So, that get's my vote. Edit: Wow... I really need to get out more, don't I? |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 525 Joined: 13 Nov 2007 | Au contraire, the first Zelda game I ever played was Link's Awakening, then I played A Link to the Past, but my favorite in the series is Majora's Mask. Oh, and if you think all Zelda games are the same, play Majora's Mask and find out differently. |
Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 13 Apr 2008 | I hated majoras mask and every single GBA zelda game ever conceived. I even hated the link to the past port to GBA, which is wierd because its one of my favorite zelda titles. My favorite altogether is Ocarina of Time, even though the stories all have the same roots, I liked the OoT story much better because of the way it played out. But if we're going for zeldas I liked for combat, Id have to go with windwaker. the combat was just so fluid, so visceral, it almost made up for the fact that it was cell-shaded. |

Beat Writer Posts: 193 Joined: 24 May 2008 | Thinly veiled attempt to troll? Anyway, my favorite Zelda game is Link to the Past. Playing Twilight Princess right now, and I'm not overly impressed. Don't even think I'll finish. Then again, maybe OoT is my favorite... |
Copy Clerk Posts: 102 Joined: 14 Apr 2008 | Probably Link to the Past. I wasn't even enthralled with Twilight Princess to finish it. I honestly don't like Zelda games that much. *shrugs* |
Press Junketeer Posts: 435 Joined: 2 Mar 2008 | My favorite, like many others, is Ocarina of Time. However, Twilight Princess is a contender for top spot, and Majora's Mask is only just behind (I Freaking Love the Mask system). Also, I really liked Zelda: The Adventure of Link, the only Zelda title not to feature "The Legend of" in the title, and also the only so called "Black Sheep" of the franchise (the CDI games don't count). And my first Zelda game was, indeed, "The Legend of Zelda." On a side note, how many people actually know what the Legend of Zelda actually is? I'll give you a clue. You find out in the booklet for Zelda:AoL (Adventure of Link). |
Muckraker Posts: 270 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | I've played the original Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess. Of those, I never finished Zelda 2. I'll be one of the first to say that nearly every Zelda game is the same. The plot changes only slightly, the items are usually the same, and you're still the same green suited guy rescuing the same princess. As repetitive as the games are, they're still a lot of fun. I'd say my favorite overall was Twilight Princess, but that may be because the Spinner is the greatest item they've added to the game since the Hookshot. The boss of the desert temple was one of my favorite boss fights in any game. |

In terms of plot execution, Twilight Princess felt very cinematic without using many cutscenes at all, which made it quite fantastic. As for fun, I actually thoroughly enjoyed Wind Waker, despite it being criminally short. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 369 Joined: 21 Nov 2007 | I guess the first Zelda game I "played" was Zelda II, but I was 2 at the time, and I dont remember much. I didn't even really play it, I just did the first 10 minutes of the game over and over, because that's the only part I could finish, because I had it memorized from watching my sisters. The first Zelda game I cognitively beat on my own was A Link to the Past. I still remember my entire family being stuck in the first dark world dungeon, because we didn't realize you could push a statue onto a switch to keep it down. Took us a week before my dad went out and grabbed a strategy guide. Though to be honest, up to that point no other inanimate object in the game could move independently, and there was no reason at all to think that that one would act any different (not even a subtle color swap), so I blame Nintendo. My favorite is Ocarina of Time. Ironically, I just downloaded an emulator two days ago, and have been playing through it for the 500th time before I logged on. The bottom of the well is still as spooky as ever. Majora's Mask was fun game, but I was too young at the time to fully appreciate the plot. Wind Waker surprised me. Being the typical 13-year old n00b I was back when it was first announced, I was all "OMFG the graphix sucXX0rz! Nintendo needz 2 die!!!!11". But when I finally grew up, I went out, and grabbed a copy from the bargain bin. If it wasn't for all the artificial length they added onto the game, especially that asinine 3-hour-minimum Triforce fetch quest, it could have dethroned OoT... I didn't really like Twilight Princess, for a number of reasons. They ruined Ganondorf by turning into another generic evil for evil's sake big bad (I liked the wiser, but still wicked evil, Wind Waker version). Zant, who was built up as this huge badass suffered extreme Villan Decay 3/4 of the way through the game. The dungeons felt like a chore. I guess it just felt like an 8 game, rather than the 9 and 10 caliber I got used to. |

I should know this. I vaguely remember sometime about the original Princess Zelda under a spell that made her sleep for a hundred years or something like that, and every princess of Hyrule was named after her. I could look it up on Wikipedia, but I need to test my memory. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 103 Joined: 9 Apr 2008 | twilight princess, simply because it had superior combat to other titles, I preferred the story (well, variations) to other Zelda titles, and link was significantly more bad ass If you where wondering I've also played ocarina of time, oracle of seasons, wind waker, and link to the past |

Close. Very close. What happened is that some time before the events of the original "Legend of Zelda" for the NES (Century or Centuries), a Dark Wizard was able to infiltrate the royal family, and convinced the Prince, who was the original Princess Zelda's brother, that she knew how to gain ultimate power. The Prince went into a rage when she wouldn't help him, and cast a spell on her to put her in a form of stasis. When he came to, he was horrified by what he had done, and struck the Wizard down (or banished him, can't remember). He placed Zelda in the Temple you always start at whenever you boot up the game, and made it a law that the first-born daughter of the Royal Family shall always be named Zelda. Also, the Zelda he cursed does not age. The Zelda you save in the first game is different from the Zelda in the second. The Zelda in the second game is the Zelda from many generations ago. And that is, roughly, the actual Legend of Zelda. Which is ironic, because the game in which you find out the true legend is the only game which does not bare the full title, instead just having the title of "Zelda." |

That's quite a presumption there. I wouldn't be so bold, had I started this thread, to think that the first Zelda game that people played would automatically be their favourite. For example, I've played all the Guitar Hero games, in sequence, but GH2 is my favourite because I think it has the best song list and the best multiplayer options. That said, my favourite Zelda game does happen to be the first one I played, which was A Link to the Past. |

Yes, get outside and play more games. I have to say the two Seasons and Ages games. The puzzles where actually somewhat difficult in those games. |

My feelings exactly, spent many hours on that game as a child. I also want to find out how the cel-shaded story arc pans out though (and I still haven't completed OoT due to, ironically, lack of time..) |

Is that the one with the Tuni Nut, a spade that could level half the town and a trading sequence wherein you acquired a stick? |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1085 Joined: 9 Dec 2007 | Heh, ironic coming from an OP who's name is actually one letter away from 'Zelda'. My first game was Link's Awakening, but my favourite has to be OoT. |
Paperboy Posts: 21 Joined: 11 May 2008 | I liked Phantom Hourglass solely for the multiplayer. That was a lot of fun. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 59 Joined: 5 Jan 2008 | My favorite was Ocarina of Time... I've played Majora's Mask and I can't do it. Twilight Princess was pretty fun, I liked it. I bought that Legend of Zelda Collector's disc for the Gamecube... about all of the Zelda titles are on it up to a 20-minute demo of Wind Waker. I recommend it. |

Beat Writer Posts: 149 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | Now, I was in an interesting position, having never been allowed to own a large console growing up, but the first game I ever played was Link's Awakening for the GameBoy. (Not the first Zelda game - the first Game). As you can probably tell by my avatar, I really love that game. If you haven't played it, Zeld, shame on you. Thanks to playing that game first (and frequently, because the second sword you get is the result of collecting 20 magical seashells, and then twin lightning bolts come down from the heavens and then fuse into a ball of lightning which morphs into your sword - fuckin' A), and then going on to play the original, and then the oracle games, and then Link to the Past, and then Minish Cap. I never owned an N64 or a Gamecube, but now that I'm in college and have access to a Wii, I've been playing Twilight Princess without having played Ocarina of Time, MM, or WW. I've played the first hour and a half of all three at other folk's houses. Anyway, I found TP to be a little samey, yeah, but I ignored that because being in Hyrule still feels fresh to me because I spent most of my childhood (and subsequent adolescence, and I have a file running right now) in Koholint Island. I also ignored the sameyness because the game is flat-out fun. You howl at the moon to summon the spirit of a dead swordsman, which is a golden wolf. For the first time since Link's Awakening (in which it was an Easter Egg), Nintendo acknowledged the presence of Bomb Arrows. I think I'm about halfway, or a little less than halfway, and I've noticed that in this game, Nintendo went out of its way to make everything as cool as possible. Put bombs on arrows. Magnetize the Iron Boots. TWO (so far) epic joust sequences on huge bridges, one of which is won by charging at the guy, shooting an arrow into his face, and then dodging his massive boar-horse. An ancient item that is a cross between a snowboard and a gyroscope. What don't I like? Well, the music sounds 10 years old - not the music itself, but the midi nature of it. It's not just midi, it's BAD midi. Do better. One thing that has bugged me about Zelda games - collection sequences. I like one or two, like TP has. It's Link's Awakening has an awesome collection sequence. Collect seashells, get Lightning Sword. Collect Pieces of Heart (as always), get Heart Container. So I guess my favorite, by your pidgeonholing standards, is Link's Awakening, but I also really liked Link to the Past (like a whole lot), primarily because you felt so bad-ass by storming through Ganon's Tower, seeing a whole bunch of difficult enemies, and then turning them all to ice and then smashing them with a hammer), the Oracle Games (Capcom did a few things right), and I"m loving Twilight Princess. The worst Zelda game ever? DEFINITELY Minish Cap. It had like 10 too many collection questions, one of which involved collecting some 200 trophies, and the reward is...a piece of heart. |

I'm not a Zeldafag, if you're wondering, and if you don't believe just read that;
But enough about that, let's get down to business.
All righty, now that THAT'S out of the way, I guess you'd want to tell me the first Zelda game you played, because obviously that's going to be the your favorite since it was your first taste of the neverending series.
