Press Junketeer Posts: 416 Joined: 8 Oct 2007 | ....This is a whole new game. Taking away his time powers kinda defeats the purpose of it being a Prince of Persia game. That was the whole concept. You can't just recreate a game after it has 3 games under it's belt...3 GOOD games. They shouldn't be trying to make it a prince of Persia game. They should have taken this new concept and made it into a whole new series of games. ^_^ |

The graphics look like what Crackdown was shooting for. A kind of sketch-world, cartoony in ways but detailed in it's fantasy. I don't like that they seem to take all the credit for it even though many other games have already done it. I understand that the graphics are more detailed than the last ones (the article said 13x more polygons) but that really isn't saying much in this day and age. I like that they are changing the story and hopefully some of the insta-gib button mash sequences. It seems pretty cool, but sounded a little repetitive - if you leave a zone and go back you have to fight some monsters both ways, and the more I play games like this, the more I realize that a macro could do just as well. |

You do realize that Prince of Persia was a platforming title for the PC back in the... 80s was it? They are actually kind of going back to those roots. |
Muckraker Posts: 335 Joined: 31 Mar 2008 | No time powers! Half the fun of POP is running off cliff and teleporting back up again. Also, if you screwed up once you didn't have to restart the whole level. That being said, maybe I'll wait and buy it used like the other 3. |

First link is a speed art of Elika. Second is the new Prince. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34326.html http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33651.html Also, the game is named "Prince of Persia: Heir Apparent." Or, at least, that's what it is now. I personally love the new look because it's branching out into more mystical, magical, mythological themes for the game, and I feel that it fits (from the little info known). |

Aw, good times. I did like his time powers in the three new ones though. If only because it gave the whole thing a reason. I don't remember the back story from the original, so I can't say if the lack of powers made it worse story-wise. It was a nice side-scrolling platformer though. |

Nope. Adding the time powers is a whole different game, they did run with it and make it a new series of games. So if you still insist on saying that they can't recreate a whole game after it's had a few good games under it's belt, well...you can. They sure as hell fooled you about it too. I shall sit here and wear my hat on contentment as hopefully another great game is delivered...sometime. |

They can't just keep making the same game with a new plot over and over again. They already tried that with parts 2 and 3. I never beat 2 but I thought 3 was a good return to form...but in either case they don't recreate the original. And I think Ubisoft deserves credit for accepting that they never will. I can always play the original anyways. In with the new, I say! The next Zelda should be an FPS! The next Metroid should be an RPG! Halo 4 should be an adventure game! |
Press Junketeer Posts: 446 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | It's looking pretty good. The use of the Assassin's Creed engine scares me a bit, but it sounds like PoP will be different enough. I'm going to miss being able to rewind after I fall into a pit, that gameplay mechanic worked well in the Sands of Time trilogy, but it's nice that the developer is moving on. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3313 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | This looks very interesting... but, there's a lot of ways they could muck up. I mean, so far, it seems fine. I'll look at how this turns out. |
Paperboy Posts: 26 Joined: 24 May 2008 | Looks awesome, I personally didnt like the powers that much. sure they helped when you dropped into "Jagged Rock Junction" the rewind saved me so many times. the rest of it was usless. PoP TW ruled and i hope they explore the Evil Chain prince again cuz he wasn't a whiny little boy/prince. |
Beat Writer Posts: 187 Joined: 8 May 2008 | wel I hope they fixed the combat problem from SoT. it sucked, plain and simple pointless repetitive button mashing. I remember the old platformer, my god that was hard. although I was seven, so that explains it. anyway, I hope heir apparent contines to be good, and hopefully it won't suck massive things. |

As mentioned earlier, the roots of Prince of Persia far pre-date The Sands of Time. The purpose of a Prince of Persia game is to be an action platformer in an elaborate maze of level design. The series, starting from Sands of Time, was a whole new game from the original Prince of Persia in just about every way, going from 2D to 3D, and adding the new time element. The new game has every right to call itself Prince of Persia as the "Time Trilogy" does. |

But... Didn't you even read the original Prince of Persia from the 1001 Arabian Nights? P.S. Prince of Persia has like, eighty games XD |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1478 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | I really don't like the art style...sigh I hope the game play itself turns out well though. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2901 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | I'm not sure if the cell shaded graphics fit the style of PoP. Cell shaded make everything look like a cartoon and by doing this you remove part of the atmosphere and the mood the game creates. It was the same thing with the Wind waker. The legend of Zelda series is set in a Fantasy world that often ends up being covered in Darkness. All the Zelda titles had been able to shows this Darkness graphically and by doing so created the mood that the game wanted to create. The Wind waker on the other hand dried to look dark and Gothic in some parts but because of the cell shaded graphics and how they make a game look like a cartoon it failed in doing this. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 102 Joined: 14 Apr 2008 | I don't know, the art direction looks phenomenal to me. It's not just cel-shaded, it looks a lot different than that. The look of the game is the whole reason I want to play it. It reminds me of Out of This World/Another World for some reason. Just the mix of cartoon and realism. And the design of the new Prince rocks. He has blue eyes (So, he actually looks Persian) and he looks a little gruffer and little more homely than most heroes in video games. And that rocks. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 675 Joined: 2 Mar 2008 | And here is an interview vid with Ben Mattes and a Movie-Trailer like trailer for the game, complete with announcer guy. And for once, it's not Gametrailers (Le gasp.) http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/890664/prince-of-persia/videos/pop_interview_052708.html http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34501.html Edit: Second video is GT now. |
Muckraker Posts: 284 Joined: 12 Dec 2007 | I feel a bit disgraced with the people who are nagging about Prince of Persia not being Prince of Persia due to lack of time abilities. But whatever. Trailer looks good, but I always throw a grain of salt with trailers since they are not actually gameplay (Unless clearly shown to be so). One thing that did annoy me with the trailer: The whole "Dark vs Light and now Light must restore the balance". For once I would so much love the concept to be the other way around. Too much good/light on the land so we have to play as darkness to restore it. At least it'd give you some perspective as to if Dark/Light actually mean Evil/Good. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 675 Joined: 2 Mar 2008 | Alright. Here's another interview with Ben Mattes, part 1 of a 2 part interview (only one out as of now). GT, as usual. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34581.html?type= Edit: Here's part 2. |

Beat Writer Posts: 131 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | Does anyone think the dual summersault thing looked so weird in cgi? I like the art style in this new game. I hope they deliver on this advance AI system. Finally for once I want an AI that won't retardedly get in my way. I'm kind of worried about this whole soul calibur battle thing. Does this mean close 1 on 1 combat all the time and I have to take mins on taking out 1 enemy? I hope they keep the quick kill system from Two Thrones. I love it when I sneak up behind the enemy and just instantly own them. |

Yeah I would say that PoP is going back to it's roots. The whole time powers thing came along when they remade the series into 3D. I think they have a remake of the original for download on XBLA, you guys should try it out (but I would suggest emulating the originals, including PoP 2). |

No...because I never knew ff14 was coming out. Unless you're talking about the magic which is totally out of place in the prince of persia series. |

Wow, now you decide, what a PoP game is? Have you even play Prince of Persia, Prince of Persia 2 und Prince of Persia 3D. Talking of success it is indeed not too clever to bring up 3D, but the other ones were great. What I like about this new game is that there were some hints at finally open environments. I would like to see more of that. Prince of Persia to me is fluidism, Arabian art style, epic oriental storyline. I would not see why this game would be any different. Time tricks or not. Doesn't matter. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 542 Joined: 4 Oct 2007 | Why does everyone hate the PoP combat? I admit SoT was a bit stale, but it's definitely gotten better since then. I liked the "speed/stealth" kills in Two Thrones, and Assassin's Creed, if it counts, had a pretty intricate system, though we all hate the enemies' "step-attacks". |

This new Prince of Persia game that they show on IGN looks fantastic. I really like the new art direction and a lot of the styling seems to be harkening back to the original PoP. Looks like it has a lot of promise.
