

Meh, Haze never really interested me anyway for some reason.

I played the demo and it was blatantly average for me, and I hated the redneck-like Mantel Soldiers (especially the part with the pilot dying and saying "you know what i was before? A boxer" what the hell?) Though my friend who has the game really likes it, which annoys me for some reason. I don't know why, but i just want to punch him for enjoying an average game (from what i've heard)

I second that, i can almost always tell wether a game will be worth it or not.

Haze looks... average. I haven't seen anything special about it aside from its marketing making out like it's the next biggest thing. It looks so bland and uninventive.

Please tell me its good. I so wanted a really good shooter for the PS3. I wanted a strong story with political and narcotic overtones. I wanted creative use of yellow stimulants.

Maybe if I destroy the Internet, it'll change reality...

I'm not an expert on Video Game history, but I was under the impression that the production of First Person Shooters is significantly more frequent now than it has been in the past. Hence, recent. If you meant that the genre was always overindulged, that's a matter of opinion, I suppose.

The only reason I said that was because it looked like it was gonna be such an awesome exclusive for the PS3 owners to balance on their mighty erections and cock fight in the system wars, but then, it was teh floppage :o

There is some hope... I looked forward to KH2, Jak 2&3, as well as The Orange Box.

I think I need to reword my statement: If I look forward to a PS3 title it has a high chance of flopping.
