Muckraker Posts: 333 Joined: 25 Nov 2007 | Immersion is when you finish a six-day start-to-finish Thief: The Dark Project bender, play Half-Life and are driven to distraction by the sound of the HEV suit's boots. *clomp* *clomp* *clomp-SQUEAK* It's also when you find yourself locating the nearest likely exits and dark areas while walking down a hallway, and unconsciously taking nearly silent steps as you move. I still scare people by unintentionally sneaking up to them. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2099 Joined: 14 Sep 2007 | Immersion is when you play Runescape and, while walking home, catch yourself wondering why you aren't just using the Home Teleport spell instead. On two separate occasions. Not the best entry, but an entry nonetheless. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4066 Joined: 24 Apr 2008 | Immersion is roaring in victory after beating down an army of Daedra which you thought for sure you would die to. (oblivion does have its moments, lvl 20 doing 'Battle of Kvatch' is crazy, 3 Frost Atronachs, 5 Spider Daedra! 3 XIVILIA! BWAAAAAHHHH!!!! ORC SMASH!) Immersion is whispering when your doing a stealth section. Immersion is hissing at the enemies on your screen, despite the fact they cannot hear you. |

Yep, done that before... Or trying to boost shields right before a collision... Or trying to switch to missiles to clear out traffic ahead of me (Ace Combat 5 for that one...) |

in all seriousness though, i agree that Tie Fighter was insanely immersive. they balanced the right amount of monotonous (patrols and border checkpoints) missions against exciting attack missions. each patrol mission making you feel the taste of an Empire Pilot's daily grind without getting boring itself. i remember constantly being aware of the inherent frailty of my tie fighter and actually getting excited when my convoy was attacked because it was actually unexpected since nothing really happened on the last convoy mission. it was like an RPG Space Shooter. |
Muckraker Posts: 328 Joined: 4 Jan 2008 | I have very seldom become very immersed in a J-RPG, that is until the other day when I found a used copy of Golden Sun for the GBA. Several of my friends have urged me to play the game, but I always dismissed it because I find it very difficult to get into them. I even found a copy of the Phantasy Star Collection, having had fond memories of Phantasy Star II from my childhood, and alas, I should have allowed those fond memories to fluorish in the back of my mind as a nostalgic footnote. But when I saw that Golden Sun was only $5 used, I figured that even if it did suck, at least I'd only be out by $5. So, here we break it down: Typical J-RPG experience for me: "Fuck! All you do in this game is fucking GRIND!" Golden Sun: "Ooh! I'm gonna go and grind some more!" *has character running around in circles, begging for a random encounter* Now that's an immersive J-RPG! |

Immersion is after playing animal crossing for many hours walking around your own town asking your friends if you can help them with stuff for money or wall paper.
Or when you get to second base with a girl you say in a deep voice Level Up!
Another story is when I was playing persona 3 for to long I decided what arcana my friends are and only talked to the friends which arcana I wished to improve. They both ended with me getting slapped in the face.
