CoD5 will be console only and Infinity Ward will not be making this (they will be making CoD6 tho). This will leave many people disappointed, just like CoD3.
LordCraigus: One thing that hinders WWII games so much is the lack of variety in settings and scenarios, not to mention realism. There's so much that could be done but developers prefer to stay in the safe zone of the American invasion of Normandy and onwards. Sure we've seen Soviet scenarios a couple of times but to have a game that actually focuses it's entire story on the Eastern Front would be heaven for me, assuming it was any good.
This all goes for FPS games, I know of a fair few great RTSs that put focus on the less-explored Fronts of the war as well as letting you play campaigns as the Axis.
I agree that playing on the Eastern Front would be awesome, if it was handled well. The fact it hasn't happened so far is the parochial attitude of Western developers and the gamers who think the U.S. won the war single-handed, never mind the 26+ million Russians that died. In fact, I'd like to see a move away from WW2 shooters, and from those set in a dystopic future, and look at new subjects.
Well Alphavillain the first two CoD games did have Soviet missions, however they weren't exactly perfect or realistic, it is CoD after all. The only FPS I can think that's entirely set on the Eastern Front is Red Orchestra, but that's a multiplayer only game.
But when you think, the Eastern Front saw the biggest and most costly battles of the entire war, no ifs or buts about that. You'd think game developers would love to cash in on these horrific events (like they do with most others), but the fact it's Russia means it's a bit outside of the safezone most developers or publishers have dug themselves into.

No, actually, it's gonna be on the PC too. Did Treyarch not get the job, as the Activision CEO didn't confirm? Maybe.
It's not the fact it's Russia, so much the fact that it's Soviet Union that developers will not make realistic Russian battles in WWII. Kinda like "Look at this great empire that we destroyed" deal.
Sounds alright to me I guess, I hope you don;t have to constantly play as an American though. I'd like to actually play both sides of the conflict, and maybe as an aussie soldier aswell.

I don't really think "great empire that we destroyed" is an accurate phrase to use but I know what you're saying. However, it's also the fact that most casual gamers from the US would rather play as an American, so making it about the American's involvement in WWII sells better.
I think CoD should stick with modern fictional wars, that way I can play it without thinking 'ugh, that's not historically accurate' or 'that's unrealistic' and enjoy it a bit more.

Im surprised about it being on PC if its the case, my source> Click!
I found an article over at Gamespot that states the CoD5 will have a "Major Chapter" in which it portrays the invasion of Germany by Russia. Looks like we will be playing as Russians.

Calling it now: I want COD5 to focus on the Pacific Campaign of WWII, possibly including the battles of Guadalcanal, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and the Phillipines. There are so few WWII games based around the Pacific, yet none of them - save MOH: Pacific Assault, which I haven't played but heard good things about - really do the campaign any justice. It's a crime and should be paid with capital punishment, and until it happens I will continue to wait patiently.

Mojozing: I read that the graphics on the PS3 version will be far behind that of the 360 and PC versions.
Put on your flame suit boys.
Bear in mind that was an unbiased comment coming from a PS3 owner.
Link? Only 1 "m" in coming.
Not 100% reliable but its what someone posted on another forum after reading Play Magazine
some guy:
reading the preview in new play mag, im kinda doubting this game now, the mag says at the moment the graphics on the ps3 version are behind the pc and 360 version. last parag in mag reads "our main concern with the enviroments, however is that they wont look as up to scratch as their pc and xbox360 counterparts-actually,this is a concern that applies to every graphical aspect of the game. the ps3 version of world at war, unfortunately, looks like its behind every other iteration,in terms of graphical detail.'
another bit about a on the rails level stated "an on the rails section, which we initially thought would be promising, tunrned out to be the most cliched and humdrum add-on that could possibly have been concieved.taking place on a pby catalina, one of the usa best multi-purpose aircraft in wwII, this week level basically boiled down to shooting explosive barrels, on the decks of many battleships, although its possible to switch between areas of the plane, for better accuracy, this sort of diversion is the exact type of pitfall that treyarch should be avoiding"
I wish I'll finally see a WW2 game in which the Americans realise that the war didn't start with Pearl Harbour. So far 95% of American WW2 Media(Games,Movies etc.) fail to acknowledge that there's been a war(three years precisely) before "THE" United States decided to join and "kick Nazi's asses".
Honestly, patriotism crap aside, why does everybody only focus on the 1944-1945? Yes,that's the time when we finally overcame the Nazi's and Americans took most of the credit(j/k) but for the love of god, it seems like nothing ever happened in 1937-1943(Yes, 1937 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Sino-Japanese_War)

Blu3Forever: Since Treyarch are developing this, I see little to encourage me into buying this tbh.
Treyarch consists of former Grey Matter. The guys that made Return to Castle Wolfenstein.THAT Wolfenstein. The one with Zombies and Nazis!
I've got a feeling that after reading this, CoD5 will now be played by every single person on these forums.Just for the sake of Zombies. After all think about all the shit Japanese did to their prisoners...

i wouldn't mind WW2 games if they didnt omit other allies contribution, (I guess im really just talking about the Medal of Honour series) but i guess this extends to the wider culture of WW2 in the media. Kids are gonna start thinking it was the U.S. vs the rest of the world soon! Rule Brittania and her empires :P peace :)
Neeko Masochist: Please, I wish these developers would just let the COD and all bloody WW games alone. It's over, finished, kaput. I'm so sick and tired of seeing all these stupid World War games coming out. Why do the Americans have to keep chugging out game after game after game depicting the World War when half the world just wants to forget about it and MOVE ON.
There are hundreds of games out ther you could be playing, go find a games shop and dig through the Bargain Bin (As it's called over here) I've found some great games which don't involve a World War. Zone of Enders, The Seed: Warzone, Drakengard and Chaos Legion all for PS2. They are GOOD games if you can get off your arse for 5 minutes to pull the stupid COD disks from your XBox, Playstation and what other console you have them on and snap them all in half only to be used as shurikens to kill anyone who ever tried to buy another COD game again. Or better yet, stick on some black attire and go show the developers of COD your point.
Oh, I have a better idea. Join the army and then run through a mine field, then I hope you'll understand that war isn't meant to be a game. Not especially wars which actually happened. You want to play a war game, play Age of Empires, Rome: Total War or play one of the game from the X-Universe (X2: The Threat, X3 Reunion.) Better yet, why don't you play Civilisation 3 or 4. Play Dungeon Keeper 2 if you want something fun, dark and challenging. Play Earth 2150 or it's counterparts if you want to have a serious challenge on your hands, go up against 13 Expert UCS computer AI's then you have your challenge. I have a better Idea, why don;t you go bloody play Homeworld or Homeworld 2, the BEST EVER Space Real-time strategy games.
well they said "World war" they didn't say one or two

well they said "World war" they didn't say one or two
Hmm...
Maybe both. Eastern front in WWI, Pacific in WWII.
Hate America, blah, blah. Bandwagons are so tiresome. It's reached the point where you can't even talk about video games in a post about video games. If you made the same points in a reasonable way, you know, like a regular person, I'd probably agree with some of you.
I have high hopes for this game, despite Treyarch. I really didn't think CoD 3 multiplayer was that bad (work on the campaign portion, fellas)...
well they said "World war" they didn't say one or two
Well, Japanese enemies in jungle environments with, hell, FLAMETHROWERS AS WEAPONS, completely rings "Hmm... Could be WWI or WWII." Because Japan totally fought in the jungle against us in WWI. Get your head out of your ass, boy.
I want this on DS, Wii (Treyarch claims to be trying to get the graphics to look like 360 and PS3), 360, and the PC, in this order: PC, DS, Wii, 360.
I'm excited to see the whole new AI. Could be interesting in other games. Maybe Combine soldiers in Episode 3 that can swim? [/sarcasm, although I really wanna see that AI]
They got the CoD4 engine up and running on the Wii. That, in itself, is amazing. The next step would be seeing if Source works on the Wii, Unreal engine 2, ect. This could be a LOT better than we think.
i dout that the Wii controls will be harder than Computer
