Press Junketeer Posts: 417 Joined: 20 Feb 2008 | Yes, I have my Playstation, nes, n64, snes, gamecube and wii all connected and I still go back to play those games. Just because it is new doesnt mean it is good especially with all the commotion about high definition TV. People enjoyed their Xbox games before HD and people can enjoy games today without them |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 946 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | You bet. I have draws dedicated to my Dreamcast, Saturn, Megadrive, SNES, N64 and PS1. Out of all of them the PS1 would get the least played, but there are still times when I feel like playing a bit of w1peout. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3870 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | On occasion I drag out the NES or SNES. The 64 less often but once and a while. The PSX, never, since the PS2 can play all my old games. |
Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 22 May 2008 | Ahh the Emulator. Sure, but not actually on my old consoles. Emulators and ROMS allow me to relive my old age. Also, I do not condone illegal use of ROMS and such |
Copy Clerk Posts: 78 Joined: 15 May 2008 | I play Tony Hawk's proskater2 on the PS1 and legend of zelda the ocarina of time on the N64 |
Press Junketeer Posts: 385 Joined: 8 Jun 2008 | I still have my ps2, because playing ps2 games sucks on the ps3. I also buy old games on the Wii virtual console and Xbox Live Arcade. I gots emulators and roms on the pc, too. :-D |
Paperboy Posts: 34 Joined: 2 Oct 2007 | I play games based on how much fun they are, not based on what system they're on. With that said, I still think the Genesis has the greatest game library of any system. So yes, I still play on older consoles and will continue to do so until newer consoles start putting out more fun games... like Ristar. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 703 Joined: 19 May 2008 | I still play snes and NES on a regular basis. It helps me stay in touch with how great games can be despite how simple they are compared to what we have today. Back in an era where the emphasis seemed to be MORE on fun and game play and not uber leet graphics and obsessive online. Games are still great today as they were 10 years ago but like they say, "nothing beats the classics". |
Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | I still play my old gamecube, and playstation games occasionally, but have stopped playing some of my older consoles since i got an xbox 360. however, when they released backwards compadibility on the xbox 360, i started playing games such as time spliters, halo 2, battlefront, and fable again. |
Beat Writer Posts: 134 Joined: 8 May 2008 | I'm on my PS2--the oldest working console I have, apart from my computer. And to tell you the truth, I still have more than just a couple of RPGs left on it, so I'm expecting to stay on my PS2 for at least another 3-400 hours. That reads 3 actual years for me--whoopy! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1311 Joined: 5 May 2008 | If I find an N64 usually I throw on Mario for a while, or if my dad finds our old Super Nintendo, I'll play that for a while. Otherwise I have a PS2 and that's about all I play. |
Beat Writer Posts: 167 Joined: 30 Mar 2008 | I used to go back to my N664 once in a while but it takes 30 attempts to get the game to run now so I don't really bother. I do sometimes use dos box to play old school games like Doom. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 120 Joined: 2 Apr 2008 | Sure, and old games aswell. I even have my Spectrum ZX hooked up to one of those wood-trimmed 80's TV's. Who doesn't like Manic Miner heh? |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 506 Joined: 18 May 2008 | I always play Mario bros on the NES. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3240 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Of course - hell, I even know some sites where I can play the classics, and a lot of games still work on my computer, like Starcraft and Diablo, and there are things like emulators to help me out if my old games or systems aren't working. I'm still shocked at how well my SNES runs too. My N64 is missing cables, but thanks to Wii's virtual console, I can play the games I don't own, and missed out on, or the ones that I just loved and yet can't find around the house...or broke.. >_> |
News Room Contributor Posts: 2130 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | I often play old SNES games, but always on emulation. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1629 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 | Nope, my PS1 is a rather cool paperweight though. |
Paperboy Posts: 36 Joined: 25 May 2008 | Seeing as I'm sort of a miserly fellow, I don't find myself in possession of new games very often. So yes, I frequently play stuff on my SNES and N64 emulators, sometimes I even hook up the real things for that old timey experience. Recently I got my hands on a NES and a copy of Adventure Island 2. It is very very awesome. Ooh, I also still have my old Gameboy. Still works - and nothing beats sitting down with that colossal monster and running through Super Mario Land. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 675 Joined: 2 Mar 2008 | All my old consoles are still hooked up (NES, SNES, etc), excluding the PS1 because the PS2 has backwards compatability, and the Sega Genesis because all the games I want to play are on collection disks. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 7773 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 | People still like classic games, thats why Virtual Console games sell so well. |
Muckraker Posts: 291 Joined: 1 Nov 2007 | Yes, my friends and I still get together to play NFL Blitz 2002 on n64...any blitz game after that is garbage. Things get quite intense...I think it's the most competitive game anyone can ever play. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 837 Joined: 11 May 2008 | This is the very reason why Nintendo started the virtual console I'm sure. Everyone loves a classic. As for me, I have been known to hop back to my GCN from time to time. I'll play ToS until i get sick of the dialogue. |
Beat Writer Posts: 160 Joined: 2 Jun 2008 | still buy NES carts when i find a good one, and i still give alll my time to my dreamcast, though i recently got a wii, so the cast' has gone wanting. i hear it, even now, weeping in the next room softly. |

Beat Writer Posts: 191 Joined: 1 Jun 2008 | Currently I don't have any older systems hooked up, but I'll occasionally pull out the sega master system, snes, or nes and play the older games when I feel like it - which is a rare occasion. Recently I revived one of my old junk computers and installed Windows 98 on it. I plan to use it to play my older unplayable computer games (like 'Day of the Tentacle' and 'Return to Zork') I think it's silly that someone would plug in their Gamecube next to their Wii. Why not play the Gamecube games on the Wii? It saves room. Oh, and Pong. I'll occasionally hook Pong up and play it with friends. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4095 Joined: 14 Jan 2008 | If I have alot of people round then we might break out the ol' SNES or N64 for a few games of our favorite classics; but on my I only play on my xbox or what i can on my PC. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 77 Joined: 24 May 2008 | sadly, i don't :( my xbox is just gathering dust in my room (well... at least it's got a lot to gather ^^) |
Copy Clerk Posts: 59 Joined: 5 Jun 2008 | Game Boy Pocket, the black and white one, with mario, erm not sure which mario it is, its very hard though, you die you have to start the whole game again. Then again this doesnt narrow it down, this method of deaths and respawnin is typical of 90% of all mario games. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1921 Joined: 18 Sep 2007 | I set aside my old Xbox just in case, but I haven't touched it once since the 360 came in; most of my old collection was covered by back-compatibility. The Xbox is my oldest console, as until 2004 I just played PC games. -- Steve |
Beat Writer Posts: 186 Joined: 11 Jan 2008 | Hell yes. Any time a console lacks backwards compatibility, there will inevitably be a few gems left behind by the new wave that cannot be surpassed or even duplicated save through emulation. Still got a large library of SNES and N64 classics that I will break out on occasion. In fact I played through Star Fox 64 just the other day- still can't quite top some of my old scores in Expert Mode. MacBeth is still a wonderful piece of level design. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 574 Joined: 26 May 2008 | I own a PS2 and a Wii (and a couple of handhelds but that's irrelevant). But since I'm not gonna buy a 360, I still play some old games, such as Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. I don't care how old a game is, and I don't care much about graphics (key word 'much, if the game's all pixelated I'm annoyed, but I don't really care how many polygons the damn thing has as long as I can identify enemy from friend and tell at all times that I'm shooting straight). If it's good, it's good, you can always revisit it. |

I was rummaging through my closet the other day and stumbled across my SNES, Sega Saturn, and N64. It was enough to make me hook up my N64 and get some StarFox 64 and Goldeneye action. I even relived Super Mario World on the SNES.
In this era of high definition, does anyone else still enjoy their older games?
